someone asked if I speak asian, but I have a speech impediment that means I cannot, and the words come out in English.
It is only when speaking in tongues that I sound asian, but, as speaking in tongues is the most hated thing in all of christianity it seems, I dont do it that often in front of people.
Despite what the Bible says, a lot of christians still think its weird.

Are people's perceptions of others cemented, by what others project about their inner beliefs about themselves? Contrarily, do observing people maybe perceive others from their own subjective observing frames of minds, of how these observing people personally relate to the world, from these observing people's own past experiences?

Kudos to Seoul for another thought provoking post. Such a blessing for all of us for her to be here.

I'm just going to speak the heart... as a introverted empath feeler all the stereotypes listed made me feel overwhelmed.

I'm probably going to miss some things I thought, and some of this is random, but that's ok I guess better something than nothing at all lol

I agree with Seoul and even to this day, we live in a cruel world. Social media says it all... quick to belittle, quick to offend, quick to judge. I am a believer there is a reason for everything... how we were raised, how we were taught to think, the experiences we were given has played a part in the heart that is formed today.

I embrace individuality... how God created us all uniquely beautiful. Some of our choices don't make us beautiful, but initially I don't believe that's how God created us and has given us free will to make choices.

I wish everyone saw each other as God sees us instead of quick to assume or stereotype. I rarely have given it much thought as to what stereotypes have applied to me. Maybe I need to go seek a counselor to convey my thoughts and see if I'm normal haha.

How should we deal with it? Seek the Holy Spirit for confirmation. He will guide your path and choices. We are all loved by Him. It brings us peace when He is in our focus.

You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.

Some people might look at the world, and other people around them, sometimes perceiving them positively, and sometimes with dark and negative perceptions, that sprung from their past experiences with other people that looked, smelled, sounded (, tasted??, felt??) or acted similar to yourself. Some people might start off their relationship with you, based on their past relationships with other people they associate with you, without them having any prior objective knowledge about yourself. They might judge you by ways of association, by means of how they observe you through their five senses, and sometimes even sixth sense, by reading your actions between the lines.

Be pleasing to God. Love God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and your neighbour as yourself - and you are guaranteed to be loved by the people that was chosen by God for salvation, before the foundation of the world was laid by God.

You will be loved by God and by the people chosen by the righteousness and mercy of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

There seems to be a stereotype I endure due to my political beliefs. This is the only place I get it at (which has made me want to leave this site in the past) unfortunately I cannot change there opinion, so I ignore it now. It is annoying however. Let the ignorant be ignorant I suppose. 🤷‍♂️

Was reading in a devotional by thomas keller something about that people are too individual these days and ought to think more of others than ourselves.

But I dont think he meant we can always know what others THINK or necessarily agree with what everyone else believes about us.

Which is actually a kinda inverted way of thinking. Because we are not God right. so it doesnt really matter what people believe about us, whether they be stereotypes or whatever. A lot of people have this idea that all christians are a certain way, and behave a certain way. Though clearly its not true.

Whats important is that we and others believe in God.

so really the focus ought to be on Jesus and what He did for us, and is doing right now. Its hard for some people to grasp this as they are always looking at what everyone else is doing.

Hey Everyone,

Some posts in another thread here in Singles brought me right back to the days of the kids on the playground (of a Lutheran school, no less,) at the library, and in the neighborhood "slanting" their eyes at me and calling me, "the little Chinese girl" (plot twist: I am not Chinese) along with other various racial stereotypes. This had me thinking about the stereotypes that EVERYONE faces at some point in our lives.

What have people assumed about you because of your race, gender, or social status?

For example, what goes through your mind when you hear:

* All (people of one race, group, ethnicity) (are like this, speak that, do all of the following stereotypical behaviors.)

And, it's certainly NOT just about race. How about these?

* Single people are (lazy, hopeless, wreckless, party all the time,) etc.

* Single adult men must be (I'm sure you can fill in the blanks.)

* Single adult women must be single because (fill in your reasons here.)

* Men only care about looks and sex.

* Women only care about prestige and money.

* Skinny people must be that way because (they're anorexic, they don't eat, they have a problem.)

* People who are overweight are that way because (they're lazy, they can't stop themselves, they refuse to do anything about it.)

* Pretty people have it all, and don't have to worry about anything

* Ugly people are always ignored.

* Rich people don't have to worry about anything.

* Poor people could do better if they just tried harder.

Has anyone ever assumed any of these things about you?

When I was younger, I would usually crumble because I was so shocked at how unbelievably cruel people can be. These days, I try my best to run right into a challenge head-on instead of backing down, and, when possible, I'll often try deflect it with a bit of humor when I can (however, some things, of course, are just too serious to make jokes about.)

How about the rest of you?

* What stereotypes have people assumed about YOU (and still assume about you today?)

* How do you choose to handle it? Is it different than how you used to react in the past? If, so, why?

Thank you for sharing, and I'm looking forward to hearing your answers. :)
My take on that is that folks think I’m stupid because I speak like a hick.😄

Then they think I’m even stupider because I’m short and ginger.🤦‍♀️(Why they ain’t got no ginger emoji on this one????)

Finally, they “know” I’m an idiot because I’m from where I’m from lol.

Haha...I’m just pretending to not being an idiot.😁

I think some people thought I was Japanese when Im not. But I just correct their mistake.
Nobodys ever slanted their eyes at me, but Im sure, if some non japanese children went to a Japanese school theyd get teased for having round eyes and might even be called English even if they arent from England.

Interesting thing is...children really dont know anything much about the outside world!

Not calling children stupid, but if you dont know, then you dont know and have to learn.
