I think when one begins to fall back into sinful habits they begin a steady slope into a sinful life style and it can be easy enough to fall into if one is not careful

What reactivates the sin nature in the life of the Christian?
I would say that a Christian acts against his/her new nature whenever they choose to sin. That said however, I think our old nature or "old self" is always waiting in the wings (so to speak), always ready to rear its ugly head in our lives again :(

As Christians, we are told that we need to be continually "renewing our minds" ..
Romans 12:2; Ephesians 4:23, as well choosing to lay aside our "old self" while putting on our "new self" .. cf Romans 6:1-7; Colossians 3:1-11

Ephesians 4
22 In reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit,
23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
24 and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

There will finally be an end to this, PTL, but on this side of the grave, it seems to me that the battle against our old self/old nature will need to be continuously waged.

~Deut

James 1
14 Each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.
15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.

It happened to my brother who was going to Church before me, even though I am older than him.

He was strict about it too, and did a good job acting Christlike, attending a Church that upheld the holiness of Jesus, and it was a good Church with hypocrisy way down for I hung around them for I went to that Church, and they really loved acting like Jesus, and abstaining from the ways of the world.

But my brother let sin come in to his life to enjoy it, and one thing led to another with him enjoying more sin, and eventually left that Church, got married, and attended a Church with relaxed ways about them, which his wife's mom was a lesbian, so that Church probably saw nothing wrong with it.

He even got in to swinging with his wife, which I did not know about until my dad told me, but my brother would not tell me for he did not want me to be ashamed of him, for he always looked up to me, and really liked me.

But he ended up getting divorced, and living with my sister who goes to Church, so maybe he will get back to where he used to be if he is fed up with the world.

But how is the sin nature reactivated, if one starts to enjoy sin, for then it can led to other areas of sin.

But the sin nature does not go away, although we do not have to go by it, for Paul said in the flesh dwells no good thing, which he said when he does good, evil is present with him.

So the sin nature is always activated in the flesh, but we can go by the Spirit, and not the flesh, and with the mind serve Christ, and not let sin in action be activated.

For we are tempted, and if we are tempted then the sin nature is activated, but we do not have to make it an action.

Psalm 1
1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers
.

p.s. - see too .. Deuteronomy 11:18-21

How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word.
Thy word I have treasured in my heart, that I may not sin against Thee.

James 1:

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin

Please note, it is not a sin to be tempted. Hebrews 4:15 tells us our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

The sin occurs when we succumb to the lust of our flesh.

When we sin, we are drawn away from the Lord Jesus Christ. As we abide in the Lord Jesus Christ, He is our safe haven.

Romans 13:14 tells us But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

This is the only way I know of to "make not provision for the flesh" (which is where those lusts rise up to draw us away from the Lord Jesus Christ).

What reactivates the sin nature in the life of the Christian?
I have a grandson, his name is Tyler. We got on really well;, but when he was two we had some problems. When he came to my home, I put him under my laws if you like. I asked him not to go into my computer room and touch my telephone, computer or television. Quite reasonable requests I thought bearing in mind I didn’t want him to give me an exorbitant phone bill or break expensive equipment. But what was the result of me giving him these simple rules/putting him under my laws as it were? It activated a desire in him to break them. If he had never been given those rules, he would inevitably at times of touched the things I asked him not to touch, but the allure to do so would have been nowhere near as great.

Before you come a Christian you have a sin nature that commits sin. For you break the laws of God, and the bible tells us breaking those laws are sin. But if you become a Christian and then hinge your Christianity on obeying those laws, rather than on what Christ did for you at calvary(for it has to be one or the other) the sin nature in you will be activated to a very high degree to break what you do not want to do. Before you become a Christian you commit sin, but the sin you commit once you become a Christian is in opposition to how you know you should live your life as a believer.

Some go to churches that preach a very high degree of holiness, and this is paramount in the Christianity of people who go to these churches. You may say that is a good thing, but it isn’t if that is the most important thing in your faith. It neglects what Christ did for you at Calvary. Your christianity hinges, in effect on obeying the law. And many who go to such churches end up living lives far from where they once so eagerly sought to live. Lives immersed in what we would call the gravest of sin.

Grace is a hard thing to understand and accept:

For sin shall no longer be your master for you are not under law but under grace. Romans 6:14

How can it be reactivated? If one falls back into a sinful lifestyle from being a church attendant, I would question whether that one was born again.

A Christian has repented of sin, been circumcised of the flesh nature and is never comfortable in former actions.

And when is sin ever pleasurable? It robs one of peace, is always under a burden of guilt. Destroys lives.

There's that cry with Paul....oh wretched man/woman I am. Then thanking God that Jesus delivers us!

When the Believer doesn't understand how the "Law of the Spirit (Holy Spirit) of Life in Christ Jesus operates (Romans 8:2)," they enter back into the "Law of sin and death."

Failing the Lord, in other words sinning, does not reactivate the sin nature. What reactivates the sin nature in the life of the Christian is misplaced faith. You are proclaiming Jesus, but ignoring the Cross (half measures won't do - lukewarm). This is called "spiritual adultery." Christ is become of no effect unto you, because you are you are frustrating grace. All born again Christians place their Faith in Jesus Christ and the Cross of Calvary for Salvation. But few Christians place and maintain their Faith exclusively in Christ and the Cross of Calvary for Sanctification. In other words, their Faith may be in Christ, but not the Cross, i.e., "The Finished Work," i.e., "The Blood of Jesus." The Apostle Paul calls this "another Jesus" (2 Cor. 11:4). The result will be the works of the flesh and spiritual death (the sin nature comes alive) Gal. 5:19-21.

Christ must never be separated from the Work of the Cross; to do so is to produce "another Jesus" (2 Cor. 11:4). The Cross of Christ is as necessary for Sanctification as it is for Salvation (1 Cor. 1:18).

“If the Believer doesn’t understand the Cross of Christ as it refers to Sanctification, in other words, how we live for the Lord on a daily basis, the only other alternative is “spiritual adultery.” And, to be sure, even as physical adultery destroys a marriage, likewise, “spiritual adultery” will destroy the marriage of the Believer with the Lord. It cannot be otherwise!”

You have to be careful how you phrase this, otherwise, people could interpret you as saying, you are saved by believing in the cross, but you are sanctified by "how you live for the Lord on a daily basis" after you are saved.

Unless of course, that is what you really meant :)

It is never deactivated. Not in this life. If it could be, one would never sin.
Hi Budman

How I understand "I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live" is that the sin nature is put to death by an action of God when we turn to Him for salvation. That doesn't mean that we can't do an act of sin. Some habits take time to overcome.

Am not sure I agree with this MOTC. Doesn't scripture say that the Spirit is our sanctification? Of course all is based on the blood of Jesus's Cross. Is that what you mean?

Am on the iPad and I don't know how to delete my comment in the middle of your post, and put it where it should be. Sorry. Hope it's not too confusing.

Actually our spirit, once sealed by the Holy Spirit after we confessed Romans 10:9, cannot sin. That is how one should understand
1 John 3:9
Its our flesh that commits works of the flesh Galatians 5:19, but we are not our flesh, our true identity is the Spirit.

The sin nature (the "Old Man") isn't dead. It now wars with our New Nature (the "new Man") in Christ.

And it will remain so until we leave this earth.

We experience the new birth and know we aren't the same sinful person, Then life itself tests us. Sort of Hath God said hissing to us ( ;) ) as we go through life's trials. So we put faith in the Word that we are dead to sin. But as I said before. Old habits can be hard to overcome. And sometimes we disregard what we know is right.

That's when I'm thankful that He restores us when we change our minds and turn back to Him.

So it's a case of like a man or woman who looks into a mirror, then goes away and forgets what He saw. Close! Did it from memory.

Reactivated...love it...never heard that term before:unsure::unsure::unsure::unsure:.

We're not sinners because we sin.....we sin because we're sinners. Unfortunately we don't stop until we go home.
