I'm well aware of the figure of speech. It's just the application of it that is incorrect.
Can you prove it?

Is there an actual reputable source that says so?

Note: Modern scholars or Critical Text Proponents don't count because they are biased.
I am talking about somebody who has nothing to gain in this conversation and they are an expert in English and grammar and they will say that such a thing is grammatically incorrect.

Let me know.
If it pans out, then that's great.
However, it doesn't really add any weight for your side in this topic or discussion, though.

Do you refer to Numbers, the Scripture book? Or something else? .
I get the impression that you think counting a number in Scripture with an added meaning to it is forbidden.
But counting a specific number (with an added meaning) is exactly what Revelation 13:18 tells the one who has understanding to do.
So before I answer that question: What do you think Revelation 13:18 says?

Here is the verse:

Revelation 13:18
"Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."

Here is my brief commentary:

Wisdom = knowledge + experience.
The person who has understanding (in the fact that they have experience and knowledge in this department) is told to count the number of the beast. It is the number of a man. AND HIS NUMBER (the beast's number) is 666.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine and instruction in righteousness.
This would include the numbers in Scripture unless you don't believe all Scripture is profitable for doctrine, and instruction in righteousness.

Also consider: It rained for 40 days and 40 nights and the waters rose while Noah was in the Ark.
With all those animals I am sure that storm was challenging (or like a trial).
Moses was on Mount Sinai and away from the Israelites for 40 days and 40 nights. The Israelites were being tested or put under a trial by waiting and they failed.
Jesus fasted for 40 days and 40 nights. Jesus was in a trial or testing period. There are many things like this in the Bible. However, according to many, the numbers in the Bible have zero meaning.

Most in your camp simply ignore the words in Revelation 13:18.
Anyway, I will answer your question if you give me your commentary on Revelation 13:18.
What do you think it says?

Some things to ponder while reading Revelation 13:18.
Why is the one who has understanding told to count the number if the answer is already given?
What does the counting involve?

I don't know where or how you get that impression. I asked a simple, straightforward question seeking clarity.

Perhaps you have an overactive imagination.

If you did the study, man's number is 6 in the Bible. There is even a whole book on it.

A Christian author created a book on the number 6 by looking at the repeat occurrence of the number 6 as found in Scripture (with it meaning man). This is much like the number 40 having a repeat meaning of “trial,” which I just talked about.

I dare say there's probably a plethora of books on such things. We had one member quite a while ago, so long it may have been before I came here (though I doubt that somewhat) go on and on about the number 37. I do not recall what the significance they believe it had, but he would cite all types of verses from different Scripture books and add the chapter and verse numbers this way and that and then claim it all meant something specific. I do understand there is some significance in certain numbers, and that people have a fascination for such things, seemingly to the exclusion of the simplicity of the gospel. But I did make him a little graphic of the number 37...

The gospel (good news) is the most important thing to preach to others.
It takes precedence over any study on numbers. I normally do not get into numbers. I will occasionally look at what others say on this topic as a part of showing how God's Word is divine in origin. I will also promote such videos to show the divine nature of God’s Word, as well.

I believe the gospel is that Christ died for our sins, He was buried and risen on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). A person believing this message genuinely with all their heart will save them (and is a part of being saved by God's grace). Being saved by God's grace, generally also includes a person seeking forgiveness with the Lord Jesus Christ (GOD) of their past life of sin.

The Number Three and the Cross:
  1. Three times Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, which ties in with Jesus taking on our sins within the cup from God the Father (Matthew 26:44).
  2. Third hour: Christ was crucified (Mark 15:25).
  3. Three people were crucified at Calvary (John 19:18).
  4. Three languages were used (Hebrew, Greek, and Latin) in expressing the words on a sign that said, “JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.” (John 19:20). This sign was displayed upon the cross during Christ’s crucifixion.
  5. Three Mary’s were present at His crucifixion (John 19:25).
  6. Three hours of darkness (Matthew 27:45).
  7. Three words were spoken last by Jesus (“It is finished”) as recorded in John’s gospel. Note: These last words are different in the other gospels.
  8. Three PM, Jesus dies. Jesus died at the ninth hour (Mark 15:34). The 9th hour is 3:00PM in our Modern-day understanding of time.
  9. Three things came out of Christ’s body when He died:
    (a) His spirit (Matthew 27:50).
    (b) His blood (John 19:34).
    (c) His water (John 19:34) (Also see: 1 John 5:8).

The Number Three and the Burial of Christ:

Jesus said He would be 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth (Matthew 12:40).

The Number Three and The Resurrection:
  1. Jesus was risen from the dead three days later (Luke 9:22) (Luke 24:46).
  2. All three persons of the Trinity (i.e. the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost) took part in the resurrection. God the Father raised up Jesus (Acts 2:24, Acts 2:32). The Holy Spirit raised up Jesus (Romans 8:11, 1 Peter 3:18). Jesus raised up Himself (John 2:19, John 10:18).
  3. Jesus said, “Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.” (John 20:17). The number of words Jesus said to Mary was 36 in relation to His rising to the Father. 36 is a multiple of threes (12 x 3 = 36).

Some folks take numbers in the Bible to a weird extreme like Jon G. Rov (who has a King James Bible museum in the Pheonix, Arizona area). I prefer Brandon Peterson. Most of his studies are pretty good, although I do not agree with everything he says.

I would check out his number 7 video, and his 1611 video.
Brandon ends his 1611 video with the gospel message.
But I would watch the number 7 video first.

Side Note:

Not sure about the number 37. It may have signifance because 3 and 7 are really big important numbers in the Bible. Again, I normally do not get into number studies on my own (Except for the number 3 study I did above). There are so many other studies I feel are more important. I generally just watch videos by others on this topic (like Brandon Peterson and some of Mike Hoggard - although I do not agree with Mike Hoggard on many things). There are also many things to do for Christ's kingdom that should be our goal in life to do (Like telling others the good news, preaching the Word, helping the poor, or unfortunate, loving the brethren, etcetera).

I hope that what I said helps.

May you be blessed in the LORD.

I cannot be the first person in life to tell you that you have a major problem in properly reading everything in what people say. I say this not to wound you but I am simply speaking the truth to you in love. So seeing this a problem, I am moving on from having any direct discussion with you.

That's because when I see people espousing false doctrine I quit reading the rest of what they have to say.

This is because the Spirit of Truth (Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ) leads me to not sit under false doctrine.

To all:

I do not necessarily share the view that the English supersedes the Hebrew and Greek. There are manuscripts that have passed away in the 1666 London fire. The major point of the number 7 video by Brandon Peterson is to show that God’s book is divine in nature.

To all those readers here who don’t know what happened after the disciples obtained two swords.

Matthew 26:52-53 KJV
Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

Luke 22:50-51 KJV
And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

The fatal flaw of KJV-onlyism is that it is an ignorant back-woods idea made up by preachers or others some time after the KJV was translated, and not part of 'the faith once delivered to the saints. The apostles did teach it. The Bible doesn't teach it. People got saved through believing the word of God before King James was born.
Those that hang on to this false understanding should educate themselves as I did. I learned that most English translations of the Old Testament, including the KJV, came from the partially corrupted Masoretic Text. When the Masorite Priests translated the Greek Scriptures into Modern Hebrew around the 9th century AD, they changed the begetting ages in Gen 5 and 11 by around 1250 years. i.e., Gen 5:3 "When Adam was 130, he beget Shem." The Septuagint says Adam was 230, and so on.

I believe that the Holy Scriptures written by men, but inspired by the Holy Spirit, are innerrant. However, the many translations since then are not innerrant.

That's a contradiction because Jesus would not tell them to get a sword and then turn around and say having a sword is somehow wrong.

The lesson here is trusting God for protection always come first but self defense is not a sin even though it could result in the other guy also having a weapon and killing you.

Jesus never says those that die by the sword were involved in sinful behavior or were rejected by the Lord.

If that was the case then Jesus never would have told them to get a sword in the first place.

To all:

We are living in a world where people today reject certain parts of the Word and or they do not believe all of what the Bible says. If the Bible does not align with their thinking they will just reject those parts of Scripture they don’t like. What else can we expect in these last days.

Lord have mercy.

This comes from a Modern Scholar who got you doubt God’s promises in that His words are pure and they would be preserved forever. People see error because they want to see error. I prefer to believe the Bible over the traditions of men. At the Judgment, God is not going to ask me (or imply as such using other words) if I trusted the scholar or the scribe. He is going to ask if I trusted in His Word.

Don't get me wrong, I do trust His Word completely down to the "Jot and tittle" as Chuck Missler used to say. My point here was about not putting faith in only "a specific translated version" of the Bible, like many do with the KJV. God has miraculously preserved His Word, including His promises, down through the ages, in spite of man's errors, whether intentional or not.

Uh, that’s contradiction, unless you’re talking about the jot and tittle being present in the non-existent originals.

If God preserved His Word right down to the jot and tittle, that means there exists today a set of His perfect words. You said the Hebrew has been corrupted and therefore God’s Word has not been preserved down to the jot and tittle if such is the case.

As for Chuck Missler and the KJV:

He said it is the only trustworthy translation.
