The torture and death of Christ so that you would be perfect in the Eyes of our Holy God? Does your life reflect that you appreciate what Jesus willingly did on the cross?

Of course . . . I've got to do a better job myself. It's time to become more Holy and less self-centered.

The time is right now, that we would make a commitment to change. So I'm making that commitment right now.

Dear Powerful, Almighty Lord, Powerful God . . . We come to you in total humility, realizing that we are nothing compared to you in your presence. Lord, we pray that your Holy Spirit would awaken within those of whom you have chosen, that you would remove the Veil that causes one to be Spiritually Lame, Blind, and Deaf to your walk of Life. Awaken your Holy Elect so that they might Hear and Understand you. Take our stony Hearts, Lord. May your Son Jesus perform His Holy Operation upon our Hearts and Circumcise them of the Sinful Way that crushes and condemns us. Remove this Spiritual Curse so that the Veil would drop and that we would Know and See your Truly Radiant Glory.

Give us your Holy Spirit so that we would Walk in your New and Holy Ways. Give us this ability to change so that your Glory would be reflected in our speech, in our writing, in our daily lives, and in our ways of thinking. Cause us to change, Lord, for we are at your Holy Feet realizing that we are only alive because you allow us to exist. For, you giveth and taketh life . . . no one else can do these things, and we believe in your Resurrection Power. In the Name of your Holy Son, Jesus . . . Amen.

I don't have it in myself to become more holy, however, I am in agreement with you in the prayer.

I don't have it in myself to become more holy, however, I am in agreement with you in the prayer.
HE is within you brother

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6:19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

you didn’t have it in you before you received the Holy Spirit but now holiness is found in pursuit

“And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:13-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I would suggest however that this is an example of first self righteousness and then secondly holiness

“Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭18:10-14‬ ‭

Holiness is something that has to come as a gift from him , it comes when we are humble and truthful with God. It is the result of his mercy and our faith in his word.

often we refer to the process of “sanctification “ what that is is the process of our sins being removed and his honliness being imparted to fill the voids

I’m with you it’s not in me , but he is in us both

No one does . . . hence the prayer. I must not have made myself clear.
God does desire a want-to-be-holy-for-the-right-reason attitude. We cannot arrive, but it is good to strive to be more like Jesus every day. This is growth.

James
4:6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse [your] hands, [ye] sinners; and purify [your] hearts, [ye] double minded.
4:9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and [your] joy to heaviness.
4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
4:11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of [his] brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

I believe my heart is in the right place and could be even more in tune with God.

What I mean by that sentence is I unfortunately see my life mirroring King David and the Disciple/Apostle Peter. These men loved God with all of their heart and mind, but were still very human.

King David is said to be a man after God's own heart and yet he was the bloodiest king, God refused to let him build the Temple his son Solomon built, he lusted after a married man's wife, forced himself upon her, got her pregnant, murdered her husband, then tried to lie about it.

Yeshua called Peter, Satan, told Peter to get thee Behind Him, had to visit Peter [in a dream] to explain foods and Gentiles were accepted equally by God, Peter was rebuked because he ate/prayed/worshiped with Gentiles and then tried to hide it, and we see Paul Rebuking Peter.

I am a continual work in progress and believe I am so much more through Christ who is in me. I see God doing things in my life others tell me they wished God was doing in theirs. I am not striving to be better or more complete, I am striving at being me who in all of his faults and failures somehow manages to allow God to do great things from. My prayer is simple: Use me God for Your Glory and Your Honor no matter how others may view me!

It is refreshing to hear this recounting of King David and his exploits contrasry to the Law from another. Yet this is the one credited with having written down many of the Psalms. I believe Psalm 32 explains well tome , just how it is that David remained always in the favor of out Father. Blessed is the man against whom God does not hold the guilt of his iniquity.

We must strive to be as he, faithful that we are forgiven no matter what. Knowing Jesus Yeshua is the
Way to realize this freedom.

I love king David, in fact, I was named after him. And like you, I feel that my life reflects his life in many ways. I differ, however, in my view of him, for I am absolutely thrilled to relate to him!

Did you know that Urijah was a Hittite?

2 Samuel 11:3 DBY - ". . . and David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Urijah the Hittite?"

And what is unique about this? God wanted all Hittites to be wiped from the face of the earth (though later caused there to be left a remnant for later battle and war).

Deuteronomy 20:17 NLT - "You must completely destroy the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, just as the LORD your God has commanded you."

Below, Deut 7 shows us that there are actual Seven Nations that are called to be destroyed.

Deuteronomy 7:1 NLT - "When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are about to enter and occupy, he will clear away many nations ahead of you: the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. These seven nations are greater and more numerous than you."

The above verses changed my view of David. Did he really murder a man? No, he didn't.

And Solomon? What was so great about Solomon? If God wouldn't allow David to build the Temple, why Solomon? Certainly, David was infinitely better and greater in his sense of Holiness than Solomon. Solomon was disgusting.

1 Kings 11:33 NLT - "For Solomon has abandoned me and worshiped Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians; Chemosh, the god of Moab; and Molech, the god of the Ammonites. He has not followed my ways and done what is pleasing in my sight. He has not obeyed my decrees and regulations as David his father did."

Solomon abandoned God and began supporting a false god that dealt in child sacrifice. The wisest man alive? Turning on god and tossing childing into fire isn't all that inspiring. David, the king, however, is very inspiring, for he is the Father of Christ, and Jesus is the Son of David!

Matthew 1:1 KJV - "The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham."

This genealogy is very important . . . and this includes Abraham, our Father of Faith (and who is the Grandfather of Jesus.)

One final thought on David: Was he still "bloody" after he became king? I haven't studied this, but my recollection of Scripture does not lend to the idea that he was fighting battles with his own hand, and if so, I doubt that we'd find many. If I recall correctly, David was busy wiping out those of the Seven Nations whom God called to be destroyed . . . all of them, including children and animals.

Again . . . just food for thought.

Anyway, I'm not disagreeing with how you feel, but am offering some ideas that help to shape the way I feel about the likes of David and Solomon.

Amen brother . you seem from an observation one seeking and following after the lord by faith love your post you identifying with David seemed appropriate , and remarkable to Me after reading your post

Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight:

that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭51:1-7, 9-13, 15-17‬ ‭

Just keep pressing on brother , if you thought you were a finished work you’d have reason to be complacent , because you acknowledge the truth your a work in progress like we all are , it offers hope in great measure , perseverance is the word in my mind

It seems only a sinner who acknowledges the truth would ever pray that type of prayer and request that type of help from God you are an encouragement thanks for being open and honest God bless and keep and teach you well

God is so Merciful and gives me such an abundance of Grace because I know for a fact I do not deserve any of it. If my eternity is just spent weeping and kissing the feet of Yeshua, it would be the greatest reward for all He chooses to do for me. I am nothing without Him and I know this and it amazes me to see his Blessings upon my life.

Hmmm . . . I just re-read what I had written and it was not good. I meant to say that David was busy raiding and killing [before] God anointed him as king. Big difference. Oh my! This means that I don't believe that David was fighting bloody battles [after] he became king.

Then there are the misspelled words . . . I must not have been wearing my glasses. :D (And this crazy cold of mine doesn't help, either.)

@AandW - Hey my friend, check out the story of David and Shimei. It is amazing how David handled that situation. And although David was being murdered for the Life of humanity, we can see why, perhaps, David is considered the Father of Christ. I'm referring to when Peter spoke of Christ, in that we should follow his steps, that when struck, He did not strike back, nor curse, when cursed upon. David saw through the strife of this world and recognized God and His Mysterious Plan. Check it out! It's amazing. :D

I hope that you are just as amazed at David as I was. The first time I read that story (only a few years ago), I was blown away that no one had ever shown me how Jesus was following the footsteps of His Father . . . king David. Unreal! The way David handled that entire situation . . . that's how I want to be, but I am not. I must improve so that I can be a better reflection of the one whom I was named after. I am honored to hold this name! :D

You go far out on a limb to turn a blind eye to David's sin. God did not do this. God sent a prophet to pin David to the wall. If David had not made all the right moves at that point, the story of His life would read much like king Saul's, imho. David was not protected by Calvinism any more than anyone here on CC is.

Here is the REAL story, the way GOD saw it..

2 Samuel
12:1 And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.
12:2 The rich [man] had exceeding many flocks and herds:
12:3 But the poor [man] had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.
12:4 And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.
12:5 And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, [As] the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this [thing] shall surely die:
12:6 And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.
12:7 And Nathan said to David, Thou [art] the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;
12:8 And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if [that had been] too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.
12:9 Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife [to be] thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
12:10 Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.
12:11 Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give [them] unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
12:12 For thou didst [it] secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.
12:13 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.
12:14 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also [that is] born unto thee shall surely die.
