Hey Eveyrone,

A long time ago when I was a kid, my Dad once went to the fridge for a jar of pickles.

But instead of a delectable, crunchy delight, he opened the jar and found -- used paper towels. Table scraps. And peach pits. In other words... he found the pickle jar my Mom had been using as a trash receptable after lunch, then accidentlly put back into the fridge. We all got a good laugh out of it because of my Dad's reaction, and we still bring it up to this day.

A few days ago, I mysteriously found a bottle of glue in my fridge. And I have sometimes found boxes of leftovers in my storage closet. I'd like to say it's someone else who is going crazy and misplacing all these things, but unfortunately, I'm the only one who dwells in this particular space.

What stories do you have of some of the strangest things you or others have misplaced -- and the even stranger places where they were found? :)

All I know about this topic is two things:

1. There are these two women who stay with Grandma while I'm not here. One takes three days and the other takes the other two days. If there are dishes in the draining rack when I leave, no TELLING where they'll be when I get back. I may have to measure ingredients with a different measuring cup than the one I prefer. Or sometimes I have to open a can with a knife instead of the can opener. (No I'm not kidding. Good thing we got so many knives that they can't hide them all.)

2. When I pick up an old flash drive that I haven't used in half a year or more, sometimes I take a look at the files I left on it before I wipe them out and do whatever I need a flash drive for. It's like a time warp. "Oh yeah, I remember that mod. Man, that was a lame game." "Ah, that was a good album. I got a copy in main music storage though, no reason to keep this... Well, lemme listen to track 3 real quick first."

I look forward to what I might find after my granddaughter goes home. Last time, a minnie mouse jiggly greeted me in the soup cupboard and, almost always, Gandalf's springy mouse toy is found taking a swim in his water fountain.

A couple of days ago I changed the oil on one of our vehicles. Afterwards I could not find the cap for the spot where the oil drains into the container. I've looked everywhere a dozen times. It's silly to keep looking in the same places, but I have nowhere else to look.

I gave up and went to the store to buy a new oil drain container. The type I would be replacing was one of those enclosed 15 quart types. At the store I didn't like the style of the current ones they're selling so for now I've decided I'll just keep using the one I have without that cap. Hopefully I'll stumble upon that cap in the garage one of these days.

Now this one is downright funny... Due to a stepson's poor decisions (he's doing much better now), I hid my car and gun safe keys where I knew he wouldn't find them. Unfortunately I forgot where I put them. About 6 months later almost bought a $450 replacement key for the car, but actually found them when cleaning up the guest room. They were in my "workout" shoes. I should probably work out more often...

Mama's cellphone. A month or so after I bought her a new phone, she found her lost phone in her purse.

Lol. This is adorable! I'd be leaving out extra little "surprises" for her to "hide" every time she came to visit. :D

I totally get your pain. I am constantly losing little things -- and sometime have to resort to buying replacements, which annoys the heck out of me (I hate spending money on something just because of my own forgetfulness.) Fortunately it's usually not something expensive, but in the meantime I am constantly circling around and looking.

When working around the apartment, I carry a small container of things I'm constantly using but don't want to have to keep stopping to get -- eye drops, lip balm, hand cream, pens, sticky notes, etc., along with my phone so I always know where it is. Yeah right.

I recently lost said container, but thankfully my phone wasn't in it at the time. Still, it irked me to no end and I kept going round and round, searching constantly -- and my place isn't that big. Sure, I had backups of all those things but I just hated losing something.

This past week (about a month later,) I finally found it -- wedged between a shelf and several cans of beans.

It's probably a sign -- that I need to stop thinking so much about food when I'm working.

I don't know many people who haven't lost their phone at some point in time.

And for us ladies, our purses are usually a wild west of who-knows-what... so surely a phone might is probably in their somewhere -- just behind the kitchen sink. :)

Lol!

The equivalent for me would be if someone took that key and taped it to a bag of frozen vegetables in my freezer. :p That poor thing would probably sit there until the next ice age!

How are the workouts going?

(And very glad to hear that your stepson is doing better.) (y)

I had a Costco-sized box of granola bars in my little Civic. One day I noticed they were gone. They never turned up. The best I can figure is that I maybe didn't lock my door at a friend's house and someone stole just my granola bars, but my friend lived at the end of a dead-end gravel road.

Maybe the squirrels got hungry.

Seriously though, that's an "Unsolved Mysteries" level of disappearance right there!

And I know what a bummer it is when we've paid good money for something.

Yeah, too bad Robert Stack isn't still around to seek for tips from the public on the case of the missing granola bars, cause yeah, I did pay good money for them and it was indeed quite the bummer when they disappeared.

Years ago, I was running late for work and couldn't find my car keys. Looked in the usual place that I place them each day. Not there. Then I realized, as I was searching frantically, that I was twirling them around my finger the whole time.

I don't think anyone will ever beat the story of my friend using the flashlight feature on his phone to look for his phone. It was funny, because it was believable.

That is actually getting easier to do. My phone has a "gestures" setting where if I shake it twice in a short chopping motion, the flashlight comes on. So it would be really easy to whip it out without even thinking about it, chop chop, "Hmm... Can't see that phone anywhere..."

This is a bit off topic but your story reminds me of something that happened when I was a kid.

My father was supposed to be on a diet but my step-mother continued to buy junk food.
Especially potato chips , they had a variety. Well my father couldn't deal (poor guy) so he would eat a whole bag of chips and then blow the bag back up with air put the chip clip back on it and put it back in the cupboard. I had no idea he was doing this until one day I was at their house and my step mother was in the kitchen by herself but i could hear her mumbling. I walked in and she was looking at me awkward and was looking confused. I asked what was wrong and she said all the chips were missing. Then you could hear my father laughing from the other room . He said ."it severves you righ for buying that and making me look at it."

I never knew him to be mischevious like that but I still laugh about it to this da y ...
