I don’t want to get mixed up in the confusing dating world. I have many non negotiables and feel like a dinosaur, lol. But, I would like to find a like minded Christian to spend the rest of my life with. If God doesn’t send that my way I will learn to accept and embrace it. What has been your experience as an older person?

Hey, I get it. Nothing wrong with still wanting companionship. Maybe you will meet someone getting out doing stuff you enjoy, that way if you don't, u enjoyed yourself anyway, just getting out and interacting.

Anyway, I think learning how to be content, even happy and fulfilled, on your own takes work and has seasons just like being in any relationship, especially committed ones.

I hope the Lord satisfies the desires of your heart., Maryann.

Howdy and welcome to the forum.

It might help to know your age. That will determine a lot of things.

Most of the kids at work consider me a dinosaur, and I am only 45.

I’m 66 and have just experienced the end of a 4 year relationship. Prior to that I was married for 37 years.

I’m sad because I thought this was “the one”
Now, I’m afraid to venture into the dating world, even Christian. But, I am lonely. We are not meant to be alone. I’m not even sure what to pray for.

Try being in your early 70s, a widower, yet in good physical and spiritual shape. Then try living without intimacy after enjoying it for 40+ years. I don't mean sex ,either. I mean the loss of friendship, companionship and completeness. I trust non of you feel as empty as I feel right npow

I hope this particular new member sees your thread @BigRIJoe, because he was talking about how difficult he's finding dating as well.

Best wishes to you, and keep talking to us.

Hi Maryann, an interesting date to start looking for a new companion....😁. It's my unbirthday today. I have had 68 birthdays but many many more unbirthdays. I only joined christianchat looking for friends around the world. Your point about non-negotiables rings true with me but I'm only beginning to consider what they should be. I guess having been burned once or thrice I intend to move very slowly into a comfortable slippered companionship. I will add you to my prayer list as I'm sure many others will.

why cant you just have lots of christian friends? Why does there have to be the ONE. Why do people put all their faith into just one man or woman who is merely a man or woman, and not in Jesus?
Churches dont consist of just one person either....

Most retirement villages have christian fellowships amongst them where widowers and widowers get together and have fun times, and are companions with each other, or clubs or special interest groups. Or they have pets. I have never heard anyone who is part of these groups, who support each other, and hang out together then complain about not having any friends.

I myself have been having that struggle. Been in the dating world through various sites and never found the right one who shares the same level of faith and active in church ministry. Being in the low 60's myself, I found dating activity to equal a job search. I gave up and bean praying that the Lord will guide me and lead me to find the One He has for me, and the wisdom to know and follow His leading. I concentrated more on being active in Christian singles groups of people close to my age and being involved more in church activities. Focusing on others instead of ourselves and asking Him to fulfill the desires of our heart. Waiting is never easy. I pray that He will open your eyes as He did for me for the one He has in mind for you.

it gets more & more difficult for Christians to find a date now-a-days your have to perform a "background" check! ask questions, poke around, do your research thoroughly! think of the present state of the world, the country you live in and the future outlook of economy. yes, that all has a play into dating. for instance, if i knew someone real good, i would advise not to have kids, way to much unsettled sinful behavior going on & it just gets worse. the best chance at finding a godly date is to be a born again Christian, get people to pray for you, ask church members, pray to Jesus & never give up. The Holy Spirit told me He was going to send me a girl within 4 years. there are 208 weeks in 4 years. He delivered on the 205th week!!!!!!!!

sorry...Im just thinking of my grand uncle who dated after his wife died and it was ok for a while but his girlfriend then had health issues as well and it kind of petered out.

Also his sons werent that keen on his girlfriend. I dont think seniors should date anyone younger or around the same age as their children...and if they just require a housekeeper, they are better off paying someone.

This might sound harsh but I think seniors need to learn how to be good friends as it will be better for them in the long run to have many friends than be totally reliant on just one person. My grand uncle is now in a rest home that he doesnt like very much. He married someone much younger than he was, probably expecting her to look after him in his old age but she died

I have been hearing a lot of stories about him lately from family members but since hes in another country (Canada) far away we cant really do anything about his situation except pray.
