Life before TBI is nothing like life afterwards. The person you fell in love with and built a life with is gone. You are not suppose to compare your pre and post TBI. You know things will be different but NOT EVERY SINGLE PART!

Hour after hour, day after day you pray that God will just let your spouse live and remember you and the life you have built. You sit, eat, sleep, and love them with all your heart but it doesn't seem to matter. The only emotional comfort happens when you make it happen. There are no smiles, no jokes, no laughing. They don't notice and don't care how you look or if you spent days making or doing something for them. You sleep in the same bed but never touch. No compliments or encouragement. They won't tell you how to fix it. They don't show any emotion and get upset if you do.
Foods they loved, they now hate.
Foods they hated, they now love.
Living together and totally alone. Even a touch on the arm would give you hope for tomorrow.

I have a friend who's wife was in a horrific car crash that suffers from TBI with a healthy dose of PTSD on top. He's struggled for years with this very scenario.

Dementia is similar except it usually happens over years.

You have told a very sad story and it's quite a lonely story too. Hopefully, you will find comfort, support, and understanding from the members of this site. Glad to have you as part of our family. Welcome to CC.

PTSD is a constant and meds don't help much. He gets mad if I remind him to take his meds so he doesn't doesn't have seizures (from TBI) and won't take them as instructed. I keep praying and hoping he will suddenly appear, but no. He never raised his voice ever and now he even yells at the tv. I even make sure to give at least 3 compliments each day hoping it will be contagious, nothing.

So terribly sorry to hear you are going through this. No advice. Just prayer.

Holy Father please strengthen your daughter. Give her joy in the knowledge of You. And her incredible faithful to her husband.

Let her feel Your Presence in unmistakable ways. And please restore to her the man she married.

In Jesus Name I pray.

I am so sorry that you are going through this. As a nurse, I’ve seen some bad cases of this, even dementia. People just aren’t themselves and it is devastating for family. I wish I had some ideas, some coping mechanisms. Would he be open to the idea of Christian counseling? If not, maybe that is something that you could do alone. I’ll be praying for strength for you.
