To be tolerant of other religions is to allow others to believe and practice their religion even if it is different than your own. Religious tolerance teaches philosophy such as Coexist ( which is simply living in peace with people who believe differently)as well as live and let live. You don't have to agree with a religion in order to be tolerate. Nor does it mean you can't share your faith. It is good to share your faith but also be willing to listen to others share their faith.

How can t be good to allow a Muslim, Hindu or Buddhist share there faith with me? Can I ask you to show me verses which state we should be tolerant of what we know to be false religions that lead people astray? Not being mouthy, seriously asking why these things should be allowed or tolerated under the banner of tolerance........And for the record...I absolutely hate the saying Coexist which places many false religions on equal footing with biblical Christianity

" Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Luke 6:31

" Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to be angry" James 1:19

If you are talking to a Muslim or Buddhist and they want to tell you want about their faith, listening would be the respectful thing to do. Then you could tell them about the gospel. If you are unwilling to listen when someone wants to tell you about their faith, chances are the person may refuse to hear about your faith as well.

You don't have to wait for them to share their faith first but if you want to share your faith with someone of a different religion, it is only respectful to listen to what they have to say as well. Sharing your faith and then refusing to listen to the other person share their faith( if they wanted to) is in my opinion very rude.

I've been dealing with this issue for a while now. Several family and friends on FB have pointed this out to me. So I'd like some Biblical opinions,Scripture verses would be a big help on the subject of tolerance of other religions and beliefs. I don't think people understand what is meant by tolerance and a key word the follows is "acceptance". I think Christians are being deceived on this issue. So I'd appreciate if anyone could enlighten me to where the Bible says tolerate or accept other religious views and beliefs. Thank you.
For me, it comes to standing in His truth, which includes compassion, tenderness, considering others more important. Now, that doesn't mean we accept the perceptions of everyone, heavens sakes no. However, we can stand in His truth, holding on to the peace that He has given and know when to walk away. He came to divide the believer from the unbeliever so we must remember that, but before we walk away and as we walk away may we all shine His light with His Glory, His truth and His Love in mind. When we admonish, it should be to edify not to harm, after all our goal should be to appeal for the cause of God, not of ourselves.

Jesus did say to " go into all the world and preach the gospel" so it obviously does not mean we have to sit back and wait for someone to bring up faith. It means the complete opposite, which is actively sharing the gospel. If while sharing the gospel you run into people of different faith who also want to tell you about what they believe, I believe it would be a better witness to them when we are willing to listen to them as well as share Jesus.

This. AND remember: NOT ALL RELIGIONS are the same.

Meaning: You may be able to co-exist with buddhists. But good luck co-existing with a certain middle-eastern religion that is not only a religion, but a political entity that teaches they will take over the world! The thorn on the side of humanity!

That just shows you do not understand the word.........comes from two Greek words and means OPINIONATED/SCHISMATIC......if anything it SUPPORTS my position......
so its a translation error? hypocrites does not mean hypocrites, it means something else.?
hypocrite means someone that does not practice what they preach right?

Matthew 23:3
so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice.

A group of people who seek to hurt others and take over the world, have an extremist position. Not everyone of a particular religion has an extremist position.

poor argument, here is why:
The many who dont seek to take over are the ones disobedient to said religion and its scriptures.

That may be true but even so, just because someone says they are followers of a certain religion, that does not mean they are a enemy.

i guess its possible but then your left with Jesus saying they dont practice what they preach. if what they were preaching was evil there would be no need to practice it in the first place.
these pharisees are little fifferent than a mega church money preacher today. they say nice things in front of the crowd but behind closed doors they live lives of slimeballs. and thats how you tell they are bad teachers, look to their actions, not their words.

I take it your are referring to Muslims. While it may be true that not all Muslims are extremists, the fact remains that the Koran and Islam do teach Jihad (holy war) against the infidels, and the extremists are the ones who are interpreting the Koran as it was meant to be. There are 164 verses in the Koran about Jihad, and the reward is Paradise.

[Sura 2.190] ...fight in the way of Allah with those who fight with you...
[Sura 2.191] And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight with you in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers [infidels].
[Sura 8.012.] Your Lord inspired the angels: “I am with you, so support those who believe. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. So strike above the necks, and strike off every fingertip of theirs.”
[Sura 8.013.] That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. Whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger—Allah is severe in retribution.

Islam claims to be the religion that supersedes Judaism and Christianity, and Muslims established a Caliphate in Europe about 500 years ago. They tried to convert Christians to Islam by the sword, or killed them. Today, ISIS and Turkey are trying to establish a worldwide Caliphate which will include all the atrocities we have heard and read about.

when it comes to killing the Muslims are not even in the same league as the western nations that are Christians. the US military alone is 100X bigger than all the Muslim armies combined.
and 500 years back when the Christian kingdoms were banishing and killing all the Jews it was the Muslim kingdoms that gave them sanctuary and the freedom to practice Judaism in Muslim lands.

Jesus spoke about the good Samaritan to show that people of a different belief (jews despised samaritans) also had compassion on their neighbours.

He went out of his way to help a stranger. Also Jesus did speak to samaritans and did not turn them away like the jews did. When he met the woman at the well He struck up a conversation with her, asking her for water, she was a bit taken aback that he would ask her, and then Jesus invited her to have living water...i.e her religion couldnt sustain her....unlike Jesus way which lead to eternal life. Then he told her God is looking for those that worship Him in spirit and in truth.

So its not that those of other religions are bad because they are seeking God but not worshipping Him correctly...its just they dont know the truth and are unaware of the Spirit.

Out of curiosity, where did you get the quotes of the Qur'an from? I have heard about how Islam teaches killing unbelievers but am not well versed at all with their holy book. I just don't like people to assume the worst in others just because they say their Muslim or look like one. At times people have judged Muslims just by appearances and because of this, people have been treated poorly who did not deserve it. I believe that despite our differences with people of whatever faith or custom or culture or anything else that may be different between persons, we are connected in the sense that we are all human beings, made by one Creator and all coming from a common ancestor in the book of Genesis. While I do believe in a general sense the importance of allowing others the right to practice their religion, I also am for terrorist groups like Isis to be stopped and brought to justice.

Directly from the Quran. There are online sources for English translations.

As to people practicing their religions freely, that is a given. But Radical Islamists put the West (particularly the Great Satan America) on notice a long time ago that they would destroy it and kill infidels. That should have been a wake up call. Instead there was not a single Western politician who took that threat seriously.

And now we are seeing the results throughout the Western World. Click on Jihad Watch https://www.jihadwatch.org and get acquainted with Radical Islam. Here's one article:
Ohio: Muslim plotted jihad massacre at synagogue, said authorities in Northwest Ohio “wouldn’t even expect it”

I think the word "tolerance" is misused nowadays. Many think it is intolerant for someone to disagree with them.

If a person thinks he can fly, am I intolerant for preventing him from jumping out a window? I think in the same way, if someone is being deceived by false teaching, it is not intolerant to call the teaching that is deceiving him or her out for what it is, in order to save the person from destruction.
