I wasn't speaking of California, but of the US as a nation. The last time I checked, the average price was below $2.50/gallon for the entire country.

Okay, since I've used Exxon and Amazon, let's continue using them as examples. Do you GENUINELY feel like Amazon can't absorb the cost... that it's impossible for them without going bankrupt? Are you familiar with how much money they made last year and how much they ended up paying in taxes?

It sounds like divorce is exponentially more costly than corporate taxes for Jeff Bezos... he shelled out $38 billion for his divorce settlement and he's not even CLOSE to bankruptcy. lol I understand the man needs to eat... but can he really not afford to pay corporate taxes without having to eat ramen noodles every day so he can make ends meet? You're implying if Amazon paid 21% corporate tax, he'd have to apply for food stamps? Come on...

It is not about what should be, or what you and I believe should be.
The reality is that most if not every increase is taxes Exxon and Amazon will be passed on to the consumer.
Not saying I like it or agree it is right, but as I said before---
It always has been that way and always will be.

So be it then. If Exxon passes their corporate tax bill on the consumer, we will use their product less. It's why gas prices eventually stabilized. They found a happy medium.

If Amazon wants to charge more per year for their prime membership, go for it. We were fine without it and many people will still pay it. The point you're not understanding is that at LEAST Amazon is paying their taxes. No one is putting a gun to consumers heads saying they have to sign up for prime membership.

It's no different than with income tax. If you make $12,000/year, you should pay SOMETHING in taxes. If you make $12,000,000/year, you should pay SOMETHING. No one should have a free ride. How do we pay for all the things we have if not for taxes? Everyone wants the government to do X, Y, and Z... but no one wants to pay taxes. That's understandable, but it's a necessary evil that EVERYONE, regardless of how much (or little) money you make has to pay. Corporations shouldn't have a different standard.

A Democrat that promises to jack our taxes when he's president. He can't do that as president. He should stay in the Senate where he can have a better chance at making his promise come true.

Just my opinion---
The only tax that is fair is a sales tax.
Exempt food, rent, prescription drugs, and medical cost but tax all other purchases.
It should be a tax that increases with the price.
Say 5% on all purchases up to $10,000 and increase it 1% for every additional $5,000 with a 50% max .
So no tax on necessities but tax on the wants.
That is the only way the rich will pay their fair share.

What about sales of houses and vehicles?

For some time I was a proponent of a national sales tax in lieu of the income tax for a couple of reasons.
A) You're taxed on what you spend, not what you make thus it promotes saving/investing
B) It is impossible to evade via working under the table and those who are in illegal businesses end up paying taxes finally.

Unfortunately, a national sales tax disproportionately affects the lower income brackets because they spend (out of necessity) virtually every penny they make whereas the wealthy have huge amounts of income that is never spent.

More recently I've been a proponent of a flat income tax. Under a given amount is exempted above that level everyone pays the same percentage but the current system of deductions (which does favor the more affluent) is eradicated.

I don't believe income tax should exist at all. It is a way of imparting indentured servitude into working class. Make up for it by taxing the revenue garnered by the investments the rich have in the markets.
Sales tax on everything but food, homes, and autos.
The ideal future would be one where term limits are put on the law makers. After that, make their post a volunteer position. Rather than money they get tax credits for time put in.
If we could outlaw lobbyists and special interests that for decades have bought politicians we may have a chance at making our country better.

It would be simple to exempt "necessities" such as food, prescription drugs, medical cost, etc,
Many states now exempt food and other "necessities" from state sales tax.
As for as houses, exemp your primary residence up to say $250,000, put tax all second and third houses.
As for vehicles, exempt used vehicle sales ut to say $10,000 but tax all new and used over $10,000.
There is a way to make this work and it would be much more fair in my opinion.

Obiden-Bama has promised to re-elect Trump.

"WE CAN NOT WIN THIS ELECTION -- WE CAN ONLY REELECT DONALD TRUMP"

Said by Joe Biden in his St. Louis rally.

This just goes to show how low the Democrat Party has fallen. But for voters to actually donate to Biden's campaign and talk about voting for him shows that a portion of the population has literally become mad -- crazy.

Two things. I think even the party mascot is embarrassed by that one.
Dumbocrats comes to mind now. All those voters who chose Biden over anyone during the latest primaries.

Mid-stage? Joe Biden was suffering signs of dementia back in at least 2013.
It's sad to see this. His handlers, for God's sake, his wife, should take the man aside and tell him it's over. Stress like this and being on the campaign trail the way he is aggravates the symptoms of dementia. He's never going to make it to November. But, as hubby says, it's all about the money. His handler's want the money, the people who think they'll benefit if he does actually win the election, presuming his health gets him there, are all counting on him to keep this up. They don't care about his health, obviously. What a tragic legacy he'll have after all this.

And that last part, the video, he can only get worse after that. He was reading his speech and couldn't keep that straight. Never recovered to say what he was suppose to say, even when he tried, as we saw in that short clip. Sad is what that is. Terribly sad.
Dear God, please let someone who genuinely cares for that man save him from those who are exploiting him in this condition. Let him leave the race so he can rest and take care of himself.

I see a *sad" emoticon. Not sure why anyone would be sad about Biden's gaffes. He should never have even entered this race, and the DNC should have strongly advised him to cease and desist. Instead they made sure Bernie is pushed out and Biden comes to the fore.

But since he refused to back off when everyone knew that Communist Sanders was leading, his gaffes should be exposed. He would endanger the Republic is he ever took any kind of public office. Now Twitter is trying to manipulate his gaffes so that people do not see the pathetic reality of this.

What a bunch of utter crap😂.

You know as well as anyone that what you’re saying is more out of context than Donald Trump in the White House.

Seriously?🤦‍♀️

What a sad, pathetic and condescending post from a foreigner.

Why don’t you just mind your own business and don’t be minding ours?

What gives you the idea @Nehemiah6 is a foreigner?
Besides that observation, I've read that very same post in a whole different thread.

Dang! Thought maybe you mighta went to the dollar store and bought an ounce of integrity!

Alas, shouldn’t expect decency from someone who’s going to vote for a man obviously with dementia!

For those wondering, this “classy” lady said she wouldn’t address me anymore. And I haven’t addressed her except to respond to her lack of integrity.
