Hey Everyone,
With most people "sheltering in place" and socially distancing from one another, DIY (Do It Yourself) projects have become a big thing -- why not extend that to matchmaking? And so, without further ado, I present to you, The Singles Forum Do It Yourself Matchmaking Thread! The idea here is for people to share about themselves to the extent that they are comfortable, then learn about others with the hope of creating a greater sense of community here.
If you see someone in the thread that you would like to get to know, I hope you'll pray about it and, if given peace, will go ahead and contact that person. I'm not sure what the current cost is to be able to PM someone, as it gets updated from time to time, but I think it's $25? (For those of you who know what the current rules are, please give us the scoop.) I realize this is a challenge for many people (especially during the pandemic), but on the flip side, it's less expensive than dating sites or a real-life outing. You might also be able to visit that person's profile and leave a note on their message wall if their settings allow it.
Feel free to "talk" to each other in the thread as well -- ask questions, make comments, joke and banter back and forth. This thread is hopefully all about having some fun and meeting some awesome people. No pressure, no obligation, and if nothing else, maybe you'll make a new friend.
When I wrote in my original matchmaking brainstorming thread about having a 3-thread series in which the 2nd thread would help let us know what we had to work with, this is an edited version of what I had in mind. Hopefully this thread will be as inclusive as possible because it's strictly up to you whether you want to participate or not. This way it won't become a matter of who remembers whom to match them up with someone -- everyone can be part of this, and to the extent that they choose.
If you'll give me just a minute, I'm going to start by creating a poll of people's interests. The old system allowed for something like 40 options, but I think this one only allows for something like 15 (we're about to find out!), which is why I'll have to lump some categories together and the options might seem to fall short. But this also creates the perfect opportunity for YOU to tell us what you enjoy and why! The poll will be multiple choice and open, which allows people to see your name next to the options you've chosen. Please be sure to post as well as checking off your answers!
In addition to the poll, I will also create a list of ideas for general information to share -- keep in mind though that the entire internet can see this, so for safety reasons, I would suggest not giving away anything too personal here in the thread.
Just give me a little bit of time, as I'm going to write the poll first and then write a list of "Introductions" in a separate post here to make it easier for people to copy, paste, and answer on their own.
I'm hoping that these two formats (a poll and list of questions/ideas) will be helpful to a wide number of people in expressing themselves, because I know we're all different and have different styles of communicating.
Hope you all enjoy this and let's have some Christian fun and fellowship.
