@notmyown I first want to say that i told my mother she was meant to be a mom and i think she understood what was meant by that statement but what would you say the most rewarding thing about mother hood is for you?
how much time do you have? :giggle:

six of our children grew to be adults, thanks be to God. it's been such a privilege to see how different they are, and yet how much they love one another. they have a private group on facebook our son has named "sibling thrivalry".
i can't say what a comfort it it, as my husband and i approach the day we'll leave the land of the dying and go to the land of the living, that they have each other to depend on. and i can't say how much i've learned through them. we homeschooled them, but they've been the teachers far more than we ever were.

oh, and grandchildren! lol

isn't our Lord just wonderful?

Your good man so you work out that's good. How long have you made that a part of your life?
Oh... No no no, I don't go to a gym. I've just heard about it.

I did bike to my job for three years or so, because I decided it was time to do something about this belly. But that was another three years ago, because biking is impractical for me right now, so that belly is starting to come back. It was 14 miles one way, in west Tennessee, so it was effective, I will give it that.

I started biking because the alternatives were getting fatter or reducing what I eat, neither of which is appealing. I chose biking because I knew I wouldn't make myself do any other exercises. When you're a third of the way to w*rk you can't just say "Eh, that's enough for today" and quit. Also I need an objective, not just exercising for the sake of exercise. I need to be going TO w*rk, not just pedaling around the block 28 times.

Ok, I'll ask the first questions..... please forgive me if any of these are too nosy, nobody is obligated to answer!

@Susanna -what kind of motorcycle do you ride?

@Magenta -can you share a random bit of wisdom from your life's experiences?

@Lynx -what food do you most regret trying?

@notmyown -please tell us something most people don't know about motherhood

@stingray72 -have you always had such a positive outlook, or did God have to bring you around to it?

@HealthAndHappiness -what is your favorite hike/trail in West Virginia?

@Cameron143 -what is the most important lesson you learned from being a single Dad?

@Oncefallen -why do you put up with us? (this isn't a joke, I really am curious!)

@ThereRoseaLamb -you once mentioned meeting your husband on Myspace. Tell us your story? :giggle:

Edit- I did NOT ask the first questions, Seoul beat me to it!

Yes, my husband and I did meet on Myspace. The now defunct Myspace. I wasn't looking to date, he said he wasn't either. Somehow, and we don't recall who made the first move, we came across each other and started to talk. It was just a nice friendship, someone to talk to at the end of the day. After a while he began sending me little pretty things, roses mainly, since that is my middle name. And me, well I'm still in the friend zone not seeing the subtle change.

But I recall one night I was talking about someone I had dated about a year. I was complaining about how hurt and betrayed I felt and what a horrible person he was. Suddenly my now husband had had enough, and it takes a lot to get him to that point! He said " Listen I don't care about the last person you were with and frankly I'm tired of hearing about him!! It's time for you to get over it!!" Wow, did that hurt my little feelings!! Then he said " Do you not see that I am interested in you?! That it upsets me when you talk about another man!?" Well shoot fire, I hadn't seen that coming at all. Yes, I seriously have no game when it comes to dating. He said " Why do you think I come here every night after work and look all over the internet to find the perfect rose to send you??!" Awwww, I didn't realize he had done that! I felt bad then. I apologized and we got over that hump and decided to meet and see where it went.

Now the first date was rather funny. I was from Canada, he from KY. But that is another story. ;)

@Magenta I think we come from opposite ends of the country. I sense you've had an interesting life, you're always very knowledgeable on many subjects. Are you a reader like me or have you traveled much? There are some people that have a gift to be able to converse on many different subjects and I've always admired that in you. :)

side note: there were days when Mark would come home from work, take one look at me, and gently ask, "is there a friend who would like to meet you for coffee at the diner this evening? i can take dinner, bath time, and bedtime today; you just relax." that's teamwork, too. makes me wonder just what my face looked like those days, lol.

@notmyown , @ThereRoseaLamb --

Ladies,

Could we take these traits from your husbands and make a clone?

No reason in particular.

I'm uh, asking for a friend.

They do sound similar. I'm a work at home wife, but my parents have had illness so I spend part of my day at their place. Last night hubby made me a special little pizza, just the way I like it, with pineapple. After working all day because he didn't "want me to do too much". Later I had to sneak into the kitchen to empty the dishwasher and clean up supper before he caught me. I tell him about every day what a blessing he is. He's taking me to see my great nephew for July 4th weekend, he's 5 month old. I can't say enough good about my hubby.

@ThereRoseaLamb,

I know you've shared before that you got married at an older age? I've always loved your story because of that -- it wasn't the typical thing we singles are told, like, "Oh, just go to Bible college and you'll meet someone in your 20's." It tells people that God works in many ways, at many different ages and stages of life.

I love the stories you and @notmyown share. I can't really describe it but...

Maybe it's like my friend Lee, whom I've been talking about. She has a very envious life in many ways, but she doesn't show it off in any way. She talks to you like an equal, and not like you're less of a person for having different things. Rather, she makes the listener feel motivated to make a difference in the world, and to affirm the goodness of God.

And that's how I feel when I read yours and NotMyOwn's posts. ❤️

I always appreciate you sharing!

Yes, I married in my 40s. I had been in traveling ministry for 20+yrs before I met my hubby. Which is kind of weird because I have this whole life of being on stage in front of people, have several CDs that we made, travel between Canada and America and people who knew me in that life. So it's odd for my hubby when once in a while I'm asked to walk up to the stage and sing. lol He thinks its amazing, and he patiently listens to my "road stories" of which I have many. God blessed us to meet many wonderful people. If you have ever heard the song "The Lighthouse" or " When He Was on the Cross" we became good friends with the man who wrote those songs. He often calls my father to encourage him in ministry. This blows my hubby's mind a little bit. These people are so down to earth that we have known for many years. Hubby said "the church I attend with my Mom, nobody spoke to the pastor, he was like God"! So he's a little struck with the life I lived before I knew him. I'll go to a concert and everybody is coming up and hugging me and he just gets a kick out of it now. He never got jealous, he thinks it's pretty "cool" to have lived such a different life. He loves music and he actually wanted to do studio work or work in radio before we met but it didn't turn out.

So I said all that to say that no, I didn't sit and wait on a husband. I heard a lady say once that was in missions that God had given her the "gift" of singleness. And I thought that I probably had the same thing as years passed and nothing changed. I was so involved, traveling and meeting new people, a different town every night. I didn't even stop to think or worry about a husband. I would always joke that he wouldn't be able to keep up with me anyway. I had people, mostly family and church folks I grew up with, whisper or talk behind my back about me getting older and still being single. But I didn't want to be a housewife. In fact that's the last thing I wanted to be. So when I fell for my hubby everybooooody knew it was for real. Because today I am a happy housewife and the biggest compliment my hubby gives me is "you make our house a home". It took me a hot minute to learn it all, but I didn't. lol I miss traveling sometimes but I don't long for it. God closed that door and opened this one. Now I have to look for different ways to minister. But God blessed me to live two very different lives and I wouldn't change either.

Yes, my husband and I did meet on Myspace.

@Magenta I think we come from opposite ends of the country. I sense you've had an interesting life, you're always very knowledgeable on many subjects. Are you a reader like me or have you traveled much? There are some people that have a gift to be able to converse on many different subjects and I've always admired that in you. :)
Thank you! I've always enjoyed hearing the story of how you and your husband met, and your life before that in the traveling music ministry. I kind of stumbled into apologetics when I discovered the religion forums on myspace back in 2007. I was fairly new in my Christian walk at the time... I had found a young man who played a really smashing rendition of Mason Williams's Classical Gas on YouTube, and he had a lot of critics that he was having a hard time dealing with, so I was encouraging and supporting him there, and then found him on myspace also. On myspace I could see people had friends, and being as I was really kind of new to the whole online chat experience, had wondered, how do you even make friends on a site like this??? And then I discovered the boards. A whole new world opened up to me!

You may recall that they had a religion and philosophy section called, well, it was affectionately known as the RnP. It had three subforums, two of which were for religion, and that's where I found my home for almost four years, speaking mostly to a large variety of unbelievers: agnostics, atheists, secular humanists, wiccans, polytheists, people who claimed to be satanists... you name it, they were all there trying to make me go away right from the start LOL. I found it incredibly engaging, and I was immediately hooked. I was there to the very day that all the boards were deleted and went away after the site was sold to be reclaimed for its original purpose of connecting musicians with other musicians.

After that I went to CARM, for almost the same amount of time. Matt Slick runs that site and he actually joined Christian Chat at one point, but didn't stay for long... anyway, he had a really wide variety of forums there for all types of Christianity, including those that deny the Deity of Christ, and there was also a full forum for atheists, agnostics, and secular humanists, and that's where I spent the majority of my time there.

Sometimes I think it would benefit a lot of Christians online if they spent time speaking to such people... I know I certainly learned a lot. After my almost eight years of speaking almost exclusively to them online, I tired of it, and that was when I found CC. I am surprised I had never found it before when I searched out such things. Any who, that did not really answer your question...

Yes, I am on the wet west coast now, but I was born and raised in southern Ontario, which I left in my early twenties, hitch-hiking out west with two of my friends, a trip which took us five days; that is as fast as taking the train LOL. We had amazing rides all the way! In fact, we were given a start by being driven by other friends to the western side of Toronto, and as we were unloading our gear (knapsacks and guitars) from the car, way across the greenspace, like at least a couple of hundred yards away, a car stopped alongside the edge of the highway and waited for us. And I cannot remember if it was outside Jasper, Banff, or Golden, we walked along the highway for about a mile to get past all the other people hitch hiking, and then a vehicle came along and picked us up at the end of the line! Eh, I am not making a case for people to hitch hike, no, not at all. I would discourage it. However, I hitch hiked a lot in my youth, it being just one of many, shall we say, high risk behaviors in which I partook. I will also add that my trip out west was the very last time I ever hitch hiked.

I did used to read a lot. I found a good book extremely difficult to put down. When my siblings might be squabbling over what to watch on the television, I would go to my room and read. It isn't that I did not enjoy watching TV. I just didn't enjoy fighting, or any type of confrontational behaviour. Rading was a great escape.

Sorry... Did you say CDs?

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Yes, CDs, I do have some laying around. We just made our own during the end. My sister got married and didn't want travel so I continued with my father till I got married. He joined a male quartet. I would have to ask Dad, I do believe he may have a few in a box. It's funny to look back at those CD covers now. Almost melancholy, it was a big part of our life for a long time.
