Hey everyone, a dear friend and I were talking and we wanted to share this... We hope this will encourage you in whatever you’re facing right now!

2020 has been so hard for people around the world, in different ways. But there's something about going into the holiday season especially that triggers bittersweet memories. We are grieving new broken relationships and bitter political arguments. Wounds are still fresh from words that were said to us- and words we have spoken to others. Many of us have lost jobs and income. Some of us are struggling with anxiety, homelessness, and serious illness for the first time this year. Even some of us are mourning the deaths of family members and friends this year, from Covid or other causes.

Heartache seems to be the elephant in the room this Thanksgiving time... It may feel impossible to give thanks without feeling the need to force away our feelings of heartbreak, despair, and fatigue.

But the truth is God created our emotions, and He doesn't intend for us to pretend everything is okay! He knows everything you are facing right now, each little detail (Psalm 56:8). The good, the bad, and the ugly. We don't have to hide our disappointment and pain from Him. He calls us to come to Him and find rest and peace (Matthew 11:28). And it is through our honesty we can discover true thankfulness and see the blessings in the midst of pain.

We can still give thanks with a broken heart.

Remember that God loves you more than you can imagine, even though we are in a season we might not feel like celebrating. He sent us the Greatest gift of His Son to bring us salvation and eternal hope. We still have so much to be thankful for!

"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses,
but we have One who has been tempted in every way, just as we are- yet He did not sin.
Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence,
so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." -Hebrews 4:15-16

Something a lady with cancer once said is germane to this topic:

positive_attitude.png

"Having a positive attitude is almost tautologically good for your mental health, and extreme stress can hurt your immune system, but that doesn't mean you should feel terrible about feeling terrible."

Sometimes it's okay to admit you feel bad. And occasionally - very rarely - it can even be justified to punch out a person who refuses to stop trying to cheer you up when you're down. :sneaky:

By the way, thanks Natasha for posting this. Sometimes we feel bad and we feel guilty about feeling bad - especially in December.

It doesn't help that there are some people who, even this year, will not accept that sometimes some people feel bad, even in December.

I'm not on either side, feeling bad or trying relentlessly to cheer people up, but I see it happen and it sucks. People shouldn't make you feel guilty about feeling bad just because they are cheerful. >.>

So yeah, thanks for this reminder. Sometimes we all need to remember that it's not a sin to feel terrible about the parts of life that really suck, and it's not blasphemy to admit there are parts of life that really suck.

Is it OK to be OK this holiday season?
I have not stopped keeping Darlene in prayer. It is ok to be ok in the sight of our Maker, always. God bless you, Darlene, and your move and establishment there in T.

We can still give thanks with a broken heart.
Rather than "can", this is the exact time we SHOULD SHOUT OUR THANKS to God for all He has done for us. Thanking God in the good times is of little "spiritual" value in my opinion. Anyone can do that. Thanking God in the times of pain, suffering and dire distress...........THESE ARE THE TIMES when our spirit should CRY OUT to God and praise His Name!

The Apostles did just this when imprisoned, beaten, starved and stoned to death. Should we do any less?

Jonah gave a prayer of thanksgiving when he was stuck inside a whale, so..the lack of family around him didnt seem to phase his relationship with God (however fraught it was)

Jonah was a character..!

We have that 'peace that passeth all understanding' knowing we are heaven bound. 'Put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, lift up our voice to God' as He inhabits our praises:love:
I know so many are hurting esp these days, I pray the Holy Ghost comforts them.

Actually I think this year Christmas will be a lot more "normal" than it has been in the past two decades or so.

Every year December is a mad rush to buy this and that and put on this program and throw that party and oh shoot we have five different things happening on the same night so can we reschedule four of them...

This year we might get a lot closer to peace on earth.
