I wont do a poll, because generally I dont like doing polls and I almost always tick the 'other' option lol

In church circles, there are even churches that kinda pride themselves on being 'non-conformist' well..I just want to unpack what that really means!

Are you always the odd one out in your family?
Or do you like to be the same or copy everyone else?
Do you do your best to fit in or do you like standing out?
do you like agreeing with everyone else or do you always have a contrary view...or are you so extreme that you will deliberately pick out something different just to be different?

Its a funny thing, that in while we might think we are being non-conformist actually we are always trying to conform...and doesnt God say he wants us to conform to the image of Christ? So what does conformity mean for you?

according to wiki, non conformist churches just mean those in england who dont belong to the church of england.

i.e church of scotland...and all those who emigrated to america to get away from COE.
huh

I didnt know there was an Act of Uniformity of 1662 either. wow.

non conformists called themselves 'free churches' but the conformists labelled them 'dissenters'

huh never knew, must have been quite tough in the day if you didnt pray the exact same prayer as someone else in church...

I conform if it's something worth conforming for. :geek:

One thing you need to look into: WHY is everybody doing it? Maybe for some things the majority is right. Maybe everybody is doing this because it is easier, or because it just plain works better.

Or maybe they're all doing this because it was the option that got the most advertising money. o_O Maybe a different option would be a better fit for you.

Either way, being a strict conformist or a nonconformist is lazy. Both ways - just doing what everybody else does AND doing everything different from how everybody else does - are both avoiding the effort of actually investigating whether the things everybody else is doing are good or bad for you.

hmm

anybody conformed in the COE here?

Or do more people go to a 'wacky, way out church' lol (i.e non-conformist)

As far as I know COE is the majority in nz, as it WAS a british colony, but thats only amongst the brits. that doesnt mean its the majority in other cultures.

I am not easy nor am i a normal agreeable person, so i have no problem telling people, things and ideas "NO".

I remember in November the courts thought it would be a brilliant idea to send me a jury summons.
I basically told them "NO" in the form of a letter of excuse and they instantly replied back to me saying my request was denied and that i still had to go. So what i did was i just sent a copy of my letter of excuse 3 more times, and 3 more times they denied me. On the forth time of re-sending in my excuse letter they started to crack and they replied with a request of postponement to another date. Again i sent the same excuse letter totally disregarding their offer. They received my 5th letter and they didn't say anything for a full week so i started to wonder if they had gotten it or not because if they didn't, i was ready to go to war with them and send it to them again and again and again... That weekend i decided to check my online status thing to see if they sent anything there, and when i logged in all i saw was this little message saying "you are excused".

Most people when they are given jury duty summons they usually do 1 of 2 things, they throw them away or they just go to them. When you throw them away you could be held in contempt of court, fined and face some jail time. My dad just throws his away and told me to do the same, but im like nah, id rather get excused officially and on good terms rather than having to be all paranoid wondering if i have a warrant for my arrest.

By constantly re sending in the same excuse over and again and not replying or taking their "no" for an answer i am stood firm because i am not conforming. Most of the time they just expect people to run away (which gives them license to get you arrested) or they get you to just conform and accept what you were given. It's like being bullied, bullies don't usually expect the victim to come back at them the same way that the bully came at them.

No way man! Caracals are much too flashy, not to mention gaunt and angular.

They saw us doing ear tufts so they were like, "Oh yeah, let's do that but LONGER!"

They are like the people who think if one ring looks good then it would be really cool to wear huge rings on ALL your fingers.

Usually

Or do you like to be the same or copy everyone else?
I like to be correct and to know the truth.. If someone else has a truth then i am glad to be in agreement with them on the issue..

Do you do your best to fit in or do you like standing out?
I don't TRY to fit in and i don't TRY to stand out.. I strive to be standing on the truth..

do you like agreeing with everyone else or do you always have a contrary view...
I greatly enjoy it when others agree with the truth and i am in agreement with them..

or are you so extreme that you will deliberately pick out something different just to be different?
No.. That's the wrong Spirit and a very self destructive attitude to have..

Its a funny thing, that in while we might think we are being non-conformist actually we are always trying to conform...
Being a conformist to the will of God is indeed a Good thing..

and doesnt God say he wants us to conform to the image of Christ? So what does conformity mean for you?
Conformity is trusting in and embracing the teachings of Another..
Conformity is being a follower of Another..

If that other is the LORD then conformity is the right path to pursue..
If that other is another human being then you will end up being destroyed..

hmm on the church issue, I dont know about the ones labelling themselves (and priding themselves on) being 'non-conformist' can square that with scripture....

But then again, wasnt the Church of england initially not conforming themselves to the catholic church?!

Then theres 'reform' churches.

Its quite confusing.

In every day life as we go about day to day we want to be more like Jesus do we not?

In California they are hyper aggressive with it and technically you did conform because they got you to go in for the juror selection with no response from you to the summons. Because we are in these covid times they just skipped over the juror selection process and automatically put me on a trial for whatever date that they assigned. My aim was to get excused from having to enter the building because i want absolutely nothing to do with it, so right off the bat my answer to them was "NO" in the form of a letter.

But ladies like cats with small angular heads, you're not officially catting if you don't have a small regal angular cat head.
With that said i got my hair clippers on the lowest setting with no guard on it, help me to help you... why are you running? lol.

Very conformist: conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29), who is the image of God (Colossians 1:15).

How conformist or non-conformist am I? Well, what other options are available?
