I awoke one morning to hear Patty Griffin singing a song from her new CD, and fell in love instantly .
Two weeks later I saw her in concert here. Any ways, that song was on the same CD: Servant of Love.

She's an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumental musician, originally from Maine, moved to FLA, and lives in TX.... Kind of old style, and always very nicely presents herself professionally... real down home and folksy with a stripped down style. She toured with Robert Plant as a backing vocalist in his Band of Joy; they were together for a number of years. Her songs have been covered by quite a few people, and also featured in many movies and television series. Her Catholic roots come through in a number of her songs.

Unkind words said about us or unresolved hurtful events cause us to store anger which, if not dealt with, will turn into frustration, anxiety, hatred, despair, rage, and hopelessness. The effect of these feelings carried forward from childhood into adulthood causes us to seek out ways to control each situation we encounter. Often that positions us to hurt others before they hurt us. Alternatively, we may become people pleasers. In our desire to fit in with the crowd we may enter into unhealthy relationships which we believe will help fill the emptiness inside us. Unfortunately, all the baggage we have not dealt with in life continues to accompany us. Stored anger will erupt and spew over into our current relationships causing frustration and pain to those who are close to us.
At some point we must admit that we need help to deal with what’s going on inside. When we come to know Jesus and accept salvation through His death on the cross, we become new creations. The old goes and the new comes. We are challenged by God to demonstrate this transformation by acting and reacting in new ways.
“ … now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.” (Colossians 3:8-10 NIV)
Anger can be a cover for fear, unmet needs, offenses against us, and an unwillingness to change. If we ask God, He will reveal to us the root cause of our anger and will give us the grace to forgive those who harmed us. God will also forgive us for the harmful influence we have had on others as we lived an angry lifestyle.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, Help me to live in Your love today. When I have angry outbursts, help me to discern what is really going on. I want to be free from all that hinders my relationship with You and others. Please help me live in the love, joy and peace that comes from obeying Your principles in everything I say and do. Amen

THE TWELVE STEPS & RELATED SCRIPTURE
STEP ONE - We admitted we were powerless over alcohol -- that our lives had become unmanageable.
I know that nothing good lives in me, that is in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. (Romans 7:18)
STEP TWO - Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose. (Philippians 2:13)
STEP THREE - Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. (Romans 12:1)
STEP FOUR - MADE A SEARCHING AND FEARLESS MORAL INVENTORY OF OURSELVES.
Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord. (Lamentations 3:40)
STEP FIVE - ADMITTED TO GOD, TO OURSELVES, AND TO ANOTHER HUMAN BEING THE EXACT NATURE OF OUR WRONGS.
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. (James 5:16a)
STEP SIX - WERE ENTIRELY READY TO HAVE GOD REMOVE ALL THESE DEFECTS OF CHARACTER.
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up. (James 4:10)
STEP SEVEN - HUMBLY ASKED HIM TO REMOVE OUR SHORTCOMINGS.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
STEP EIGHT - Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. (Luke 6:31)
STEP NINE - Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift. (Matthew 5:23-24)
STEP TEN - Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall. (1 Corinthians 10:12)
STEP ELEVEN - Sought though prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for the knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly. (Colossians 3:16a)
STEP TWELVE - Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. (Galatians 6:1)
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper then any two-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (HEBREWS 4:12)
