Hey Everyone,

I may or may not own a little guy who looks exactly like this:

(What can I say, I enjoy the simple things in life.)

His name is Winston.

I have an ongoing... discussion... with a friend about what color Winston is.

My friend says Winston is mint green.

I say Winston is turquoise (mix of green and blue, leaning more blue.)

* What do YOU all think? What color is Winston?

I personally find color, and all aspects of it to be fascinating.

* Do you have colors you have a hard time telling apart? (peach vs. pink, lavender vs. purple, blues vs. green, etc.)

* Are there any time when you have others pick out colors for/instead of you because you can't describe/tell what they are?

* Does anyone struggle with color blindness, and what have your experiences been? I once knew a guy who could only see variations of white, black, and gray, so when he was driving, he had to go by whether the top, middle, or lowest light was on. I'm not sure what he did for flashing arrows of varying color though. Has anyone else dealt with this?

* Do you dream in color, black and white, or both?

I'll go with turquoise. Winston is a reasonable Owl.

It looks like a light shade of blue to me. I see no green mixed in there.

Of Winston is mint green, the person saying thus don't know how mint green looks like. Turquoise or perhaps light petrol. And white, of course

For those reading...

Winston is my emotional support stuffed animal/travel buddy. Sometimes (turbulence on planes, motion sickness, etc.) I just need something tactile/tangible to grasp while experiencing anxiety and nausea.

A few members of this forum have met Winston in person.

Rodney is one of Winston's favorites. :geek:

This is super interesting to me!

I must be out of the loop but I'd never heard of "petrol" as a color (I just always thought of "petroleum.")

I had to look it up (this was listed as a "petrol color palette"):

Very nice.

Thank you for mentioning it!

My nerdy attitude towards colors and fibers comes from knitting... And I have made some petrol wrist warmers and hats in alpaca

It appears to be a shade of blue to me.

Dreams are fascinating! I dream in color.

This is NOT the shade he is in real life. I have seen the fuzzy little football in person.

Either your phone has a hue bias or you photoshopped it. Either way, that picture is not an accurate representation of his tint.

Hold him next to that picture on the screen and you'll see a perceptible difference.

Also, why does he look like he is waiting for a snack? Or if not that, waiting for a ride or something. He is definitely looking at you with expectation.

Winston maintains his right to identify as turquoise.

However, I begrudgingly have to admit that when searching for pictures, I came across several of the "newer" version (yellow beak; my Winston has an orange beak) that actually does look closer to mint green.

But, they're NOT my version. :p

That's just a hallmark of their breed (turquoise owls.) They're natural grazers!

(The joke behind "my" Winston is that he has quite a few wrinkles, and even my Mom said the stuffing machine must have run out when they got to him because he looks slightly understuffed.)

So that's become a standing joke -- Winston is always hungry, and if you happen to be having something he likes... He might just sit there next to you for a while, hoping you will share. :geek:

P.S. I know it sounds ridiculous to have a backstory for a stuffed owl. But Winston has a bit of an attitude and people seem to get a kick out of. We visited one CC friend who is an excellent cook. Winston told her, "You're so beautiful, Miss Poppy. Especially in your natural habitat -- the kitchen."

He got a little bit of a scolding for that!

I love making people laugh... And I've found that I can get away with a whole lot more if I try to say it was the critter who said it! :D

I'm not even talking about his reputation. In the picture alone, with no history at all, he looks expectant. Not needy, not whiny or anything, just like he naturally expects something will be given to him to eat.

Unfortunately, I'm not nearly as successful at getting results when I try to engage this look.

YOU are a human. You have to TALK. Chatting people up is how you get snacks.

Winston can't teach you it. It is a gift, not something you can learn.

A couple of times, I offered him food. But he wouldn't eat if I was looking at him. 🤷

You can see why Rodney is one of Winston's favorite people here on the forum. :D

He's a little self-conscious though. He doesn't like eating if he feels like he's being stared at.

He sure wanted some of that cow tongue, but seoulsearch wouldn't let him have any. She's forcing him to be vegetarian against his nature. And I have to agree with the cat, that photo is not an accurate representation of Winston's color. The photo is blue winston is more seafoam colored
