This is an interesting read.

Excerpts:

We know that God does not equate sexual intercourse with marriage based on the fact that the Old Testament often distinguishes a wife from a concubine.

Also, 1 Corinthians 7:2 indicates that sex before marriage is immorality. If sexual intercourse causes a couple to become married, it could not be considered immoral, as the couple would be considered married the moment they engaged in sexual intercourse.

Some point to Genesis 24 and the story of Isaac and Rebekah as an example of a couple being married solely by sexual intercourse, without any type of ceremony. But the details that lead up the marriage reveal that a formal process was followed.
1 Corinthians 7:34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

Virgin = unmarried, not haven made the sexual union
wife = married, having made the sexual union

Mark 10
11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

Neither of these relate intercourse to marriage

Are you saying that if a young woman has intercourse (she is not married in your view), she is still considered a virgin?

In the Mark 10 example, the woman who married another committed adultery. No intercourse was necessary nor mentioned.

You're comparing apples to oranges and not addressing the question.

JohnB are you wanting to be in a relationship with a woman, be intimate with her like in a de facto marriage?
Possibly you might think that there should not be any judgement because to you a "marriage" is when a couple fulfil all their needs including spiritual, financial, emotional etc and it culminates with the sexual union like in a de facto relationship. I could be wrong 🤷‍♀️

I dont think there are any rules, I think there is advice that Paul gives to the unmarried and married but its up to you to follow it.

In Acts, though, fornication was forbidden. As well as eating food sacrificied to idols and strangled.

If you cant refrain from fornicating, marry them i,e make an honest (woman) of whoever it is. But if you can control yourself to stop fornicating and leave the woman unmarried, i.e be friends its even better. Most women would rather NOT be married to tell you the truth. It is actually giving your life away to please someone else and never having time for the Lord. Most women want a better life than that.

also, when you marry, you need to stick with them until you or they die -remaining faithful to each other . The marriage bed is just for two people and not anyone else. I dont think that is TOO hard to understand.

I agree, which is why I don't like churches or Christians telling others how they should date or what they can and cannot do on a date. .

I get tired of Churches, pastors and Christians taking verses out of contexts, using their personal opinion as GOD's word. examples, there's no sex in heaven. Show me the verse that says that. They cannot.
Hammering single Christians with
2 Timothy 2:22 to flee youthful lust. The verse has nothing to do with sex. Read 2 Timothy 2:23 to see the context.
I heard a pastor telling a Singles group, when you have those strong desires, like GOD putting Adam to sleep, let those desires go to sleep. They do not go to sleep.
Thanks for the response. I understand your irritation... many Christians and pastors are insensitive and narrow-minded when it comes to single believers. They inadvertently ostracize singles because, I suspect, they have forgotten their own pre-marriage experience and haven't a clue what to do with such desires.

You're right: those desires do not "go to sleep". Sometimes the best strategy is to ignore the ignorant. Otherwise, their proffered "advice" will only irritate you. ;)

if you date, everyone will give their opinion, and often unwanted advice... not just churches or other christians...non christians, your parents, relatives, random ppl on social media who you dont even know....

but thats just that, their opinion. You dont have to listen to them ya know. But you cant shut everyone up.

I mean even if you dont date and just have friends, probably some people wont like the friends you hang out with either thats just the way it is.

In the Bible, Jesus friends were criticised, he was hanging out with 'sinful women' prostitutes and publicans. Jews were not meant to eat with gentiles, they were unclean...Jews were meant to avoid associating with Samaritans...men werent allowed to talk with women. Even children were told to get lost.

Jesus did not say they will not have sex.* Read Genesis 6:1-2 "When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose." These fallen angels had desires. They were attracted to the women.
yeah dude. Jesus DID say there is no sex in heaven. Are you thinking of those 33 virgins? That is Islam

* In Matthew chapter 22, the Sadducees attempt to discredit Jesus by asking what they considered a tough question about marriage and the resurrection. They came to Him and presented a hypothetical case in which a woman had been married multiple times in her life. Then they asked which husband would be hers in the resurrection: “Whose wife will she be, . . . since all of them were married to her?” (verse 28). Jesus answered them with these words: “At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven” (verse 30).

Notice Jesus says 'like the angels in heaven' and NOT the angels who left heaven. The angels in heaven are not promiscuous fools having sex with human beings

The angels who lost their first estate, that is left heaven because they lusted after women, are held in chains until judgement.

Since we should abstain from sex until we are married, as a believer, I doubt there will be orgies in heaven. Get over it.

People have that union even if they are not married.
Angels are not given in marriage and sex outside of marriage is verboten. Therefore...

These are fallen angels so marriage wouldn't matter to having sex, but interesting in the verse is said they took them for wives.

Perhaps you will have a special concession since you missed out down here...according to you *

There is no private interpretation for scripture. When folks do what you are doing, they run aground

He said there is no marriage, he didn't say there was no sex.
That is very disappointing because I was really looking forward to being the kind of creature that is free of carnal lusts.

There won't be fornication in heaven or on the new earth. Jesus didn't have to say it.

Now regarding your question about the young women who are not yet married. I do not have a command from the Lord for them. 1 Corinthians 7:25. There are no rules for Christian dating. About the only guide lines was no sex before marriage, and we fail at that. I guess GOD's rule was not high enough, churches make up their own.
Paul was dealing with the issue of getting married versus staying celibate in this context.

What about do not murder your date? He doesn't mention that in this passage, but there is other scripture on it.

Maybe your CC friends were taking his comment on a man not touching a woman kind of literally when they made their marriage rules. Did they have a dance where they couldn't touch at all? :) The men in some sects within Judaism do not touch women (with exceptions, their own wives for example), but that might have developed later.

Dad's can make rules about what to do when someone dates his daughter.

I'm sorry but I think the best thing for me to do is put you on ignore. No hard feelings.
You can just not click on his marriage/sex threads fairly easily if you don't like them. I don't see why you would say that to the post you replied to.
