Does anyone NOT like the little critters? They're adorable, cute, oh and did I say adorable? Big brown eyes, cute wet noses, pink lips, soft white tummies...

They love to run but not actually get anywhere. They gnaw on everything. They make noise in the middle of the night when they go bat-**** crazy.

But, when they get to know you, you can pet them, hold them, feed them. My gerbil, Suzy-Q (yes, she reached that high status of Q-hood) would actually lift her arm so I could rub under her belly. I'd peak my head into her cage and say "Suzziieee!" And she'd stand up, sniff my nose or mouth, and then resume her burrowing or gnawing or cardio workout on the wheel.

Why God, why did you make these little fellows? They're just too cute.

Wish you could post a hamster next to a Gerbil somewhere just for comparison. Real cute as you say. Only heard of them and now I see. This is weird. Just reminded myself of Jobs' answer to God with........'only heard but now I see....

Gerbils...

They're delicious!

Of course I'm only going by my cat's opinion. I've never tried them myself. But my cat loves them.

A gerbil is a cross between a rat and a pomeranian.

Well, everyone's entitled to their opinion and to express it, even if it's vile.

Talk to my cat about that. I'm only going from her opinion. I haven't tried them myself.

I blame not the cat. As Sylvester once cried when trying to submit to Birds Anonymous (or something like that), he's a pussycat and can't help himself.

I blame humans who'd allow such an atrocity to occur.

Someday, the gerbil and the cat will lie together.

I think they were the first kind of rodent that I raised as a boy. I've raised a bunch of others since and always liked gerbils.
The strangest thing I saw in August was one a block from my house on the road, hit by a car. The closest looking wild native rodent would be a ground squirrel. It wasn't a ground squirrel. It must've been someone's pet gerbil that escaped.

No way!! I am a little frightened of rats/mice. I know they are cute to look at on a screen but if one ran past me in real life I would do a runner.

No, they're a lot different than rats. Gerbils we buy at a pet store. Rats we try to kill with poison.

Okay so yeah, they're like rats. They're just not as good at surviving on their own.

Oh... please. All birds are not alike. Neither are all reptiles or primates. Rats carry disease and can spread rabies. Gerbils might bite you in fear but spread nothing.

these guys are "rodents" too! lol

Ugh...

Every stinking year those rats steal every single pear from our pear tree before we get a chance at them. Don't get me started on the pecans.

Yeah. Those are definitely thieving little rodents.
