What Does it Take to be An Expert Sandwich Maker?

  • Knowing the difference between buns and bread, and when to use which one.

Hey Everyone! :)

In a recent thread that talks about the qualities that people are looking for in a future spouse, a particularly perceptive poster wrote that having "an expert sandwich maker would be a nice bonus."

The question was then raised as to what, exactly, would qualify someone as an "expert sandwich maker"?

As we all know, here in Singles, we only talk about THE most DIRELY IMPORTANT issues when it comes to being single, and I'm fairly certain that everyone here is in agreement that being able to make a good sandwich is a CRUCIAL skill.

And so... I'm going to create a poll that will hopefully "stack up" a few ideas, but in the meantime...

* What do YOU think is needed to be an "expert sandwich maker"?

* What kinds of sandwiches do you like, and is there anything in particular that your expert sandwich maker would need to know about making your sandwich?

* On a scale of 1-10 (1 being peanut butter and jelly; 10 being a full monte crisco with homemade raspberry jam), how would you rate YOUR OWN sandwich-making skills?

For maximum fun, please take a minute to check out the poll as well as answering these questions here in your post!

And, just to switch it up a bit, I'm going to make it so that the answers are visible and we can see what everyone thinks is most important when making that truly unforgetable, masterpiece of a sammich. :)

Thanks for this very exciting thread sis! :)

For me, aslong as there is MEAT in the sandwich, I am happy - chicken, ham, beef, pork, steak....all of dat!

Dont gimme that “only veges” typa sammie cos that won’t fly with me.

Now, I feel like a sammie 😋

My favorite sandwich is a cheeseburger. 4 pieces of French toast made into 2 grilled cheese sandwiches make the bun....

I was taught that it takes 8 slices of salami to make a sandwich. Gallo salami from Santa Rosa-not any cheap imitations.

I thought you meant the sliced hard salami, smaller diameter.
For cotto salami, a one to one ratio is good.

An expert sandwich maker will never try to fob you off with one slice of baloney on bread with a little mayo. That is NOT a sandwich! A real sandwich should be worth the time it took to combine all the ingredients. At least half an inch of shaved turkey. That's the minimum, not the maximum.

Kim I had to select all of those as they are all very important.

And speaking of knowing which combinations will go well together...
One time, just to see how it would turn out, I made a sandwich with peanut butter, mayo, strawberry jam, fried egg and onion. It wasn't incredibly good but none of the flavors clashed with each other. Not something I would make often, but I had to know if my brain was right. My brain insisted it wouldn't be disgusting. It was right.

How in the world is Eli going to be able to muster up the energy to accomplish things like industrial sewing and taking over girlie threads if all he eats are measly little hor d'oeuvres? :cry:

Alas, I also must confess that I am actually... a sandwich heretic. *Seoulsearch hangs her head.*

I like my sandwiches to be just like my personality -- dry and uneventful. :D

I hate sloppy buns.

I hate soggy vegetables.

I can't stand goop smeared all over my sammich.

You can have all the ketchup, mayo, secret sauce, and Grey Poupon you want-- and if I'm making a sandwich FOR someone, I'll happily slap all that slop all over it, right to their heart's desire.

But as for my sandwiches?

No gooping, drooping, soggy sponges for me, thanks. They gots to be high and dry!

(Admittedly, there are a few exceptions, like a scrumptious French dip... however, the au jus, or any other sauce, has to be on the SIDE.)

10-4! :)

For real! Little skinny sandwiches are not enough for a meal, or even one of the foods in a meal. Skinny sandwich is just enough to make me mad that there's not more.
