The animal sacrifices went null and void the moment Jesus blood became available. They were given the opportunity to repent then and there. John the Baptist pointed them to Jesus long before the Crucifixion.

John 3:16, " For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."

I don't see repentance (a work) in either of these key verses. Belief and faith -- two ways of describing the same thing -- are all that re required.

Yes. Many of them did accept Jesus. The ones who did not will burn in hell unless they came to the light and accepted the blood of Jesus as payment in full for their sins (including the crucifixion of their King.)
