2. What about if kissing this creature would result in you getting the prince/princess/companion of your dreams as a result?!?

And these aren't your little garden variety toads, either.

Unfortunately, I have several CC friends who know that one of my extreme, irrational phobias is of toads and frogs, and occasionally (read: all too often) they enjoy taking advantage of my great fears.

Wasps? Hornets? Spiders (as long as they're not the size of my hand)? No problem.

But if you cross my path with one (or worse, a group) of these beady-eyed, questionably suspicious-looking amphibians, you can almost place bests on me jumping and screaming. I can only blame it on bad childhood memories of deadheading my Mom's petunias as a kid and a "bumpy rock" jumping out at me, and a boy at summer camp who came up to me and said, "I have a surprise for you!"

The last thing I saw was a pair of beady little eyes popping up over the boy's cupped hands as I screamed and ran away. NO.THANK.YOU!!!

And to this day, I still shudder when I see petunias at local garden centers.

A few days ago, a CC friend sent me a picture of a toad that she and her mom had encountered while coming home from grocery shopping. She said it was about the size of a personal pan pizza.

Jiminy Crickets, the picture alone made my heart stop!!!

And then my friend sweetly suggested, "Why don't you kiss him, Seoul? After all, he might turn into a prince!"

(For anyone who might be unfamiliar with this, there is a well-known fairy tale here in the USA in which a princess kisses a frog and he becomes a handsome prince.)

Uh....

I think I'll take my chances at STAYING SINGLE, THANKS.

HOWEVER... What about the rest of you?

If you could kiss a face like this and it would turn into the prince or princess of your dreams, WOULD YOU DO IT?!?

I am really curious to hear the answers!

Just a fun little thread to kick off the weekend!

I never liked Miss Piggy.

My bets were on Gonzo and Camilla the chicken.

I am trying to find the original tale of the frog and the princess, because, the frog did not just
magically turn into a prince apropos of nothing, but had been a prince beforehand, and by some
dark spell, been turned into a frog by some evil entity (often portrayed as a witch), which could
only be undone by certain conditions being met. Here is the tale as the Grimm brothers told it :D

One fine evening a young princess put on her bonnet and clogs, and went out to take a walk by herself in a wood; and when she came to a cool spring of water, that rose in the midst of it, she sat herself down to rest a while. Now she had a golden ball in her hand, which washer favourite plaything; and she was always tossing it up into the air, and catching it again as it fell. After a time she threw it up so high that she missed catching it as it fell; and the ball bounded away, and rolled along upon the ground, till at last it fell down in to the spring. The princess looked into the spring after her ball, but it was very deep, so deep that she could not see the bottom of it. Then she began to bewail her loss, and said, ‘Alas! if I could only get my ball again, I would give all my fine clothes and jewels, and everything that I have in the world.’

Whilst she was speaking, a frog put its head out of the water, and said, ‘Princess, why do you weep so bitterly?’ ‘Alas!’ said she, ‘what can you do for me, you nasty frog? My golden ball has fallen into the spring.’ The frog said, ‘I want not your pearls, and jewels, and fine clothes; but if you will love me, and let me live with you and eat from off your golden plate, and sleep upon your bed, I will bring you your ball again.’ ‘What nonsense,’ thought the princess, ‘this silly frog is talking! He can never even get out of the spring to visit me, though he may be able to get my ball for me, and therefore I will tell him he shall have what he asks.’ So she said to the frog, ‘Well, if you will bring me my ball, I will do all you ask.’ Then the frog put his head down, and dived deep under the water; and after a little while he came up again, with the ball in his mouth, and threw it on the edge of the spring. As soon as the young princess saw her ball, she ran to pick it up; and she was so overjoyed to have it in her hand again, that she never thought of the frog, but ran home with it as fast as she could. The frog called after her, ‘Stay, princess, and take me with you as you said,’ But she did not stop to hear a word.

The next day, just as the princess had sat down to dinner, she heard a strange noise—tap, tap—plash, plash—as if something was coming up the marble staircase: and soon afterwards there was a gentle knock at the door, and a little voice cried out and said:

'Open the door, my princess dear, Open the door to thy true love here! And mind the words that thou and I said By the fountain cool, in the greenwood shade.'

Then the princess ran to the door and opened it, and there she saw the frog, whom she had quite forgotten. At this sight she was sadly frightened, and shutting the door as fast as she could came back to her seat. The king, her father, seeing that something had frightened her, asked her what was the matter. ‘There is a nasty frog,’ said she, ‘at the door, that lifted my ball for me out of the spring this morning: I told him that he should live with me here, thinking that he could never get out of the spring; but there he is at the door, and he wants to come in.’

While she was speaking the frog knocked again at the door, and said:

'Open the door, my princess dear, Open the door to thy true love here! And mind the words that thou and I said By the fountain cool, in the greenwood shade.'

Then the king said to the young princess, ‘As you have given your word you must keep it; so go and let him in.’ She did so, and the frog hopped into the room, and then straight on—tap, tap—plash, plash—from the bottom of the room to the top, till he came up close to the table where the princess sat. ‘Pray lift me upon chair,’ said he to the princess, ‘and let me sit next to you.’ As soon as she had done this, the frog said, ‘Put your plate nearer to me, that I may eat out of it.’ This she did, and when he had eaten as much as he could, he said, ‘Now I am tired; carry me upstairs, and put me into your bed.’ And the princess, though very unwilling, took him up in her hand, and put him upon the pillow of her own bed, where he slept all night long. As soon as it was light he jumped up, hopped downstairs, and went out of the house. ‘Now, then,’ thought the princess, ‘at last he is gone, and I shall be troubled with him no more.’

But she was mistaken; for when night came again she heard the same tapping at the door; and the frog came once more, and said:

'Open the door, my princess dear, Open the door to thy true love here! And mind the words that thou and I said By the fountain cool, in the greenwood shade.'

And when the princess opened the door the frog came in, and slept upon her pillow as before, till the morning broke. And the third night he did the same. But when the princess awoke on the following morning she was astonished to see, instead of the frog, a handsome prince, gazing on her with the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen, and standing at the head of her bed.

He told her that he had been enchanted by a spiteful fairy, who had changed him into a frog; and that he had been fated so to abide till some princess should take him out of the spring, and let him eat from her plate, and sleep upon her bed for three nights. ‘You,’ said the prince, ‘have broken his cruel charm, and now I have nothing to wish for but that you should go with me into my father’s kingdom, where I will marry you, and love you as long as you live.’

The young princess, you may be sure, was not long in saying ‘Yes’ to all this; and as they spoke a gay coach drove up, with eight beautiful horses, decked with plumes of feathers and a golden harness; and behind the coach rode the prince’s servant, faithful Heinrich, who had bewailed the misfortunes of his dear master during his enchantment so long and so bitterly, that his heart had well-nigh burst.

They then took leave of the king, and got into the coach with eight horses, and all set out, full of joy and merriment, for the prince’s kingdom, which they reached safely; and there they lived happily a great many years. source

The moral of the story is to accept everyone regardless of their looks :)

That is a huge frog! I can kind of sort of maybe see myself kissing it :giggle:

I am the type of person who kills bugs (not all bugs, but definitely some), though shudders when doing so (depending on the amount of crunch heard or squish detected) as they are crushed under foot or otherwise dispatched, and then apologizes. I do not think I am necessarily apologizing to them. At first I thought I was, but upon recent reflection of this question, realized the apology is really intended for God, since I am taking a life.

I do not fault anyone for not wishing to kiss a frog! Even though I could possibly do so
under certain circumstances ;) I kiss my cat, and my daughter's cats and dogs, frequently :D

Admittedly, cats and dogs are much cuter and fluffier than frogs or toads

Some frogs and toads are poisonous  Best not to even touch them, let alone kiss them :geek:

I miss the touch, hugs and kisses of a man in my life, so with that guarantee that it would return, I would close my eyes as tight as possible and kiss it. Please don't say that's not allowed!

They do say that you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince. Personally I never have felt it was worth the trouble.

That's because it was meant for the girls! If it said 'your princess', trust me you would have kissed your share of female frogs. What are they called?

Years ago, before everything was sped up through advances in printing technologies,
we used to sing that little ditty when people's prints were not ready when they wanted
them. People would come in way before they were told they would be done, also, hoping
against hope that some miracle had happened and their print order put before however
many other people's print orders preceded theirs'.

"Some day my prince will come" was changed to, "Some day my prints will come." :giggle:

Also I'm guessing that it would just be a peck somewhere near the mouth area because if that thing should open it's mouth for a full on kiss, there will be no man alive that would make me approach it! Nope! Such slimy creatures!!

?

I know the story of beauty and the Beast but seemed to have missed The princess and the Frog.
I also know the princess and the pea (in one picture book, they are cast as dogs, specifically poodles)

And then theres the whole raft of Disney Princess stories.
Aladdin and his magic lamp, that turns him into a prince.

Princess Diana famously said she kissed a Prince and he turned out to be a frog lol

The Brits called the French Frogs. Im not sure if its because they eat frogs legs or because they sound like them?

or maybe its a term of endearment. The French in turn call the brits 'le rosbifs' the roast beefs! ?! Cos they always eating roast beef?

Also French kissing means you stick out your tongue to catch the fly in the others mouth

supposedly they kiss like frogs? I dont know Ive never kissed a French guy like that, and when they do kiss its usually two kisses on each cheek. They do that with everyone.

hmm I dont think the moral of the story is to accept everyone regardless of their looks. Its just a sneaky way to capture a princess (who might not even have wanted to give up her own realm to go marry a neighbouring prince) and of course when the spell is broken he turns into a 'handsome prince'.

so maybe the spiteful fairy was just being a matchmaker after all and it was all just a way of getting the princesss attention.

Yup thats a really handsome frog. I have yet to see a pic of a man that I thought was ugly. Theres always one thing about him that I can find appealing.
Its true I think you do have to kiss a lot of frogs. If you are married how many guys did you date before you reached your spouse. Mind you what they are doing on social sites where girls brag about their body count is not doing them any favours if a potential employer sees it.
Id keep that one as a pet. It could be a paper weight or door stop.

The fairy tale doesn't say you have to kiss it on the face/mouth. So if it was a quid pro quo, Id kiss the frog.

Toads, like the one you pictured, I think have some mystical beauty. Some toads are cute. Some are just ugly.

Some frogs are quite beautiful, or otherwise cool or friendly looking...
