I do not know how it ended up that way....

But, here is the original that I quoted from.

How it happened? I can not say for sure.
I only intended to respond to what was said...

My apologies just the same...

grace and peace/....
Thank you for humbly acknowledging this. I forgive you.

Unbelievable! :eek::oops:

It's your unwillingness to hear what is being said that is offensive. I am not ashamed of the Gospel. I have said the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation. I have said faith is a gift of God. I have said we are saved by grace through faith. Not good enough for you? You have some need to continue beating people over the head with your understanding and if they don't agree with you fully they must somehow not be saved?

I am not here to conform to your standards of truth, I don't have to answer to you. I have explained in quite a bit of detail how a man is saved by grace through faith. Try listening to what is being said to you. You might find out there is some degree of error in your thinking.
yet you still can not answer a simple question about assurance.

Do you realise that Scripture warns about those who can mentally affirm truth statements but do not actually have saving faith?

Are you prepared to die for Christ this very minute if challenged to do so?

Can you supply chapter and verse, please?

Mat 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?'
Mat 7:23 And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'
Mat 7:24 "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
Mat 7:25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
Mat 7:26 "But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:
Mat 7:27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."

How can a person who thinks that they have a free will and are therefore independent and autonomous from God truly expect to have their prayers for the salvation of other answered?

That is specific in what kind of person will end up that way.
There is a supernatural power working with them. Not simply belief.

Here is one who walks that way.....

They were unable to believe it......

No humility = no grace from God.
In retrospect, I could have chosen a better verse. But the one given...Matthew 7:21-23...works.

But there is nothing in those verses either to suggest they believed the Gospel. Lot's of people believe Jesus existed or He was a good man or that He was executed by the Romans, none of which leads to salvation.

The Gospel unto salvation is specific as outlined in it's first importance in 1Cor.15:3-4.

1 Cor.15
3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

You can believe whatever you want about Jesus but only the Gospel saves.

Those people made much of their relationship with Jesus. You can believe they didn't give assent to the gospel if you like. I don't buy it.

I am glad to hear that and sincerely pray that you, and I, and all who call themselves followers of Christ are granted the grace of God to do so.

I read records in Scripture of people spoken of in Heb 11:33-38 and think to myself "I wonder how I would react if I were in a similar situation ... would I be like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego? ... or would I be like Peter (deny with an oath)?

Right now, at this moment, I completely trust God and know that He works within me in my most trying situations, He will never leave my side and will walk through the valleys with me ... yet I know Peter felt the same way about himself (though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee) ... so I always keep in mind that my walk in this life is not year by year or day by day, but moment by moment. There is never a moment when my complete trust should not be in God Who watches over me and wants nothing but for me to give Him my whole heart and not hold anything back from Him.

If they had indeed believed the Gospel they would have been saved unless you think God doesn't keep His word. (and I know you don't think that)

I appreciate what you have said here and I did not give my reply lightly. I am not so arrogant to think there isn't a point at which I might break but I have faced a number of experiences where I could easily be dead now.

My only thought when faced with death now is "to live is Christ, to die is profit". :)
