The original Easter occurred on the first day of the Jews' week. (Matt 28:1,
Mark 16:1-2, and John 20:1)

However, the first day of the Jews' week isn't the anchor for Jesus'
resurrection. The real anchor is whatever night of the week that the paschal
lamb is eaten, and the date for that night floats on the civil calendar, i.e. it
isn't fixed like Christmas and birthdays.

The paschal dinner is always eaten at night; viz: after the sun goes down--
all the way down. This year's night for the dinner will commence after
sundown on Friday April 19 which means that Jesus would die on the cross
the afternoon of that same day because his death occurred during the
afternoon of the day that the Jews were preparing for their paschal lamb
dinner. (John 18:28, John 19:14)

So if we begin counting the three days that Jesus predicted in John 2:19
with sunrise April 20; then Easter this year would take place after sunrise on
April 22; in other words: Easter would take place on a Monday this year
instead of Sunday.

The three nights that Jesus predicted in Matt 12:40 are counted by
beginning with the night of the paschal dinner. Seeing as it's scheduled to
begin after sundown April 19, then that night becomes the first night; and
the third night would then begin after sundown April 21.

I didn't begin the thread intending to prove that Good Friday is an error. It's
merely to show what day of the week that Easter would fall on were Jesus
crucified in 2019.

BTW: Easter would fall on Saturday April 11 were he crucified in 2020, and
Tuesday March 30 were he crucified in 2021.

John 20:1) The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. 2)Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

The first day of the week is Sunday in our world............that is why we celebrate Resurrection Sunday........which most people call Easter........

Matthew 28:1) In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first dayof the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. 2) And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
3) His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: 4) And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. 5) And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. 6)He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Mark 16:1) And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. 2) And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. 3) And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? 4) And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. 5) And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. 6) And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.

We didn't just make up Resurrection Sunday ya know. It is firmly based on Scriptural Truth!

I'm not trying to do away with a very satisfactory Christian tradition. But
you're simply going to have to accept that as Passover moves around the
calendar from year to year, it moves Easter right along with it because
the night of the paschal dinner is a floating feast; it's not a fixed date on the
civil calendar. As a result, were Jesus to be crucified this year in 2019, his
resurrection would take place on a Monday instead of Sunday.

Just wondering where the name easter came from though, cos thats a pagan festival to celebrate spring.

I mean we cant even do that at the same time as people in the northern hemispehre, cos at that time for us in the southern hemisphere its autumn. So when everyones talking about eggs and bunnies and chickens, at that time we are harvesting pumpkins and chillies.

I thought it was Passoever and the cruixfiction that were related, not easter. Just happens to occur at the same time.

Most everyone the world over knows that Easter commemorates Jesus
Christ's resurrection; but the thing that needs to be told again and again is
that without it, his crucifixion would've been futile.

1Cor 15:17 . . If Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you
are still in your sins.

Let me explain.

Rom 4:25 . . He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to
life for our justification.

The first half of that verse speaks of Isa 53:6

"We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way;
and The Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all."

The second half of Rom 4:25 speaks of "justification" which is translated
from the Greek word dikaiosis (dik-ah'-yo-sis) which means acquittal;
defined as an adjudication of innocence.

In other words; it's by means of Christ's resurrection that people can get
their records, spoken of in Rev 20:11-15, cleared so that on the books it's as
though they've never been anything but 100% innocent.

Were I the Devil, the one component of Christianity that I would make my
mission in life to invalidate is Christ's resurrection because it is by means of
belief in his resurrection that hell-bound people have the opportunity to
obtain an acquittal. Failure to believe it will result in losing their one God
given chance to wipe the books; and thus they'll remain on a sure-fire path
to the sum of all fears.

A former job had Good Friday off too until someone complained that it was religious (Christian) in nature so they switched to another day of the year.
The atheists' tried to ban crosses on hilltops in California. The hill tops were sold to churches and the crosses never torn down.:D

I don't see where those verses say that the resurrection took place on the 1st day of the week. What do you have in mind?

Hebrews 9:27-28 King James Version (KJV)
27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Jesus didn't die Passover 2019. When he died, he rose again on the First day. Easter is suppose to remind us of the fact he rose again and we don't have to kill Passover lambs to be covered by the blood.

Jesus only had to die once.

So why does it matter what day Passover is? Did Jesus say we are still under the old covenant and have to kill a Passover lamb?

You argue the resurrection was on a Sunday, but it was actually on a Saturday evening. Christ was buried just before sundown: and 3 days/3 nights add up to a just before sundown resurrection. Jesus was crucified on a Wednesday. The Romans said it was Friday because of the sundown Sabbath was approaching. But it says in John 19:14 it was the preparation day (crucifixion day) which is the day before the annual Sabbath of the First Day of Unleavened Bread. Ask any Jew what the preparation day is. An annual Sabbath is called a high day.

John 19:31: "The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away."

John 20:1: "The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre."

Three days and three nights raises Him on Saturday evening. He had already risen unseen by early Sunday. Jesus was talking with Mary saying he had not ascended to His Father yet:

John 20:16-18: “Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.”

John 20:19: “Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.”

Later that same day He appeared to His disciples and they could touch Him. That is when He told Thomas to touch His wounds and then He ate with them. So, we can say for sure the first ascension was on Sunday. We are given a picture of His ascension as the wave sheaf day: [look up wave sheaf day for yourself] when the first fruits were waved before God as a tribute. This was always done on the first Sunday after Passover.

The resurrection was actually on a Saturday evening. Christ was buried just before sundown: And 3 days/3 nights add up to a just before sundown resurrection. Jesus was crucified on a Wednesday.

Before Sundown Wednesday – before Sundown Thursday – Day 1

Before Sundown Thursday – before Sundown Friday – Day 2

Before Sundown Friday – before Sundown Saturday – Day 3

Three days and three nights raises Him on Saturday evening before sundown. He had already risen, unseen, by early Sunday. :)

Yes I get it. The resurrection wasn't discovered till Sunday a.m. We know the word was distorted by the RCC; like which day the sabbath was. Saturday! In fact, I know it was changed because when people worked outside Sundays traditionally had the worst weather so folks would rathe go to church or stay home that day. The RCC changed it to accommodate the pantheistic population and collect more approval as well as more loot. So what? We worship the Lord every day don't we?

Does the day matter or what happened that day. He rising, will remain so for eternity. I think it is important and admire how studied you all are. I want to know these things, but ultimately it is His Risen condition not the specific day of this life giving miracle that stands out to me. I wonder, though, if it is because I am not knowledgeable, not yet, about the specifics surrounding this Monumental Occasion.

Personally I think Christmas is far overrated. Easter morning is far more important than what day he was born to die. Only he walked out of a sealed tomb 3 days and nights after being crucified then speared in the side to make sure he was dead. Skip the Ho, Ho, Ho's. Praise the Lord for he is risen. And thank you for the complement. I am humbled.

Here is why it matters:

The Fall of Babylon

Rev. 18:1-10 "And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory. And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double. How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her. And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come."

Constantine hijacked Christianity in the fourth century. The Protestant movement was good but it also carried most of the errors into it's doctrine. Until this last day, when God is going to pour out His wrath, it did not matter much. Those spiritually in bed with Roman doctrine will suffer that wrath. Just saying... :cautious:
