Tong Master.
Tong does sound like the name of a Yakuza family.
You’re not wrong. Some of us may remember the old Kung Fu TV show… there was an enemy clan of assassins known as the Tong.

But I prefer the metal tip tongs on the grill.

If you cling too tightly, you gonna lose control..."

And in vampire: bloodlines, a video game, tong was a rival gang the main character had to take down.

"Welcome to Tseng's herbal remedies. I am Tseng."

"I need a remedy for a tong problem."

"Have you tried diplomacy?"

"Didn't work. Got anything else?"

(Tseng pushes a hidden button and the herbal remedy racks spin around to reveal guns.)

"Tseng have remedy for all kind problems. Cash only. No credit cards."

Man I loved the dialogue in that game.

The main reason I got the last pair of tongs I purchased was to have them on hand so that I could pick up scorpions while keeping distance from the stinger in their tail.
Lol!

@GaryA, you definitely win the prize for most original use of tongs mentioned in this thread! 🏆

May I ask, what circumstances that put you in contact with scorpions? Did you live in an area in which they were common?

I got gifted a pair ages ago, they have a special purpose, to keep company to all the other (rarely used) utensils in their very own section of the drawer.

Now that I wrote this message and took a look inside the drawer.. I found out that I do not have the gift of tongs, they are more of a huge flimsy plastic tweezers, not that practical. That explains their purpose.

If I would have the gift, I would use them for picking eggs from boiling water if I needed both soft boiled eggs and hard boiled ones too.
And if they would be sturdy enough, I would pick ramekins from the oven on a tray full of hot water, when making créme caramel or something like that. Now I just take the whole tray out and hope not to spill any water.

For me they would have to be a really long tongs for me to even try that.. Luckily, the only "scorpion"
I have ever seen is a chelifer.

Yes - "common enough" - whereas, you have to be careful lest you step on one or put your hand on one.

However, God protected me from ever getting stung by one - and, I am grateful...

@GaryA still too short for me  but I am a chicken when it comes to poisonous animals..

Oh! I do have tongs! I have similar looking ones, those scissor versions, at summer cottage for barbecue. Still manage to drop most of the food with those, so I am not worthy of them.

I have a double portion of that particular gift. One normal sized set with nylon tips for taking hot things out of pots and one large pair for flipping steaks and chops on the grill.

I also have a related gift, the gift of chopsticks.
