Thank you! I've always enjoyed hearing the story of how you and your husband met, and your life before that in the traveling music ministry. I kind of stumbled into apologetics when I discovered the religion forums on myspace back in 2007. I was fairly new in my Christian walk at the time... I had found a young man who played a really smashing rendition of Mason Williams's Classical Gas on YouTube, and he had a lot of critics that he was having a hard time dealing with, so I was encouraging and supporting him there, and then found him on myspace also. On myspace I could see people had friends, and being as I was really kind of new to the whole online chat experience, had wondered, how do you even make friends on a site like this??? And then I discovered the boards. A whole new world opened up to me!

You may recall that they had a religion and philosophy section called, well, it was affectionately known as the RnP. It had three subforums, two of which were for religion, and that's where I found my home for almost four years, speaking mostly to a large variety of unbelievers: agnostics, atheists, secular humanists, wiccans, polytheists, people who claimed to be satanists... you name it, they were all there trying to make me go away right from the start LOL. I found it incredibly engaging, and I was immediately hooked. I was there to the very day that all the boards were deleted and went away after the site was sold to be reclaimed for its original purpose of connecting musicians with other musicians.

After that I went to CARM, for almost the same amount of time. Matt Slick runs that site and he actually joined Christian Chat at one point, but didn't stay for long... anyway, he had a really wide variety of forums there for all types of Christianity, including those that deny the Deity of Christ, and there was also a full forum for atheists, agnostics, and secular humanists, and that's where I spent the majority of my time there.

Sometimes I think it would benefit a lot of Christians online if they spent time speaking to such people... I know I certainly learned a lot. After my almost eight years of speaking almost exclusively to them online, I tired of it, and that was when I found CC. I am surprised I had never found it before when I searched out such things. Any who, that did not really answer your question...

Yes, I am on the wet west coast now, but I was born and raised in southern Ontario, which I left in my early twenties, hitch-hiking out west with two of my friends, a trip which took us five days; that is as fast as taking the train LOL. We had amazing rides all the way! In fact, we were given a start by being driven by other friends to the western side of Toronto, and as we were unloading our gear (knapsacks and guitars) from the car, way across the greenspace, like at least a couple of hundred yards away, a car stopped alongside the edge of the highway and waited fover us. And I cannot remember if it was outside Jasper, Banff, or Golden, we walked along the highway for about a mile to get past all the other people hitch hiking, and then a vehicle came along and picked us up at the end of the line! Eh, I am not making a case for people to hitch hike, no, not at all. I would discourage it. However, I hitch hiked a lot in my youth, it being just one of many, shall we say, high risk behaviors in which I partook. I will also add that my trip out west was the very last time I ever hitch hiked.

I did used to read a lot. I found a good book extremely difficult to put down. When my siblings might be squabbling over what to watch on the television, I would go to my room and read. It isn't that I did not enjoy watching TV. I just didn't enjoy fighting, or any type of confrontational behaviour. Rading was a great escape.

It's funny how you mention risky behavior. I think of how God kept us in all our travel. We went to so many places we had never been. Pulled up to the church and stayed there over night. No protection, just a big German Shepard who's name was Zorro. lol

I'm sure I probably have been in the part of Ontario you're from. I never made it out west though. I have always wanted to see that part of our country. People have said it is beautiful. It's on my bucket list for sure!

I remember reading a lot on Carm. I read a lot on apologetics also. That was before I heard of Josh Mc Dowell or Lee Strobel. I have several of Lee's books. I agree with you about talking to unbelievers and engaging with people about faith. It really does cause you to dig into the Word and know what you believe and why you believe it. My cousin is an atheist. He won't speak to me now, but I had given him Lee's books. I hope he still has them and pray one day he will come back to the Lord.

Wow, I wish I could play guitar like that! Amazing! I know what you mean about a whole new world online. When I joined CC my hubby didn't want me to use my real name, he was very skeptical. I invited him to read along but he just wanted me to be safe.

I do understand your love of reading, my mother is a reader and she passed it on to me. I can't read as much as I use to, I think I probably need glasses. My pride won't let me just yet. lol Thanks for sharing about your life! I knew it would be interesting!

@Magenta -Thank you so much, I really appreciate what you said! Alas, I also have no wisdom but what I have been granted...but I did ask Him for whatever He would grant, and the wisdom to wield the wisdom wisely lol . Every now and then one of your posts makes me do a double-take, like when you mention a purple streak in your hair or start rattling off botanical latin, lol ....I hate to break it to ya but I think we might be half twins .

@notmyown and @ThereRoseaLamb -thank you so much for your stories, they made me tear up! Your husbands sound amazing. I would love to hear about y'alls first dates with them if you are willing to share! :coffee::giggle:

@RodB651 and @Cameron143 -my hat's off to you both, I'm not sure there's a harder job on the planet than being a single working parent. Would either of you be willing to share a story where your sense of humor got you through a situation that made you feel like screaming?

@GaryA -what is the square root of pickles?

@Kireina -it's always nice to see you drop by :). I feel like I don't know you very well, though! Which Bible character do you most identify with?

@cinder -you have been tasked with awarding one million dollars to someone you know (either here or in real life). Who gets it?

@Subhumanoidal -what is the best advice ever gave or received?

@melita916 -if you hadn't forgotten the ice cream, what flavor would it have been? Also, what has surprised you most about being a mom?

@seoulsearch -we have all chipped in to send you on a trip around the world! :D Cost is no object because @FollowerofShiloh is covering most of it . Where would you go, what would you see, what method of travel would you use, and who would you visit?

@17Bees -do you really keep bees, and why only 17?

@tourist -I think you said you met your current wife here on CC? How did that work, was it back when the chat rooms were still up, or did ya have to send her a flirty forum message? (or maybe she sent YOU one! :sneaky::cool::p)

@Lynx -Salvage grocery stores are the BEST! I wish there was one closer to where I live :cautious:. What was your most memorable find?

@stingray72 -if you could own any car in the world, would you still choose a stingray?

@icequeen -have you ever been to a glacier?

@Cold -dude, you're hilarious! Ever considered doing standup or improv?

@stingray72 -if you could own any car in the world, would you still choose a stingray?

Ive actually thought about this with the business God promised me and the success there in but believe it or not i would want some type of electric car mostly for the gas savings and some for the extra immediate performance gains. At first i wanted a tesla plaid a car that is 120k to buy but i dont want to be one of those people that uses what God gives for extravagance I want what were about to be about ministry first and foremost.....i used to however dream of a 65 mustang fastback but a stingray would do just fine too when i was into that.

Haha! Oh, I know I mentioned that purple streak in my hair making me happy LOL.
I do not recall when I mentioned it here, but the streak itself
must have been over
eight years ago. I am not big on talking about myself, but over the years and especially
when speaking about family matters, I am sure I have said lots. It would be an honour
to be your half twin! I have a twin brother so now we can almost be triplets LOL.
See? You were wise to ask to wield your wisdom wisely. :)

I can't think of anything at the moment. There were many times I wasn't sure how we were going to make it through the week, but we did make it. 😊

@seoulsearch -we have all chipped in to send you on a trip around the world! :D Where would you go, what would you see, what method of travel would you use, and who would you visit?
Boy, is there ever a generous crowd here!!! :D

*Seoulsearch brings all her hidden skeletons out of the closet, including her reading glasses, her cane, AND, most important, her everlasting, mega-sized tub of prunes.*

When I was younger, I would have absolutely JUMPED at a chance like this. I would have been absolutely ecstatic! These days, I'd like to think I'm not THAT old, but I do think I've become much more realistic about my own limitations.

Nowadays, I'm very prone to motion sickness, nausea (sometimes brought on by temperature changes, etc.,) and have lots of sensitivities to unfamiliar foods and beverages, so unfortunately, I would have to be careful about everything. I like all forms of transportation but flying has unfortunately become such a hassle that I never look forward to it anymore (and I used to love flying.)

I think what I'd really love to do is get a big group of CC friends together and go on one of those world cruises, though I don't think I could last 3 years, as some of them advertise. But from what I've read, if you want, you can hop off the ship, go and do your own thing, then meet back up with it at another port. I like the idea of a ship because I wouldn't have to worry about hauling my luggage around to a new hotel every couple of weeks. Though I do love hotels, even though every room is pretty much the same thing.

Hmm. Maybe friends who got bored could swap rooms every few weeks after they were cleaned. I've seen some videos and there seems to be some interesting variety (views, setups, etc.) in the available cabins.

The best part for me would be hearing about the places people wanted to go and exploring them together. I'm pretty flexible about what I'd be interested in, and someone else's excitement would have a big influence on my choices.

And how fun would it be for everyone to be able to do their own thing on board, but still hang out whenever we want to! I love the idea of spending a day in my room, just reading and writing -- but then going to some amazing place the next day with friends.

It would truly be an introverts-who-occasionally-masquerades-as-an-extrovert's dream!

Thank you so much for asking! And @Snackersmom, your memory and powers of observation are absolutely astounding!!! I can think of several questions I could ask people, but it would only be after spending hours, days, maybe even weeks of researching posts to try to make sure I had the information straight before I asked.

The fact that you can remember, organize, and ask so many people so many questions that are spot-on about their lives is AMAZING.

Like @RodB651 I can't think of a particular incident of such. But I've seldom come to a point of screaming. But humor and wit are always good tools in any relationship. What I did find is that letting kids express things in their own language is important.
We would eat dinner together usually 5 nights a week and would read through the Bible. After reading a passage, I would let them take turns telling the story in their own words. Their renditions of the account could be quite humorous. Some would even include voices for characters. It was a fun way to learn.

@Snackersmom That's easy. Cashew juice. I never knew cashew was a fruit. And cashew nuts are not really nuts. They are seeds that grow on the ends of cashew fruit.

I can see why cashew fruit never caught on here. Sour, faintly bitter stuff. I did not finish the jar of juice. Interesting experience though, and I learned something.

@seoulsearch -I totally get it on the flying thing...we'll just have to send you on the Seoul-train! I hear it doesn't need tracks, so you can take it anywhere you want to go .

And thanks about the observation/memory, I do have a really good social memory but I forget that it's not normal and might weird some people out lol . I'm very visual, so here on the forums where it's mostly just text my mind paints pictures/collages of the members and new details get added as I find out more about the person. For instance, @Susanna has a picture up, so I have a good idea of what she looks like. I always see her on a motorcycle, but she's never riding alone. There's 2 men accompanying her, one beside and slightly behind, and the other back in the distance a little ways. I can't see their faces but they both care about her. I think one might be Jesus and the other her late husband. And there's a rose tied to the back of her motorcycle. it's kind of tattered and frayed by the elements, but definitely still a rose.

Or people who seem to have a lot of baggage come out in their typing, I might see them with dark disapproving figures in their background, or they're just sitting in a dark room. I don't mean any of that in a "seer" sense or anything like that.... just something my brain does trying to fill in gaps and paint a clearer picture of who a person is. I'd be curious if anyone else here experiences that as well .

@seed_time_harvest @fizzyjoe @Sculpt @Soyeong @Faceless_Nameless @TabinRivCA @Karlon -y'alls screen-names intrigue me. Anyone care to share how/why they chose what they did, meaning, etc? :coffee::giggle:

Yes, CDs, I do have some laying around. We just made our own during the end. My sister got married and didn't want travel so I continued with my father till I got married. He joined a male quartet. I would have to ask Dad, I do believe he may have a few in a box. It's funny to look back at those CD covers now. Almost melancholy, it was a big part of our life for a long time.
Sooooo... Would you sell some guy on a forum a few copies?

Or do you have any tracks posted on youtube?
