I have learned some flavors just do not go well together.

I make boiled custard, a gallon at a time. I've used vanilla, chocolate peanut butter, almond extract, etc. for flavoring. One time I thought I'd try anise...

BIG mistake! Licorice and boiled egg should never, ever, ever be combined.

I love custard! I like to put nutmeg on mine.

Anise makes me think of pfeffernusse. I had too much going on last holiday season to make any. Admittedly, I've made plenty of pfeffernusse without anise and they are just as tasty (imo). Black pepper, on the other hand, is an absolute must in pfeffernusse. I wish I had some right now...or some custard...or both.

Yes! I think they are great with coffee! But then, I think everything is great with coffee :coffee:

I have German ancestors, pretty far back though. A German man came here and had a tribal marriage with the daughter of a Chieftess who was allied with Washington, they had a son who served in the Revolutionary War and my maternal family history began...so it's quite a ways back! So, I must say I got the recipe I use from the internet. Since it's been some years since I found the recipe I use, I can't remember where online I got it and unfortunately my recipes notes and binder are currently out of state, but the recipe I use looks pretty similar to Amanda's from I Am Baker except the recipe I use calls for anise...

Earthquake on Good Friday in Oklahoma (not very big though).
Very windy. Just the other day it was snowing, but today it's warm and shorts & a tshirt is all the apparel you need.
Basically, typical Oklahoma.

in north ga, this time of year, the weather is pine pollen.

a yellow dust that coats everything outside.

example- a " high pollen count" ( the amount of pollen in the air) is 500.

yesterday, the count for my area was 4900.

today, it was " down" to 1600.

I hope you aren't suffering too much from all the pollen!

I've been to north GA twice in the fall, very beautiful. I don't think I've been north of the ATL metro in the spring.

Here in northern OK, our weather isn't real descriptive about the pollen. It just says very high due to mulberry, oak, and hickory. My eyes and sinuses are always irritated, so I can't tell the difference lol

taking allergy meds, so not too bad.

but, even on nice days, you have to keep the doors and windows shut tight, as you do not want everything in house covered in a yellow film....

It was in the 80s today and I had the a/c on long enough to cool things down a bit.

I just text aloud this and it should be the East Coast of Spain. I have no idea where that other place is.
