You know, I will keep that in mind. I love iguanas, but they get huge and, as you pointed out, they need a large enclosure, which I could not provide. I've thought of maybe purchasing a brand of monitor lizard. But, I need to be certain I'm prepared to take on a pet. My hobbies and side interests, plus my job, take up huge chunks of time.

My sister and I are both scared of frogs. So was my mum.
My sister and I have no reason to be scared of them but mum had what she perceived as a scary experience with one as a kid. She seemed to have passed that fear on to us. For me it is the thought of them being cold and slimy and jumping on me unexpectedly. If I am gardening and I see one I cant continue till it is gone. Often I have to get a rake or something and move it on elsewhere.

How... how could you? Their little white rubbery tummies, chubby bodies... they're so cute.

I agree to look at a picture of one it can actually look quite cute esp the mini tiny green ones you get here. A mouse picture looks cute too but I dont want neither of them jumping or crawling on to me

The title says it all.
Inquiring minds want to know:
1. Would you kiss this face???
2. What about if kissing this creature would result in you getting the prince/princess/companion of your dreams as a result?!?
And these aren't your little garden variety toads, either.
Unfortunately, I have several CC friends who know that one of my extreme, irrational phobias is of toads and frogs, and occasionally (read: all too often) they enjoy taking advantage of my great fears.
Wasps? Hornets? Spiders (as long as they're not the size of my hand)? No problem.
But if you cross my path with one (or worse, a group) of these beady-eyed, questionably suspicious-looking amphibians, you can almost place bests on me jumping and screaming. I can only blame it on bad childhood memories of deadheading my Mom's petunias as a kid and a "bumpy rock" jumping out at me, and a boy at summer camp who came up to me and said, "I have a surprise for you!"
The last thing I saw was a pair of beady little eyes popping up over the boy's cupped hands as I screamed and ran away. NO.THANK.YOU!!!
And to this day, I still shudder when I see petunias at local garden centers.
A few days ago, a CC friend sent me a picture of a toad that she and her mom had encountered while coming home from grocery shopping. She said it was about the size of a personal pan pizza.
Jiminy Crickets, the picture alone made my heart stop!!!
And then my friend sweetly suggested, "Why don't you kiss him, Seoul? After all, he might turn into a prince!"
(For anyone who might be unfamiliar with this, there is a well-known fairy tale here in the USA in which a princess kisses a frog and he becomes a handsome prince.)
Uh....
I think I'll take my chances at STAYING SINGLE, THANKS.
HOWEVER... What about the rest of you?
If you could kiss a face like this and it would turn into the prince or princess of your dreams, WOULD YOU DO IT?!?

Isn't that a Mel Gibson production? I didn't know they were branching into that. (We better watch out!. The crazy johnny dude will come along and ruin the thread with accusations of worshipping the pope, sheep and scary movies). 🙄

About the monitors. They are normally very intelligent. Likewise they get big and take a lot of clean up. Many advise raising your own clean rodents because pet trade sources usually come frozen from labs. I like certain variety of Savannah Monitor for their tendency to get"tame." Not as flighty as most. The Varanids take around half the time investment of a dog and you can leave them a few days to take a vacation.

Are monitors like snakes, or maybe it's a characteristic of reptiles in general?
I used to watch a few snake-breeding channels that explained that there's a big controversy over feeding with live vs. frozen/pre-killed prey. Apparently, many argue that the live prey (claws, teeth, etc.) can tear up/damage/kill a reptile in the process.
But they also explained that in some cases, the snakes refuse to eat prey that was already dead, and so living prey is the only option... ?
I used to watch a few snake-breeding channels that explained that there's a big controversy over feeding with live vs. frozen/pre-killed prey. Apparently, many argue that the live prey (claws, teeth, etc.) can tear up/damage/kill a reptile in the process.
But they also explained that in some cases, the snakes refuse to eat prey that was already dead, and so living prey is the only option... ?
Either way, I ain't buying a carnivorous reptile, even though I am one
The snake swallowed a few of them headfirst, but the ones that were absolutely heart-wrenching to watch was when he got a hold of them by their backside and swallowed them from tail to head, and you had to watch them hopelessly fight for their lives while squeaking out little cries of desperation the whole way down.
Then all of a sudden -- gulp!
He would close his mouth over the head, and there would be an eerie calm and silence, as if life was just hunky dory again.
It was even more horrifying realize that this poor little pinkie was still alive even when the snake's mouth closed, and it probably only died when it ran out of air (or was crushed by the internal muscles of the snake's body.)
I know it's just how nature is in a fallen world, and I certainly have no affection for rats, but yeah, I couldn't go through witnessing that on a regular basis at all.

The snake swallowed a few of them headfirst, but the ones that were absolutely heart-wrenching to watch was when he got a hold of them by their backside and swallowed them from tail to head, and you had to watch them hopelessly fight for their lives while squeaking out little cries of desperation the whole way down.
Then all of a sudden -- gulp!
