I have a question.........based upon a study of the words and using logically deduced conclusions based upon the words

Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away.

When Saul was converted and became PAUL, he was given direct revelation from JESUS and knowledge supernaturally imparted unto him, just like the men who were inspired to write the bible........

NOW that the bible is COMPLETE, and the COMFORTER goes before and LEADS and GUIDES into ALL truth there is no need for KNOWLEDGE to be supernaturally given to MEN...why? BECAUSE we have the written word of GOD, MEN sent to preach and proclaim it and the perfect GUIDE (H.S.) that LEADS us into ALL truth......

THIS points to the fact that 1st Corinthians 13 is CORRECT in it's assessment of KNOWLEDGE and it VANISHING away........as the word of GOD was completed, accompanied by the H.S. there was NO NEED for KNOWLEDGE to be supernaturally imparted to men.......and to say that it is still needed TOTALLY undermines what the word of GOD has to say about the word......

We have the written word completed
We have the Comforter to GUIDE us into the truth
We have God called and placed pastors and teachers to instruct us
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word

This principle rings true as well when it comes to PROPHECY......The book of REVELATION is clear....it is finished...we have NO NEED of some new PROPHECY....we have ALL that we need to understand and GOD states clearly to NOT ADD ONE WORD to the prophetic utterances that have been given in the word..........it is called the BIBLE (BOOK) for a reason.....MEN have added chapters and verses.....it is to be taken in it's collective WHOLE......Think about the concept of the very words....Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail

The word FAIL

katargeó: to render inoperative, abolish
Original Word: καταργέω
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: katargeó
Phonetic Spelling: (kat-arg-eh'-o)
Definition: to render inoperative, abolish
Usage: (a) I make idle (inactive), make of no effect, annul, abolish, bring to naught, (b) I discharge, sever, separate from.

WHY.....BECAUSE THERE IS NO NEED for them with the COMPLETED word of GOD<----IT tells us ALL that we need to KNOW and I dare to say that ANYONE that ADDS a NEW PROPHECY after the FACT is not being led of GOD

SAME word APPLIED to KNOWLEDGE

katargeó: to render inoperative, abolish
Original Word: καταργέω
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: katargeó
Phonetic Spelling: (kat-arg-eh'-o)
Definition: to render inoperative, abolish
Usage: (a) I make idle (inactive), make of no effect, annul, abolish, bring to naught, (b) I discharge, sever, separate from

Same principle rings true...there is NO NEED fro NEW KNOWLEDGE...the BIBLE is complete....it is the MIND of CHRIST and we HAVE all we NEED in IT to be, do, live, as GOD would have us.....

the word applied to LANGUAGES IS

pauó: to make to cease, hinder
Original Word: παύω
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: pauó
Phonetic Spelling: (pow'-o)
Definition: to make to cease, hinder
Usage: (a) act: I cause to cease, restrain, hinder, (b) mid: I cease, stop, leave off.

The implication seems very clear to me...........

AND NOW ABIDES FAITH, HOPE and LOVE <----the context is LOVE will NEVER FAIL but the ABOVE THREE WILL........AND NOW abides FAITH, HOPE and LOVE

Why does PAUL, under inspiration only LIST FAITH, HOPE and LOVE while SAYING the other THREE will be abolished, rendered inoperative and or caused to CEASE IF they are still active unto this day some 1960 years later?????
The question isn't that they will cease, the question is WHEN.

The fact that God VERY CLEARLY stated "DO NOT FORBID" and "36Did God’s word originate with you? Or are you the only ones it has reached? 37If anyone considers himself a prophet or spiritual person, let him acknowledge that what I am writing you is the Lord’s command. 38But if anyone ignores this, he himself will be ignored.b means He KNEW there would be those who try to put them away prematurely. Those two verses are a preemptive strike against cessationism.

But I'm tired of this D, rehashing the same old arguments with the same old group of, how did the Bible put it? - the uninstructed. So I'm going to do what the Bible says to do with them ... put you on ignore.

What ever man.....the bible is clear.....end of story....so is cease, vanish and fail.......the bible is complete and we have no need for any of the three.......nothing like using a carnal, immature church with 15 errors to base belief on.......put me on ignore....does not bother me!!

Are you Jesus? He is God and you are not. Paul cursed someone but he repented immediately because it was wrong.
I never cursed anyone...get your facts straight Tiknerbell!! And then lose the bias and call him out for falsely accusing me first!!

You've only addressed one verse that I mentioned. Paul also told the Corinthians to be eager to prophesy. He did not write, "Be eager to add to Scripture." I find your position inconsistent with what is recorded in the Bible.
When PAUL wrote that the word of God was not completed.......and NO my position is consistent..........you are still using as proof text a church letter written some 40 to 50 years before the completion of the word of GOD and written to a worldly, carnal, immature church with some 15 errors....

your comment does refute the Biblical points presented LOL Not.
Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. (v 39)

This was addressed to an apostolic church while the apostles were alive and all the spiritual gifts were in use. However since Paul prophesied that tongues would cease, they did cease, since they were primarily a sign to unbelieving Jews (v 22). So no one needs to forbid that which is already obsolete. Also no non-Charismatic Christian can forbid others from speaking in modern tongues

We know from Acts that word 'tongues' means languages:

Acts 2: 4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

So, the disciples were speaking in a 'tongue' (Greek or Hebrew) before the Holy spirit enabled them other tongues.

The idea of private language(s) doesn't hold water. There is no such thing as private language.

Get your facts straight dude....

Was JESUS loving the people when he drove out the money changers or was calling the Pharisees white washed coffins filled with the bones of dead men?

See.....you assume, mouth, accuse just like the one you referenced and when we fire back you put out the drivel and blather above........and the funny thing......you incessantly whine about God not using you.....maybe look at yourself then start accusing!
I would say yes Jesus never stops loving because he is love if the driving out the money changers is not seen as love it is only because one is looking at what Jesus did from their understanding of what is not an act of love.

Did Jesus do anything that would be unloving? No, I do not believe he did.

I would agree....and the point is clear.....just because we say tough things at times to the people around us does not indicate hate......you and I have disagreed vehemently many times and even used heated rhetoric but that did not mean that I hate you....one thing I cannot stand is for people to attribute hate just because we may say very stiff pointed things at times.....

I didn't give any "proof text"; I gave you four witnesses from Scripture; more than what is required.

Plenty of scriptural verses mention things that "would" happen. We don't automatically conclude that they "have" happened.

You gave no proof of anything happening after the completion of the word of God when Revelation was penned.....proof would be.....EVERY church in the bible addressed on the subject at hand and the words...WILL continue unto the end of the age........until then the words given to a carnal, immature, church with some 15 errors and using my head to deduce facts works just fine to make a logical, biblical conclusion

Asking for scriptural proof of something that occurred after the close of the canon is simply ridiculous. My position is based on Scripture, and despite your bleating, you haven't defended your position against the Scripture I showed. Is there anything inherently corrective in "Be eager to prophesy"? No. Is that statement inherently contrary to the its context? No.

I'm content to agree to disagree on the conclusion, but I won't agree that your position is scripturally sound.

I haven't suggested anything of the sort. That you ask tells me that you haven't paid adequate attention to what I wrote.

A logical conclusion to defending current day prophetic utterances......and make no mistake I do pay attention....

Tell me ONE truth that we cannot glean from the bible under the banner of needing a new revelation or prophecy?

And completely illogical in light of my post #17.

Tell me ONE truth that we cannot glean from the bible under the banner of needing a new revelation or prophecy?
As I haven't made any assertion regarding which your question would be relevant, I see no reason to respond to it.

What part of cease, fail and vanish away do people not understand........?

Why do many use the Corinthian church as proof in the pudding when it is called carnal, immature and worldly with some 15 errors?
this isn't necessarily addressed to dcon, but my thoughts on his response which is the default position for some on this site

the Corinthian church received instruction from Paul

the NT is full of instructions and it seems people interpret them different ways

you ask why 'people use' these instructions because the church he sent these instructions to was, in your words, carnal etc...and yes they were in pretty bad shape

the interesting thing here, is that Paul didn't tell them they were going to hell or to shut up and never 'blabber around in tongues again'

nope. he did not do that at all

instead, he wrote down the instructions for how to act in a demeanor worthy of the gifts God gives by His Spirit

and you and others come along and for some reason, you think this is a bad example.

is it? let's see now.

David. bad example with regards to sin. how many men had to die because he numbered Israel? (I know...everyone thought I would mention Bathsheba but there is so much more) and then he had a man murdered by proxy, lied to everyone, ignored God over it etc...until he was called out by Nathan

and Moses who struck the rock and forfeited entering the promised land

and Abraham who kept lying about the fact the lovely Sarah was actually his wife

and Samson who had that affair and lost everything

and the entire nation of Israel who went a whoring

and really so much much more. individuals and an entire nation

yet God called everyone of those people and the entire nation

so why should the Corinthian church somehow become the example in scripture that is dirty and let's just ignore it?

since 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works. II Timothy 3:16-17

why would II Corinthians be an exception?

Paul was reproving, correcting if you will and instructing the Corinthians so that they could be perfect and thoroughly furnished to all good works, tongues being a part of it

Paul said do not forbid to speak in tongues. yet you and others do

continue to do so at your leisure. it is simply an unavoidable fact that you have an opinion and believe that tongues and knowledge have ceased. tongues could not have ceased if knowledge has not ceased. you're not dumb. you know that but you continue to argue otherwise

those who speak in tongues and heed the instructions are not rolling in the aisles, barking or crowing or acting out in immature emotional chaos. apparently, many do not heed the instructions

nothing has changed from the time Paul wrote what he did up until now.

so your opinion is how you conduct yourself

ditto for those who are not cessationists

and of course there are no more carnal, immature and or worldly Christians so we can dismiss all instruction

we have arrived at the perfect. I just didn't think it would look like this

full preterists say we are living in the kingdom. I didn't think that would look like this either

addendum:

What part of cease, fail and vanish away do people not understand........?
what part of DO NOT FORBID TO SPEAK IN TONGUES do you not understand?

and that was noted AFTER Paul gave correction and instruction

no

the perfect has not come and knowledge has not passed away

but you can operate on that if you so wish.

Because they are in the same position as the Corinthians.
you know, some actually are

but those who give heed and pay attention TO THE INSTRUCTIONS

are moving ahead and who knows....maybe God hears them

do you think so?
