https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-02-22/ukraine-russia-putin-biden-must-prove-he-can-lead/100850066

World War two was facilitated by Europe's refusal to take action to defend against a resurgent and belligerent Germany. Now Russia, under Vladimir Putin, is banging the drums of war, making up pretexts to wage war against Ukraine. Europe and the US responds by much hand wringing and threats of sanctions. The meat in this terrible sandwich is Ukraine, seeking for action before Putin invades in full.

Hitler was briefly placated by Europe giving into Hitler's demands. He invaded Sudetenland, Czechoslovakia and annexed Austria. Europe stood by. Britain made Poland a red line. Hitler understandably assumed that Britain would fold once more. As we know, somehow the British developed a spine and went to war against Germany.

It is hard to fathom what a difficult decision this was. Britain had a magnificent navy and a substantial air force. The standing army was less than 1 million, compared to France's over 4 million. It is obvious from the first two years of the war that Germany was far too powerful for the rest of Europe to overcome. Yet overcome, the British did. And that they survived at all was by God's grace and Hitler's folly.

We are now in a strange position compared with Europe in WW2. There has been relative peace for decades. America is still the military powerhouse of the world. Europe and Britain have decent military capabilities. The question is, will anyone stand up for Ukraine against the Russian bully? There are no end of sanction threats and UN resolutions. None of them have had any impact on Putin. It seems that few learn anything from history. Appeasement did not work with Hitler and seems just as ineffective with Putin.

If Putin conquers Ukraine, there will indeed be a "new world order", but it won't be what George Bush Snr envisaged. China will be emboldened to invade Taiwan. America's reputation in the world has already been tarnished by defeats in Vietnam, Afghanistan and the disasters that are Iraq and Lebanon. If Putin and Xi prevail, the US is finished.

I hope Americans see how serious all this is. They kept their head in the sand at the start of WW2. I trust that the church is praying that Putin backs down and Xi is not emboldened to invade Taiwan. This could easily be the start of the tribulation. You think COVID restrictions are tough? You've seen nothing yet.

C'mon man, we know the answer to this. No. Germany has already vetoed any NATO response and the US has basically said they will support NATO.

They will let Russia take Ukraine and hope that satisfies them, they'll also toss them Latvia and Estonia. Appeasement has worked before (for Hitler), so clearly they will try this again.

Russia will not stop with Ukraine. Oh well, wouldn't want to be Poland.

USA is in no mood for war and the POTUS is only interested in his own popularity. So - no. Putin chose his timing wisely.

America is on the decline because of their shameful generations. God has decreed to judge America with his Four Sore Judgements in this decade to see if they will acknowledge that they have been wrong and acknowledge that powerful and correct is the God that judges them. If even one of the generations of shame will make the acknowledgement and forsake their evil ways, then the Lord God, full of mercy as he is, will spare them and even restore them and strengthen them for a little longer, just like he did in the days of Hezekiah and Josiah when their generation did the same. But if they continue to harden their hearts and double down in all their severe errors, and if they continue to fight against the judgements of God with their earthly means, then let it be told to them A Sword Cometh, even the Sword of God, and neither they nor their children will escape from it.

We are only a super power when we have strong leaders.
So the answer is simple.

Good point, we have Biden who use to drive an 18 wheeler, worked in a coal mine, and helped free Mandela. Then he went to the Vatican and pulled a Beavis and Butthead! He has friends in Russia, China, Big Tech as well as opening wide his arms to Cartel members coming into our country to sell the drugs. So if your leader is a lying dog faced pony soldier what is your country?

"Remaining a Superpower" - Let's think Hypothetically:

A. Let's suppose there was a country, where the people were so crazy... that none of them could even tell if they were boys or girls.

B. Then let's suppose they all got together, and intentionally elected a president with obvious dementia... just for laughs.

C. If there was a country like that, so remarkably divorced from reality.... I would think the concept of "remaining a superpower" is not at the top of their "fixit" list.

You certainly couldn't mean popularity with the American people?? He and the rest of the elitist government could care less about what Americans think.

You ask if anyone will stand up to Russia for it's bullying of the Ukraine. I ask you a question. The Ukraine has the third largest armed forces in the region, only behind Russia and France. The Ukranians have been equipped with US and European weaponary. They have a powerful military. The Ukraine has been invaded and so far Ukrainian forces have shown no resistance. Are they expecting others to protect them. Why aren't the Ukraine military forces resisting the Russian invasion? Are the Ukrainians another example of Afghanistans who want others to fight for themselves but won't offer any resistance on their own? The Ukrainians have been invaded, but not a peep from their armed forces. Do they want other countries to defend them? What's wrong with this picture?

If the Ukrainians don't want to defend themselves, them let them fall to the will of the Russians. The USA, nor other allies, should help the Ukraninians if they don't want to defend theirselves.

The Russians have entered Ukraine territory and the Ukraine military hasn't fired a shot. And so, the rest of the world shouldn't support the Ukraine. If they aren't willing to defend themselves, neither am I, nor with the USA military or anyone else. Remember how the Afghans abandoned all the USA military support. They weren't willing to fight for themselves. If the Ukranians aren't willing to fight, so be it.

Russia has nukes and Ukraine does not. Russia has 3 times the population. Ukrainians are fighting in the occupied provinces. WW2 France had an army of 4.7 million. Germany wiped the floor with them in a week. There is a reason why NATO exists. It's called Russia.

The U.S. will likely move towards a downward trajectory to how Europe is now (unproductive, inefficient, etc.). This type of downward spiral seems inevitable, as is seen with past great empires that declined due to a variety of reasons including moral decay, lack of patriotism, economic crisis, and having less influence in world affairs.

How about a DELIBERATE AND MALICIOUS policy to make America into a third-world hellhole? No country has done this deliberately to itself -- except the US under Biden.

Correct. It is hard to understand the Ukrainian mindset. They have been in denial all this time, claiming that Russia has no evil intentions. But the facts have been different. However the Ukrainians should be dealing with their own issues and the USA should stay out of this.

The U.S. had been a strong superpower (still a superpower, but not as strong) because of military prowess unmatched by other countries. We had what is called "hegemonic" power. However, China has a strong military now (probably a very close second) and so they can exert power and influence. We also owe so much money to China, so our hands are tied that way too. We kind of have to do what China wants. Other countries are also seeking closer ties with China, so we have less influence with them as well.

there never was a "united states" but america which has power to keep the peace when they act like one nation under God and more like a commonwealth country like Canada. america is still a commonwealth nation because the issues did not justify a war with England. Nor did they justify a rogue coalition of states. but they have acted in helpful ways at times to counter oppressive regimes and rogue ideologies that threatened the world.

1984. Three major world superpowers, playing games with each other but always taking more and more freedom from the people.

Don't worry. The American Establishment WANTS war with Russia, they will probably find a way to spark it.
