These verses refer to tribute. Sounds like a 'tithe'. Jesus seems to indicate again the 'leadership' is recognized reluctantly. He paid the tribute to fulfill the covenant He made with His Father. The corruption of the Temple and the 'leadership' is evident in 'every' incident involving the Temple. Plus look at lynx's post #614. My opinion is if your local congregation is honest, your money isn't needed or wanted by them.
That is what the AoG group I associate with told me. "It's not about the money and we don't want your money if that is keeping you from worshipping with us". We had a nice discussion regarding tithes. I do contribute what I feel is right. Probably less than I should. I am sort of like the 'prodigal' in the NT.
For many years I was spending just on alcohol, maybe between $20 and $40 daily and yet here I am writing on a Christian chat and talking to my local AoG assembly and watching online. If Jesus were really upset with me maybe I would have died on several occasions. I have the feeling we still get judged and maybe penalized somehow but that is up to Jesus to determine. Maybe I am whacked in the way I see this matter? If it were about money, where would I be? If Jesus needs more money, He will probably bring more wealthy people into "The Church".
Jesus will not kill you just for sinning, he gives you messages who tell you to repent, it's up to you to repent or not.
Death is a natural consequence since the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden.
We will all die at one point or another, some naturally, others at the hands of another, others because of their sin, Only God knows for sure.
It's after that point we give account of our lives, good and evil, every word, thought and deed, some will enter heaven and most will go to hell.
He'll being the first choice of dealing with sin after Lucifer fell, and those going to heaven are not going because they deserve it or earned it.
They are going because they did what was right, they repented of their sins and strived to stay right with God and Accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
