1. The Holy Spirit baptises us into Christ
2. If we will ask, Christ baptises us in the Holy Spirit
3. We should be baptised in water.

Only the first baptism, into Christ, is involuntary. We must choose Spirit and Water baptism.

Ephesians 4:5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism.
There's one true baptism, one that unites us with Christ. That said, I was baptized as a baby, but I didn't feel that was the true baptism because I didn't have any understanding of what was going on, and it wasn't my decision, so i was baptized again by full immersion when I was 11.
I believe there's a scripture that says being baptized is like killing Jesus again, but I can't find it, so maybe I'm wrong.

Are you thinking of Hebrews chapter 6?

In the words of Jesus Christ

Act 1:5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

The word but is a contrasting conjunction, it sets in opposition that which was previously spoken.

In simple terms ….when the greater came …the lesser was done away with.

Water today is…. a feel good symbolic performance …basically, symbolism over substance. It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t help, it doesn’t change a thing...spiritually, with God.

As XmasBaby stated in Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

Either God means what He says, or He doesn’t.
When God says ONE, He means one. He does not mean 1 with provisions. There are some who try to split the one to mean…. you are baptized in and…. then you are baptized with….No!…. one is 1….. And although “Three Dog Night” said it was the loneliest number ….it is not! because it puts you in an exclusive membership…. The One body of Christ.

There is one and only one baptism of the Holy Spirit and it comes when one by faith believes and accepts Christ as their savior.
At that time a person becomes a son of God receiving all the benefits and blessing and chastising of a son, and will forever be a son of God
Water baptism, immersion, is the first step in a life of obedience and service.

your thinking of this most likely

“For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,

If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭6:4-6‬ ‭

which when you understand what baptism is makes sense to how you understood it it’s like crucifying Christ again for our sins again but he only came once to bear our sins for us

“John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭1:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

often Christians don’t hear about repentance at all these days and don’t understand baptism in water according to hearing and believing is about repentance and remission of sins.

there is an example of a group that had been baptized by John before Christ began preaching the gospel , yet weren’t around to hear Jesus preaching the gospel so they werent baptized in his name and we’re re baptized.

“And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭19:3-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Many don’t know what it means or understand it’s relationship to repentance and remission of sins. Or accept that it is related tonjesus and believing the gospel.

They often think baptism of the spirit is for remission of sins and therefore negates the need for repentance and baptism for remission of sins in water according to what God said beforehand in the ot.

we need to understand baptism for repentance and remission of sins in his name. And baptism of the spirit which completes baptism.

if we understood it is about repentance and remission of sins everyone would get baptized ASAP and believe the gospel and receive the spirit . but sadly doctrine has gotten all Mottled together and confused by the new age teachers who attempt to refute the scripture to sell Books saying different things

it’s strange but many would rather read and believe a modern authors book they sell for profit , than the Bible.

If we didn’t know our repentance or believing the gospel and got baptized blindly I think a second baptism understanding is acceptable

Precious friend, A Very Warm Welcome to Chat. Biblically? = ZERO! ie:

God's Context of:

Prophecy/Law for ISRAEL, under the gospel of the kingdom ("faith Without works
is DEAD!) = "he that believeth AND IS baptized shall be saved," Correct?

►►► The Twelve Were Sent to {water} baptize! ◄◄◄

The TWO Main (of 12) baptismS =

A) water, For remission of sins/induction into Israeli "priesthood!":
(Matthew_3:5-6; Mark_1:4; Luke_3:3; John_1:31; Especially Luke 7:29-30;
Acts_10:37; Matthew_28:19; Mark_16:16; Acts_2:38, 22:16; Ezekiel_36:25)
+
B) WITH The Holy Spirit, Poured Out By CHRIST, for power, signs And wonders!
(Isaiah_44:3; Matthew_3:11; Mark_1:8, 16:17-18;
Luke_24:49; Acts_2:17-18, 38, 8:15-17, 11:16)

"Remains Consistent with God's Context" of Prophecy/Law, Correct?

Rightly Divided (2 Timothy 2:15) From “Things That DIFFER!” {online}:

God's Other Context Of: Mystery/GRACE! =

our "apostle to the Gentiles" for The Body Of CHRIST, with The
Gospel Of The GRACE Of God! (Salvation = GRACE Through faith
Apart FROM all works) = Eph 2:8-9; Rom 3:24; Titus 3:5; And MERCY!

►►► Paul Was Not Sent to {water} baptize! Why Not?: ◄◄◄

Today: Only ONE Baptism = "BY" The ONE Spirit = God's OPERATION,
Spiritually
Identifying members In (The ONE Body Of) CHRIST!!
(Ephesians 4:5; Colossians_2:12; Galatians_3:27;
Romans_6:3-4; ►►► 1 Corinthians 12:13 ◄◄◄)

"Remains Consistent with God's Context" of Mystery/GRACE, Correct?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conclusion: God's ONE Baptism Today? = ONE!

Is it not Possible That God's Answer Of "No water baptism, for
us Today," Under HIS Pure GRACE, absolutely vanquishes Satan's
{Many Severely DIVIDED denominations?} Confusion into oblivion!?

We get the most important baptism the instant we yield body and soul to Jesus. This is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. All other baptisms after this are done as signs, symbols, and remembrances pointing back to that original baptism of the Holy Spirit. They are an outward sign pointing back to an inward change. They are not critical to maintaining your salvation. Salvation is a very simple thing since Jesus shed His blood for us on the Cross.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Anyone who was baptized as an infant should disregard that. Believers are to be baptized only once, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. And since water baptism is symbolic of death, burial, and resurrection, it must be by immersion.

" Only the first baptism, into Christ, is involuntary. We must choose Spirit and Water baptism." -- Gideon
This is not according to Scripture. Spirit baptism is supernatural and the issue of choosing it does not arise. Those who repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Spirit baptism). As to water baptism, that is A COMMAND (not an option). So the issue of choosing it also does not apply.

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

it isn’t in opposition they compliment and complete one another.

“I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭3:11‬ ‭

There’s never a point where one replaces the other this is a group of Gentiles long afterwards

“And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

….Peter said “ Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭10:42-45, 47-48‬ ‭KJV‬‬

they were born of spirit and water They compliment one another ones about having our sins remitted in Jesus death the other is about being born anew in his spirit. Excuse of his resurrection and promise to give the spirit to believers

Being "born of" something is not the same thing as being "immersed in" something.

Being 'born again' is 'spiritual'.

Being 'baptized' in water is 'physical'.

The two do not mix.

Related - yes. Same thing - no.

In 1 Corinthians 12:13, the word 'baptized' - meaning 'immersed' - is referring to our inclusion / insertion / integration into the body of Christ.

Even then, that itself is not 'born of' or 'born again' - it is a kind of aftermath / outcome / result of being born-again.

Being 'born again' is one thing only - receiving the Holy Spirit of God - being 'indwelt' by the Holy Spirit.

These 4 things are different:

1) indwelling of the HS
2) baptism by the HS
3) baptism of the HS
4) filled with the HS

#1 & #2 are very closely associated.

#2 is a direct result of #1 - but, is not [identically] the same thing.

What the verse is saying is that - by-and-because-of the Holy Spirit (indwelling us) - we are all made a part of the body of Christ.

In-of-itself, [this verse] has absolutely nothing [directly] to do with water baptism.

Luke 11:13 "Give the Holy Spirit to those who ask".

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the new birthright of every believer. Not all receive the gift. I pondered the issue for about 4 years. I was spooked by the talk of the "Holy Ghost", which is how most Christians spoke of the Holy Spirit. I knew about ghosts and none of them were holy. When I finally realised that I was lacking spiritual power that others had, I began to seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Others have testified to a similar experience. Baptists are more likely to receive the Holy Spirit at the time of salvation because that's what the Baptist denomination teaches.

the apostles must not have known that water baptism was irrelevant

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. …..Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

….And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭10:44, 47-48‬ ‭

To have faith we need hear something and believe it then we have a reason to act on it. like this

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,

and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:38, 40-41‬ ‭

if we reject it and explain why it doesn’t apply it’s because we don’t believe it is true. Look at this fellow he was a believer

“Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭8:35-38‬ ‭KJV‬‬

it seems like either the Bible is teaching irrelevant doctrine that we should reject or we should believe it and get baptized for the remission of sins in christs name through his death for our sins

“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:3-4, 6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Receiving the holy spirit is a gift given by Jesus it’s what he promised them . Water baptism is what God said to do in christs name and he would remit our sins because we’re acting on his promise to do so ( faith )

there’s a relationship for certain we need to receive the holy spirit and get baptized in water for remission of sins in his name

“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”

I was reading on this subject the other day.
It seems that it was the eunuch’s idea to be baptized with water and does not appear that Phillip was initiating it.

Acts 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

And the record in Acts 10:45 etc, with Peter and the gentiles, where Peter baptized them with water after they were filled and spoke in tongues. Then in chapter 11 Peter recounts the words of Jesus.

Acts 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

Another record I saw in Acts 19, you get the same impression of downplaying water and uplifting the baptism of the spirit.

Acts 19:3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
