Every Pastor on television is not preaching the truth, but does have the appearance of success.

1 John 1:9 King James Version (KJV)
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We were cleansed from all unrighteousness when we were regenerated in Christ. All our sins were covered by the blood of Christ. And God remembers them no more.
When that happened when we chose to repent of those sins and accept Christ as our Savior, does that mean those old sins aren't remembered by our Father, but he'll tally new one's? No.
We confess our sins so that God knows what we did wrong? An Omniscient Father of Love? No, we confess our sins to put ourselves at peace because we know we did wrong and confess it. We have an advocate with the Father when we do wrong; Jesus.

I watched a pastor long ago while surfing the TV channels say, a Christian who sins even once is returned to utter damnation as a sinner!
I wondered if he realized what he just confessed of his state. Lying is a sin.
I doubt he did. He was in a scandal years later having divorced his fifth wife and having to divide marital property that included houses all over the United States, and a yacht at a Florida yacht club.

Notice that - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (vs. 9) is IN CONTRAST TO - If we say that we have no sin,(present tense) we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us (vs. 8) and - If we say that we have not sinned, (past tense) we make him a liar, and his word is not in us (vs. 10).

Certain people misunderstand 1 John 1:9 to mean that we "must confess each and every sin that we commit as we commit them" (keep a specific inventory) as an "additional requirement" to "remain cleansed" and "if we forget a sin we are toast!"

Believers speak the same/acknowledge/agree with God's perspective about their sins and have a settled recognition and ongoing acknowledgment that one is a sinner in need of cleansing and forgiveness.

And if I can just add, sometimes we dont know all our sins. we forget them. we forget how badly we treated someone. Or we werent even aware of our behaviour.
A repentant attitude. Thats the key. Humility. Easier said than done.

"Every pastor"... this includes Jimmy Swaggart and all his minions.
Ahem, I do not think that is how he meant it :giggle: Put a different way, like, NOT every pastor is teaching truth, means some may be, and surely he would think his is? Just a thought :geek:

I figured that, but I will take every opportunity to point out his hypocrisy. I think he has me on Ignore anyway. ;)

First of all, financial wealth is not success, right? ...'easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven'. Secondly, confessing sins can be construed as an act of works and thus, is antagonistic to faith. And, one cannot even recall, recognize or identify all his sins, anyhow. So, i can't imagine that confession is requisite to salvation. In that one's repentance is quite evident by accepting Christ as Lord & Saviour, this is the implication of the abrogation of the law and faith in Christ. By confessing Christ as Lord, you have tacitly confessed your past, present & future sins, have you not?

I believe that 1 John 1:9 is referring, in one sense, to the initial confession, i.e. if anyone believes that they are beyond salvation, John is stating that if you accept Christ by repentance (tantamount to confessing sins), he has the ability to wash you clean. But even before or after your acceptance of Christ, don't deny your sins, or claim that you have no guilt before God, confess that you are a sinner continuously (specifics aren't necessary), and God's grace will remain on you.

I believe it is talking about attitude

We may not remember all our sin but if we remember we better confest it.

I believe God will understand and forgive our sin even we not confest it, because we not remember

Martin Luther was almost driven to madness trying to remember every sin he had committed throughout his life, fearing that if he had forgotten one he might receive eternal punishment. But then his eyes were opened to God’s grace through faith and peace encompassed him. Amen!

It could be that when one is contritely confessing their sins to Jesus asking them to be washed clean by the shed blood of Jesus dying on the cross, what is actually being confessed is their sinful attitude that led to these sins and for those that may follow as well. Who can possibly remember each and every sin that they committed? I have trouble remembering what happen 5 minutes ago yet alone each and every sin that I have committed. It is like it is stated in the bible about the stars in the sky and grains of sand on the sea shore, impossible to count.

If I had to confess the entirety of my sins, I don't think I'd be able to get out of bed.
