hello!
welcome

as you can see there's a variety of opinion here, and some people are even offended.

i would say, remember 'long' is a relative term, ha - that Paul is saying that there's a kind of natural shame for a person having long hair ((what's that? it's certainly not about hair to one's shoulders, which has been a perfectly acceptable male hairstyle for i dunno 6,000 years?)) - and that one thing everyone agrees about is that men shouldn't try to look like women or vice versa.

remember also to read on to V. 16 - - if anyone is getting contentious over hair, the churches of God have no such custom. Christianity is not about your shampoo usage, it's about belief, and what is in your heart.

welcome, again :)
If one has to ask the question, “what’s long?” then they already have a heart issue. Man always wants to push the envelope when it comes to obedience. And btw, what is acceptable to men, may not be acceptable to God.

1Cor 11:7-10 . . For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch
as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was
the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. For this cause
ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

Now we're getting into the sphere of self control. In other words; it's natural
for the women to want to look her best, but in liturgical situations she needs
to suppress her vanity a bit so as not to compete with the man for God's
attention.

* Whoever these angels are, or whatever they are, they're apparently
indignant when they see women in church acting as though they're equals
with men in the presence of God.

FAQ: Didn't Paul make hair coverings optional when he said: "But if any man
seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of
God" (1Cor 11:16)

REPLY: Apparently the Jews' synagogues, and all the rest of the Christian
churches in the Roman world, required their women to attend worship
services with something over their hair. Were the Christian women at.
Corinth allowed an exemption, they would stand out as heretics.

"Judge in yourselves: is it proper that a woman pray unto God uncovered?"
(1Cor 11:13)

The answer of course is NO! it isn't proper-- it demeans the image and glory
of God, and it's offensive to the angels who, according to Ps 8:1-5 and Heb
2:6-7, deserve a women's respect rather than her indifference to their
celestial station.

as you can see there's a variety of opinion here

Back around 1997, when I was inexperienced with forums, a guy on Lycos
took me under his wing and warned me that Bible forums are the armpit of
the internet; mostly because too many folks sincerely believe themselves
infallible and speaking for God ex cathedra. In other words: this is one of
the worst places ever for a newbie to be seeking spiritual counseling.

Ok...so im an 18 year old male. I converted to Christ two years ago so am still quite new to all this. So I don't know much in terms of general theological knowledge. With that being said, I need some help.

Ive always had super short hair, but my Girlfriend said I should grow it out, so I have been. It's currently at my shoulderblades, and I was going to go to mid back. I must admit my GF was right, I look the best I ever have. But then I read 1 Corinth 11:14. Where Paul says it's against God for a man to have long hair??? I know it's a sin for a man to look feminine, but I certainly don't. And long hair has nothing to do with that. So I'm confused.

Ive done research and I've found that nobody really knows. Some scholars say that it's fine and others say it's sinful. I don't have a pastor I can ask as I don't go to church yet (my parents are atheists) so I'm kinda stuck and just need help. Please. Someone!
I believe Paul on this matter.. Is it an unforgivable sin? Nope. But I believe Paul was inspired by God to write what He wrote..

Gods will be done..

Ok, is it wrong to shave facial hair according to the will of God? As i didn't know this. Do you mean it's wrong to shave as heathens do? How do heathens shave?
In "unbelief" to be liked and accepted by others, having the wrong motives. it goes so much deeper than shaving or doing even not doing anything
God judges us all by our motives
Matthew 7:23
And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
James 4:3
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

And we do go through troubles also, James 1

Any thoughts on if you shave because you don't really want to grow a beard? Which is pretty much why i do.

Welcome to the forum.
☕😎👍

This is one of the passages that talk about long hair on men. There is more, but this is the one that perhaps the Lord is speaking to you through.

14Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? 15But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

There is a lot of unnecessary confusion about this clear passage.
First off, there are denominations that, especially in the past held that the covering meant that women were to wear hats. The KJB defines it as hair, not hats. They will give all kinds of opinions, but God's Word is not unclear, is it?
I don't care if women want to wear a hat or not, but they should not base it in this chapter.

2. Likewise, there is unnecessary confusion about whether or not Paul is inspired or not. Some say Paul was not inspired here. Others don't like Paul and say that none of his writings and accuse him of inserting doctrines they don't like calling him a " male chauvinist pig." Yet others accuse Paul of being a Jewish shill, paid to deceive Christians and cut half the New Testament out of the Bible. They are wrong.
This is a denial of the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and His Truth. There is nothing contradictory in this chapter or with the one example of Samson. God devoted half a chapter to this issue. It is so obvious that nature itself tells us this. God speaks through nature and more specifically through His Word. If this is not true, then those who believe that should cut it out of the Bible or get a sharpie and redact it. Then, It benefits no one, since it's just the opinion of a guy like any other man's opinion.

3. Samson was brought up to me by a friend who has long hair. It doesn't affect our friendship and I don't bring it up because it doesn't affect me. I figure that if he ever decides to read his Bible from cover to cover he will come to this chapter and make his decision as to whether or not to obey it. Also, few pastors are going to say anything about distinctions between men and women. They don't want to offend those who disagree on many levels.....ie Joel Osteen.
As to Samson, he took a Nazarite vow.
That was normally done for a specific period of time and included a list of requirements. Read >Numbers 6.<.
The long hair was not an example to all us men as an attractive style. No razor was to be used for a time. Likewise a number of other requirements that nobody ever keeps who use Samson as their reason to have long hair.

4. Jesus did not have long hair.
This is an invention of a famous Roman Catholic Renaissance period painter who did a lot of work for his Pope. He was an out of the closet homosexual who had a homosexual model. People should reconsider whether they want to display Jesus as such. They do so with good intentions, but the print on the wall of our church came down when I attended. It offended a member and he quit, but that was because of his rebellious self willed behavior about a lot of things.
There is an emphasis in the Bible on sexual distinctions. The gender bending androgenous culture that got out of hand in the 1970s was accompanied by the C👁️‍🗨️A's mission to destroy the family and culture. This was successful as they were able to control our nation in large part through division and demoralization. If you want to do what the C👁️‍🗨️A wants, you need to take illegal drugs, become a homo with a feminist ideology, turn from Biblical norms and standards. They did this and much more. It has weakened men, turned wives against their husbands and led to common divorce and the slaughter of millions of unborn children. I'm not saying that those men with long hair are in lockstep with that evil organization. I am saying that this was an intentional and successful mission that Satan accomplished through them. Long hair on men and Hindu gurus in America began to be popularized by the early 1970s. Look at the picture of the Indian guru who's disciples tried to
make me into one of his followers.
1728305139078.jpeg
A devil he summoned in this cave told him how to get Americans to convert to Hinduism. He popularized the technique Hindus used for summoning the demons. Have you heard of meditation? That is what it is. He was also one of the models for the current counter culture we have today. Rock groups started wearing their hair long too (Beatles). A lot of them were queer(Queen) and intentionally cross dressed (David Bowie); just to name a few.
Has our culture improved since then or declined?

5. Someone may think it odd that the picture I chose has long hair and appears to be a man. This is something I wish that I could change. Unlike the Renaissance painters, the artist was not a homo or cross dresser. He was a very masculine artist who did a lot of hero and action oriented art. As a child, I liked the story behind the picture as it depicted a strong man attacked by a demon possessed evil villain who had just ripped the heart out of another character. The series of books was based upon the hero. I liked this for that reason and that it depicts more movement than any other still that I have ever seen. The king hair is the author's choosing and adds to the dynamic movement from head to feet.
That said, I wish the hero depicted in the picture had a haircut and was more in line with the Bible. Since I can't change it, that it is what it is. I did, however study swordsmanship all my life and am into fitness too.

If you are wondering, my high school pictures show me with long and thick hair. I looked at it yesterday. Girls have commented on it, but it really is not an issue of trying to look pretty for them or anyone else. I just want to appear as someone who is in alignment with the Bible. After highschool, I decided to change my style to a normal man's haircut. I'm due now for one and plan to cut my hair this week.

6. Guys shouldn't try to have pretty long hair. Men are to be distinct from women. Boys should look like boys. How many times have I been embarrassed and embarrassed other children who had parents who would not cut their hair? I remember Allan who in 3rd grade I stopped as he was going into the boys restroom first day at school. I didn't know. The same goes with business, at church and I often it's hard to tell what a child is in our unisex culture. Sometimes it's hard to tell with men too. Sometimes women want to look butch. It's confusing or just plain weird to see the Mona Lisa look like she's got a serious hormonal problem. Likewise, when women try to look and act masculine, it's just not natural.
I'm not saying you are effeminate.
In deciding your identity, shouldn't a Christian want to be as much as possible what the Lord designed? It doesn't matter to me friend. Since you are a Christian and the Lord has brought you here to I Corinthians, you have a choice. It's yours to make.

One rule of interpretation...
When the plain text makes common sense, so seek no other sense, lest it becomes non sense.

Have a good week!

Do you believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God? 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All scripture is inspired by God …” Whatever you do in word or deed do all in the name of the Lord. Colossians 3:17. That does not mean just saying “I do this in the name of Jesus” and then doing whatever you want. To do something in the name of Jesus means doing it bybHis authority. Example:: When someone says STOP, in the name of the law!, they mean by the AUTHORITY of the law. So, doing something religiously in the name of Jesus means doing it by His authority. Matthew 28:18-19 Jesus is speaking and He says ALL authority is given to Him in heaven and on earth.
So my advice to you is to respect what God says in His word (the Bible) because it is divine and make sure you have his authority (approval) for what you do. Don’t listen to any man, you will get a hundred different answers and end up being confused. This is not a matter for man to decide; this is a matter for God to decide. It’s Him you are trying to please and obey.

God says “My thoughts and my ways are not yours, in Isaiah 55:8-9. Therefore do not lean ( trust) in your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5-6. It’s so very important that you study and learn what God says in His book. It is our guide map to heaven. God did not write the Bible for us to just ignore what it says.

Jesus says If you LOVE him you will keep His commandments and you are His friend if you do what He says. John 14:15 and 15:14. Remember that Satan is God’s (and your) enemy. He will always tell you that you don’t have to do what God tells you to do. He works today through men.

My advice is to obey what God says. If you read the whole book of 1 Corinthians you will see that the apostle Paul says that the things he has written ARE THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD, 1 Cor. 14:37.

Scripture is clear. Nature is clear. It is a shame for a man to have long hair. And yes, the look is effeminate. Not calling you effeminate, but long hair on a man is effeminate. However, it is not a doctrinal issue that should divide believers. We have enough feminism amongst our male population today. Men should look like men, and women should look like women. There is a clear difference.
How is long hair inherently effeminate? Jason Mamoa? Any of the great Native American heroes? Like huh....?

All things after the burial, death and resurrection of Jesus for us all. Are permissible.
what?????
‘comes religion!
it is up to you, me and others to decide, seeing it is not good to drink too much, not good to burn, lust so much, you harm, cheat and steal from others.
free to decide to cut, shave, bathe, be decent or not. You get to choose freely., in love and mercy to all, given you by God, not man.
now, if”I’ harm anyone else on purpose, especially, then”I “ am out of line in the call, to have mercy for all, over sacrifice that man continues in religion doing that over mercy first.
the first chosen could not ever do perfect, not even Moses. Proof to me, neither can “I’ therefore I chose to believe God in his done work of Son done once for all Hebrews 10:10, John said in John 1:29 behold the lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world!
‘time to believe God it is done or continue working it out and sinning over it in worry over it.
which worry will never help. Matthew 6, Jesus asked will worry add even a moment to your life?
‘worry is fear. Fear is taken out in God”s love. 1 John 4:18
believe, receive and see
people seek for God to show them.
God seeks for us to believe God, then we will be shown. So believe without second guessing. Love all as are given to do that from God through Son for you
thetruth sets anyone that believes free. The Billy goat is doubt, with the butting in, even a modicum, of doubt troubles people and they get themselves lost in religion.
Isaiah 7:9 in context 1-9 yet it goes deeper that just that truth, God was telling them then.

Jesus died for our sins. Oh, but you have long hair. Oops! Sorry, you're excluded.

It's ridiculous. Move on. Enjoy your hair while you have it.

There are no rules or anything else we need to add to Jesus. Keep Him as your focus and you can't go wrong.

Note that v.15 says that a woman's hair is given as a "περιβολαίου" (see Heb. 1:12) which refers to a mantle, robe, or cloak; both of which would flow down past the shoulder to cover the body. But main topic of this chapter isn't hair to begin with- it's about uncovering while praying/prophesying.

This arrangement is about God's glory, and not about whether or not you look good or look effeminate, or whatever.

For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God...

but the woman is the glory of man...

....if a woman has long hair, it is her glory...

Notice by this arrangement who's glory is covered and whos is on display. This is a departure from the behavior of the Israelites with God, as shown in 2COR3.

We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at the end of what was fading away. (See EX 34) For to this day the same veil remains at the reading of the old covenant. It has not been lifted, because only in Christ can it be removed. And even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts....
And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into His image with intensifying glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

EX34: And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face. But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded. And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his face again, until he went in to speak with him.

God cares about your heart, not your long hair. It's fine.
I would not recommend this. It simply is not true and is an idea that I’m sure the devil approves. 1 Corinthians 7:19 “KEEPING THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD IS WHAT MATTERS.” Satan does not want you to do what God says. Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments.” And again, “ You are my friends if you do what I say.” John 14:15 and 15:14. Paul says in chapter 7 of this book that the things he has taught are the COMMANDMENTS OF GOD. NO WHERE in God’s Book does He ever say that He only cares about your heart and NOT what you do. This is bad advice. Beware.

These many people in Matthew 7:22 will find out the hard way that everything they DID amounted to nothing because their hearts were not right with God. Jesus never knew these many people (verse 23) which means they were never saved.

The Pharisees thought they were keeping the commandments of God, but their hearts were not right with God.

Mark 7:6 - And He said to them, “Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written:
‘This people honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far away from Me.

If our heart is not right with God, then we are just going through the motions of a "nominal" Christian.

Luke 6:45 - A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Acts 8:21 - You have no part or portion in this matter, for your heart is not right before God.

Acts 15:8 - So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us, 9 and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

1 Corinthians 4:5 - Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men’s hearts; and then each man’s praise will come to him from God.

Ephesians 3:17 - so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

1 Thessalonians 2:4 - but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who examines our hearts.

2 Thessalonians 3:5 - May the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the steadfastness of Christ.

1Cor 3: 16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit of God.
Sometimes the Son speaks his own words, and sometimes the Son speaks the words of the Father. John 16: 13 Nevertheless, when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth; for he shall not speak of himself, but whatever he shall hear, that shall he speak; and he will show you things to come. John 6 : 38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will but the will of Him that sent me. John 12: 49-50 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father, who sent me, He gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that His commandment is life everlasting; whatsoever I speak, therefore, even (that is) as the Father said unto me, so I speak. Matt 10: 19-20 But when they deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye shall speak; for it shall be given you in the same hour what ye shall speak. For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaketh in you. The Father speaks through those who are indwelled with His Holy Spirit. John 3: 34-35 For He whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God; for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto Him. The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into His hand. John 14: 8-9 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been such a long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father. John 14: 10 Believest thou that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you, I speak not of myself; but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. The Son is the image of the invisible God the Father. Most of everything that the Son says and does is said and done by the Father through the Holy Spirit (portal) that fills the Son.
In the Old Testament, when a person was filled with the Holy Spirit of God, he prophesized (communicated with God). That is why "Thus saith the Lord" is stated many times in Scripture by those filled with the Holy Spirit of God. Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit so that there are two minds involved in his speach and writings (his own and the Lord's). God obviously doesn't care about the physical appearance of a person which makes the statement in 1 Cor 11: 14 come from the mind of Paul ( who is filled with the customs and traditions of his day). Long hair for males is not a shame of nature because lions and horses have long manes and long hair on males is accepted in our generation. Males acting like females is not acceptable in any generation. God judges the hearts of men, not their physical appearance.

I don’t think you have much choice but to believe what the bible says, to say it’s his opinion or not a command would imply the bible is not 'inspired'.

Otherwise what would we make of passages such as:

“Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:” 2 Timothy 2:8

1 Corinthians 7:25 Now concerning the unmarried, I have no command of the Lord, but I give my opinion as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy.
