Life Feels Like high School

I LOVED high school. It was a place I could escape from my reality. I worked at night, went to school during the day, got active in drama, music and sports and attended an active church youth group, so I was rarely home. It was perfect.

was it better than home then

I think I liked home more it was comfortable and familiar, my high school had too many students and I didnt know many, only hung round with my 'home room' class and only one girl actually lived near me. I went cos thats where my older sister went first, but I almost never saw her at school. Everyone was kind of segregated. Even the boys and girls didnt hang out together, though it was a co ed school. It was actually a strange set up.

One year I was in a musical but otherwise the sports werent that interesting and I couldnt afford any instument, al, those extra curriculr activities required money and time, which we never had.

My bongos were loaned to me by our youth pastor.

Mine was boxing, chess and choir and active youth group. I dated the priciples twin daughters, so I was on a first name basis with everyone in the Office. I was called down a few times --- one time for a Jesus lives t-shirt. One time, I pulled off the Senior Prank without trying. I worked after school as a Janitor to earn money for my 196? Ford Mustang. One day I was called at home to come early. There was under the building tunnels and two sets of wires were pulled out of a tunnel. A set of wires went down each side of the walls in there. So, I put on my overalls, crawled into the tunnerel to reconnect the wires on both sides. It took a few peroids to test wire currents. Then around the end of the Second Peroid they turned the bell system back on. What no one knew was I connected the Bell System into the Fire Alarm system. It turns out the wires was suppose to cross the roof of the tunnel. After a few peroids of everyone going outside when the bells went off they turned the bell system off. In the middle of fourth peroid, I asked to speak with my Teacher in the Hall and explained the wire problem to her. She sent me to the Office to let them know. So, they had me put my overalls on again, go back in to rewire and like before take a shower in the gym. During lunch the Staff discussed the situilation and decided to call that the senior prank. After lunch there was the customary anonoucement asking for information on who was responible. In years past the pranks were quite destructive. I will cover them in the next few posts.

3) The year before them Seniors were throwing School machines -- vending, shop related, cafiteria, tables, gym, typewritters, anything they could get to ther roof by elevator.

I think I would have preferred my local high school but wasnt given a choice where to go.

sometimes on the list serv I get high school librarians commenting on all the cool things they do in their libraries but I dont remember my high school library being like that. People thought you were strange if you read books during break time.

I think its because a lot of those kids were from rural areas and all knew each other from primary school already that they didnt want to let any one new into their clique. I just made friends with people who didnt fit in anywhere, like I rmemeber this one girl who was new to the country her family had immigrated, she hd learned to speak english but nobody else would take the time to spend with her cos she wasnt like BORN in the country.

I could not make the HS Baseball team, but I played in the Garden City Minor League. The HS had too many outfielders. I was not allowed to pitch because I had the problem of hitting the batter. When the HS Coach went to watch some of our games, he wanted me to play HS Baseball. I said, no thanks. When I lived in Inskster, I played for the Henry Ruff Saints. I was the only white man on that team.
We all had high batting averages and rarely lost a game in the minor leagues. I never made pro because of a knee injury. I had no problem making friends. When I took girls classes to break the barrier, I was very propular with the girls. None of the guys dared make fun of me because I was a Golden Gloves Boxer. I did make Varsity Football, but family could not affoard the fees. They did sneak me into some games. I was great at sacking the Quarterback -- I had the moves.

I hope you don't expect us to believe your bloviating. What I see is a lot of wishful thinking. JMHO. I apologize if I'm wrong.

Perhaps should of said work feels like high school. You have the cool kids, the rich kids, mean girls , the ones that just want to get thru the day. Being older I find no need for drama and myself just want to get my work done and go home. I talk to very few women at my work seems they have a belittling look on alot of people that are not them. You see I am a porter which some seem to be beneath them. Sad because I do have more education then most people I work with or around. But never wanted to flaunt it ,to me what seems insignificant. I talk to everyone pretty much the same way. I was the same way in the military. Sure higher ranks demanded respect , but that with humor goes a long ways.
I just wonder at times why at any age some find it or think it is their right of passage to belittle others or mistreat them because of their status quo . I actually have job offers starting out making alot more then those who are seemingly rude to me or others. I have done their factory job, I have helped setup presses and read blue prints. But find the job tedious and atm hotter then being a porter(AKA as house keeper ) .
But all the knowledge in the world means nothing after all if you are not a disciple for Jesus. For this I will not think I am better no matter the job, education or status quo then fastfood workers, cashiers etc. I think the way to go thru life is to look at others thru God's eyes and see the heart. Just find these people or places seemingly like high school is all

popularity is overrated

I think the Christians who truly realize that income, job, race, etc. don't matter don't act cliquish and they treat everyone with respect. However, sometimes I feel that, despite knowing these factors do not matter in the end, some issues are outside the comfort zone. One time my pastor made a joke. There were two babies recently born in the church (one from a rich family, another in wedlock from a poor single mom (also somewhat loose) of a different race), and my pastor joked that maybe they'll get married one day. There was definitely some uncomfortable reaction from the church. It seems like, some issues just make people (even well-meaning people) too uncomfortable.
