How our Christmas celebrations started

At first Christians all celebrated the Lord with the feasts. The first heads of the Christian church (for more than 70 years) were Jews like Peter and James the Just, brother of Christ. They had a background of extensive biblical knowledge and knew the ways of the Lord.

Then came the wars with Rome and the Jerusalem Jews were about wiped out with blood running in the streets. The first war was in 68-73.

Gentile Christians took over with pagan backgrounds and little biblical knowledge. We have their names and lots of their writings. For a while they introduced lots of strange ideas and they thought of Jews and their ways as strange. They had always celebrated idols on Sunday, so now they celebrated the Lord on Sunday and converted their pagan holidays to Christian celebrations. They eventually converted a winter celebration to Christmas.

The feasts were given to Israel as part of the Law. While the feasts do indeed point towards Christ, none of the feasts celebrate the Incarnation. Christians celebrate the incarnation; Jews don't.

After Titus invaded Israel many of the people were scattered. The Christians moved north into eastern Europe. There they taught Christianity, those people didn't have old Jewish traditions to over come so they taught them what Paul and Peter and the other had taught them, Jesus crucified for their sins, they just didn't bring the old Jewish law with them. However they did have to deal with ingrained pagan cultural practices, so rather than stripping those people completely of their heritage they Christianized their cultural normality. Removing only the pagan element but keeping the elements that were not inherently pagan. For example, it's not inherently pagan to have a harvest celebration, even Israel had a harvest celebration. The Christian immigrants and refugees, simply taught the pagans to honor Christ in their harvest celebration rather than pagan idols. And thuss Judaism was never exported to Europe by the Christians.

Just like Christians...take that which the world does, adopt it, but put a “Christian” spin on it. (Holidays, clothes, music, tattoos, etc.) We’re always one step behind the world.

Well, the world rejected Christ. So we took Him... Scripture says there is nothing new under the sun. Why not take what there is, make it for the glory of God, and share it with the world?

Oh my goodness. I'm going to celebrate Christmas. I love that even the heathen acknowledge the birth of the Savior. They do not know Him personally as Savior but at least they know He was born.

When an unsaved person wishes you Merry Christmas ever feel in your heart that you want him to know the baby Christ in the manger as their Savior?

Rejoice in your heart and give glory to God. Let the haters hate and go on to love and glorify Christ in your heart. Teach your children to love the Lord Christ. Let all the children of God rejoice.

Should we also include in this thread how the name of the days of the week was started, too?

I dunno, but one thing's for sure: Wednesday and Thursday don't get much love when it comes to song titles........

It is a thread simply and only telling of what happened, you guys are the ones making it into a judgement thread. And your judgments are not even based on facts but you bring in your prejudices you acquired mostly through ignorance.

I suggest you read and understand the Lord's Prayer, it tells about judgment posts such as these.
