If I GIVE a set of 5 beds to a family with 5 kids... the kids will ask their mom or dad expectantly "Where'd you get these [matching] beds?!" The parents will probably be honest and say "A nice man gave them to us..." At which point the focus switches from the parents to the "nice" person. And the hope for future good fortune of a similar nature switches to "Finding another nice person to give us something we need". The kids are starting to learn to look for handouts instead of how to use what they have to better themselves, and the parents look a bit inept in the eyes of their children.

On the other hand, if I SELL the beds to a family with 5 kids... the kids will ask their mom or dad expectantly "Where'd you get these [matching] beds?!" The parents can honestly say "We bought them from a guy for only 10 bucks apiece!" Now the parents look like financial geniuses, and the kids can go to school with their heads held high thinking "Some people have more than we do, but I bet their parents can't find deals like MY parents do". And their internal focus will tend towards using their resources to search out similar good purchases. Which means they feel empowered to overcome their adversities with skill rather than hand-outs.

Love in Jesus,
Kelby
@Godsgirl83 Plus, it's actually easier (and wiser) to increase the amount of skills you have and use, rather than trying to increase the amount of handouts you receive.

We’ll, let’s look at 1 Corinthians 13 in context…

Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:8-13 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=1 Corinthians 13:8-13&version=NKJV

I agree that the Word of God is PERFECT but, that’s not what Paul is referring to in 1 Corinthians 13.

It’s Love, GOD’S PERFECT LOVE in us. For when He (Jesus Christ the PERFECT ONE) appears, we shall appear also just like Him.

That hasn’t happened yet….so, NONE of the gifts of the Holy Spirit have ceased but they will when God’s Perfect Love is fully in us….at Christ’s return.
This text is not that difficult. That which is perfect is come means when we see him face to face. We won't need the Gifts in that day.

@GRACE_ambassador

8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

This is not about when the last book of the Bible (Revelation was written) It is not possible that Paul was referring to the New Testament there is no indication that Paul had any idea that he was even writing the New Testament. He was referring to the time when we will see him Face to face. Now we know in part, but then we will be perfect.
We know that is what Paul was talking about because he spoke of this event of perfection that he was looking forward to in another passage. If you want to find another verse where this "that which is perfect is come" might be mentioned, you wouldn't start with a verse by another author in the old testament that refers to the scripture as perfect. You would look to see if Paul had spoken about this thing before. And he did.

As you can see in Phil 3: Paul tells us that in his mind that which is perfect is when he attains the resurrection from the dead

8Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: 10That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 11If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
2Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

So here we have an example where the same writer of 1 Cor 13 has mentioned before that he is looking forward to a state where he will attain perfection post ressurrection of the dead. Therefore we can conclude that what Paul had in mind when he said that when that which is perfect is come was that state of perfection post resurrection when we will see him FACE TO FACE (1 Cor 13:12) and we will know in full and not in part and in that day we will not need to operate in the gift of tongues and have an interpretation of tongues, nor will we need to have a word of knowledge, word of wisdom, or prophesy as these are all the gifts that are ordained to help us now, while we are in this state of imperfection and partial knowledge but not needed when we are in that state of perfection post resurrection and see him Face to Face.

If you Google "what is the interpretation of "that which is perfect is come" you will find plenty of scholarly articles explaining why applying that to when the last book of the New Testament was written is a horrible hermeneutic that all scholars but a few reject. What I mean is that all your non pentecostal evangelical scholars who are indeed self described cessationist and believe that the gifts have ceased because we don't need them since we have the Word of God believe that because of other reasons than this passage. They believe that the way I just explained it is the correct interpretation. They base their view on why the gifts have ceased on other reasons than this passage and do not believe it is intellectually honest to force an interpretation of that which is perfect is come to the writing of the New Testament as being what Paul was trying to communicate because we know it was not.

oh Sophie, if there was any good word in due season that I could speak to you that would give you life, I would say it…but, your heart is too full of anger towards me..you could not receive it.

So, I will speak to our Father in Heaven instead….

Dear Heavenly Father,

Have mercy on Sophie and me, whatever has hardened her heart towards me, please remove it and any hardness in my heart towards her, remove it also. We ask for Your Love to flow freely in us.

We love You Heavenly Father! In the Name and power and authority of Jesus Christ, we pray, amen and amen.

............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

here are the words of Jesus for your benefit as they apply to all who have accepted Him and heed His words

9I am the gate. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved. He will come in and go out and find pasture. 10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness. 11I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.…John 10

you are anxious for nothing as my Savior has already given me eternal life. believe me, I am assured that nothing false shall touch me or mine

you might be careful of that thief though, telling you otherwise

OK, this is off topic but I just got to see something AWESOME happen:

I'd stepped away because my wife was on the phone with one of our daughters who has several children. The one who is about 12 wanted to speak with me. He's on the autistic spectrum and doesn't socialize much so it was kind of a big deal.

Well, it's video chat and on speaker so 'mom' is in on the conversation too. Soon the topic turns to God because 'mom' had a dream she wanted to share with me. 'Son' was apparently curious so 'mom' asked me to share a dream that I'd had. I chose a short one that later came to pass word for word, image for image. Son is trying to process this.

Mom starts explaining how God had shown her glimpses of several places before she moved to the state she now lives in... against family advice. When in that new state, she sees the places she'd been shown by God, she knows she was in the right place.

For me this was really exciting because:
  1. Son is very deliberate, literal and facts-only so he'd had a hard time with the concept of God.
  2. This is the first time I'd heard 'mom' speak so much about God to her kids... and she was doing a really good job.
The most awesome thing though (in my humor oriented brain) was that she (for reals) explained how even if you make mistakes along the way God can keep you and have you in the right place "whether you are an astronaut in space, or living in a van down by the river". LOLOLOL

That made my night.

This is the type of uninformed generalised comment that damages your credibility. Most Pentecostals and Charismatics I know are godly people who love Christ, faithful to His Word, and who worship God in spirit and in truth. It is a concern when you show a lack of love for Christian brethren by denigrating them in this way. Jesus commanded us to love one another, and John says that he who does not love does not know God for God is love. Paul persecuted the church, and when Jesus confronted him on he Damascus Road He asked, "Why are you persecuting Me?" This shows me that denigrating Charismatic believers, along with any other Christians, is actually denigrating Christ Himself. That is why you need a change of heart toward Charismatic believers and make a bit of an effort to get to know them better.
By the end of this age, brother, many believers will be led by the hand in peace to the executioner by men like me. Wake up - you are in a self induced sleep. What do you think is coming upon the churches because of generations of madness and falsehood and a vile parade of hypocrisy where harm has been hidden and falsehood pressed like a strangling garment? You really are a blind guide. There will be mercy where there can be mercy - but there will be judgement by the hand of God when he opens the gate for many of His children to be handed over. And you speak of credibility. Madness.

It was a qualified statement:

If you are concerned for how I appear in saying it then that may be no different to the brother who was apparently concerned for my supposed credibility. It is a reference to the great tribulation after the first rapture of the saints. Some will be taken to be with the Lord by the sword - some will have already been taken by dressing themselves in readiness. Some will be preserved or hidden right to the very end. Only the rebellious house will see the sword - just as by their hand of rebellion they heralded the Man of Sin.

Ok,given your past with regards to your learning and educational levels,I would say by sheer aggression you overcame that set back in life!

I can see you're a person gifted in expression of words.
I myself love words.

I might address the fact though when you reply to someone seeking understanding, that you simply " spit it out " in common understanding and words.
The above answer is so muddled,I've come away none the wiser.

Some things simply cannot be stated plainly, sister. But the answer I gave you is not in the least muddled. Save yourself the need to psychologise my person. I won't yield. I answered your question out of courtesy. The man I wrote it to was the brother I was expressly speaking to. Let him make his own groans if he will.

Open chat forums is not a private place for conversations!

Anyone May address a post of their choosing.

Unfortunately, for me,the more you rebuke me the more inclined I am to analyze YOU!

I have picked up on some things you have let slip not knowing ( as I have told you) ,I am stubborn when intrigued.

Thank you for the courtesy but I'd rather have an honest answer.

I care not whether you, as you say, yield or not. I am trying to discern if those with much speech are really a part of MY family or simply are SHOUTING THE LOUDEST WHEN THEY SAY NOTHING AT ALL!

Thank you.

I care little, sister if you deem me to be the very spawn of hell. Feel free to express whatever things I have let slip (as you say) in the same public gaze as my own comments are. You asked politely when you qualified your asking with may I inquire &c - so as I have said, I answered out of politeness. I didn't say you didn't have a right to ask did I? I did say that I responded to a brother in the comment you asked politely about. You should try to settle your sense of what words actually mean before allowing your stubborn intrigue to get the better of you. As to the rebuke you say I made - I didn't make a rebuke to anyone by answering a question as I did. Lastly, I didn't lie and neither gave a dishonest answer.

So now that the bag is open you can get back to doing your best to discern whether I am a part of your family. And CS1 can support you seeing as he agrees with your meaning,

Are we not to know those of the household of faith?
I believe we are told by Paul MANY times to be aware,to know those that.............are among you.
We too are to greet one another with an HOLY kiss, with salutations of peace and love.

Expressions and the way thereof tell a lot more of people beliefs than we think!
Some are straight forward, blunt open, honest, while others cloak what's said in innuendos, shadows, and clouds of obscurity.

When discussing words of importance, I very much like to be blunt and state it as it is..........no misinterpretations or confusion results this way.
When I want to be off hand at someone then I may speak in riddles,mis-direction ,slight of words much like a magician.

How can we come together in agreement if we act like all we know is the Tower of Babel.

I believe that the apostle Paul said this, sister.

“I know that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves men will arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.”

You need to be looking to the household of faith and the world - because those who come amongst the flocks are wolves and those who arise from within the midst are of your own selves - but they are not called wolves. But they do speak perverse things. When I qualify for either of these two designations be sure to tell the whole forum. You appeal to others to garner your own need to test others whom you are incapable of testing. As for the tower of babel - you chose the perfect thread to say it, sister.

I suppose that we cannot engage as fellow servants.

I agree with your wolf thoughts as I myself have talked of such recently but I do wonder on those " among ourselves " whether the sheep can turn into wolves! ( yes they can for if we neglect so great a salvation......)

I appeal to no one except God to test the spirits that live, breath and talk among us.
If everything I post to you is subject to questioning whether or not I'm trying to EXPOSE , then I presume we may be done.

Thank you for the courteous exchange even though I've received the inferences of veiled thoughts !
