It's the "or not" one. This topic is directed to those who believe that the crucifixion took place on the 6th day of the week, and think that the "heart of the earth" is referring to the tomb and try to explain the lack of a 3rd night time by saying that the Messiah was employing common figure of speech/colloquial language of the period. I'm merely curious what examples they have in order to legitimately say that it was common usage. For the purpose of this topic, it's nothing more than that.
I believe that the crucifixion took place on Friday and Jesus Rose on Sunday. It's logical and aligns with Scripture to believe so. From Joseph of Arimathea preparing Jesus's body to the Sunday resurrection.

Anything else made out of it is not relevant or productive towards achieving the commandments of Jesus.

Jesus is God....
And because He lives I can face tomorrow with hope.

Jesus and his men ate their Passover dinner the night of his arrest.

Matt 26:17-20
Mark 14:12-17
Luke 22:7-15

The Jews ate their Passover after he was dead and buried.

John 13:1-2
John 18:28-29
John 19:13-14
John 19:31)

The Jews were somehow unaware that their religious calendar was tardy the
year that Christ was crucified. He, being a prophet in direct contact with
God, would of course have known the precise moment that Passover that
year was supposed to begin; which is no doubt at least one of the reasons
why Christ ate his own Passover before the Jews ate theirs.

Ironically, the Jews were careful to avoid going after Jesus during Passover.

Matt 26:3-5 . .Then the chief priests and the elders of the people
assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, and
they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill him. But not during the
feast-- they said --or there may be a riot among the people.

Due to their religious calendar's error, the Jews inadvertently put Jesus to
death during the very season they wanted to avoid.

I believe that the crucifixion took place on Friday and Jesus Rose on Sunday.
If by Friday you mean the 6th day of the week, then you meet the first requirement for this topic. Next, do you think that the "heart of the earth" is referring to the tomb?

That comment and the ones following are also issues for a different topic.
How about starting one?

Phbbbbbbbbbb! (The raspberry; an obnoxious sound made by sticking out
the tongue between one's lips and exhaling forcefully)

So much for your "documents"

Eccl12and13,

re: "Does it really matter how the Jews of Jesus day counted a day?"

It does to the folks who argue for a 6th day crucifixion. Do you have any information asked for in the OP?
I would argue for a sixth day crucifixion, and I can fit Jesus being three days and three night in the heart of the land (en kardiai tEs Ges) before leaving "the heart of the land" on Sunday morning. Jesus crossed the Kidron valley to go to Gethsemane after dark on
Thursday night. He was arrested about midnight and taken by the mob back to the temple mount (i.e. the heart of the land of Israel). Jesus was tried in the dark early hours of Friday before dawn by the Jews during the and then by the Romans and then crucified and buried on Friday . He spent Friday night, Saturday and Saturday night, and rose about dawn on Sunday, ascending from the temple mount to the Father during Sunday after talking to Mary Magdalene outside the tomb (John 20:19-22). By Jewish inclusive reckoning, the part night leading into Friday is reckoned as one night, and the part of Sunday before Jesus mid-morning ascension is reckoned as one day.day

That by my count is "three days and three nights in the heart of the land"; the land being Israel; "the heart of Israel" being the temple mount.

If we do not know, we do not know. Again, He was crucified, died and was buried. He rose on the third day. As for the Seventh day being changed to the first day, renamed with pagan names., think about that.

I will ever go with the Father on the Seventh Day being the designate day God's Sabbath. Our Father is not a liar, nor forgetful, nor addle minded, He said it, I believe it, and that settles it.

Yes, the Lord Jesus was handed over to the Jewish leaders and crucified on Nisan 14 (Thursday 00:20), dead over Nisan 15, and raised on Nisan 16 (Sunday 05:20) that is on the third Jewish day.

I do believe the Hebrew Lunar calendar is the best guide for ascertaining anything with a date from the Word..

Having said this, I have learned in my few decades of study that the Lunar calendar of the eHbrews was calculated from Adam to the present by first utilizing the Genealogies provided by the Books of the OT.

The Hebrews who calculated dthe figures for the Calendar knew that some genealogies were left out of the very studied calsulations, ergo the exact years from Adam are, frankly, unknow. These missing years could have been estimated however those scholars were also pious men and would not dare add to nor take away from the Word of Elohanu.

As per the information on Jesus Yeshua, as far as I have learned over the years no one knows when He was born nor does anyone know for certain which year, Lunar cCalendar or no, He was crucified. It was the day before that Sabbath, as it is writtne, but nowhere is it clear which Sabbath. It could have been the Sabbath of Pesach, however this is not stipulated, but rather only intimated by the Last Supper being on the of ot the Sabbath. It may have been or of the Seventh Day.

I am to brutish to be able to declare I know, nor would I hazard an estimation by the reasoning of man, not even of rabis. So I will remain in my ignorance until our Lord reveals all I am to understand. God bless all.

My comment is in response to where the thread has led . Like all, I receive alerts to comments others have made, and like all or almost all lengthy threads, the subject from the b3eginning has a tendency to meander.

It is possible tp calculate when Jesus was born from the fact that John the Baptist was conceived after Zachariah's service in the temple, since the calendar for the priestly courses was kept even when there was no temple. Since Mary conceived in Elizabeth's sixth month of pregnancy, and Jesus began His ministry after his baptism when he was about thirty years old by Jewish reckonng, which is almost 29 by our reckoning. And according to the gospels His ministry covered three years.

Ephesians 4:
8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?
10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

Acts 2:
30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

1 Peter 3:
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

1 Peter 4:6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

And remember, that "someone new" needs to be someone who believes the crucifixion took place on the 6th day of the week with a 1st day of the week resurrection, and who thinks that the "heart of the earth" is referring to the tomb or at the earliest to when the Messiah's spirit left His body, and who tries to explain the lack of a 3rd night by saying that the Messiah was employing common figure of speech/colloquial language of the period.

What is your purpose in starting this thread. It is obviously not to uderstand the biblical text and consider which interpretations of the biblical text are viable. It seems like your only concern is to discredit the Friday crucifixion because "en kardiai tEs gEs" means "in the heart of the earth" and clearly Jesus was not three days and three nights in the grave, or in hades, depending on where you believe Jesus' soul went between His death and resurrection.

This thread seems to be merely an attempt to say "gotcha!" to some select group you disagree with, rather than an attempt to get to a reasonable conclusion concerning what "in the belly of the whale" and "in the heart of the earth" meant to Jesus and the Jews at the time.
