Never though of it until I recently found out a lot of other Christians take issues with men wearing tights or skinny fit pants. What is the rational behind the objection, assuming they're worn in a way that adequately covers the bulge. The arguments I've heard so far don't make a lot of sense to me. Usually the arguments seem to suppose this is a modern social rebellion with people saying things like: "They don't have pockets so these guys have to carry stuff in a purse", "Can't be comfortable", and "They're completely impractical so the only reason a guy would wear them is to look gay."

1. I use a fanny pack because pockets, unless I have more than two aren't enough anyway in my case, guys have always carried satchels and totes since forever, also I don't bother to add pockets when I make work pants because they're extra work to put in.
2. robinihood.jpg
3.I can think of a few reasons, costuming obviously, under pants in the cold since footed tights don't ride up, jogging, ballet and dance.

So what's the deal, why do so many people take moral issues with tights/hose/tight pants. Thoughts?

What a unique and interesting topic!

First, kudos to you for making your own pants!! I know that's not an easy feat, as I've make a few pairs of zip-fly khaki-style shorts, and they're not the easiest thing to make (especially when getting the fit right.)

The two objections I've heard regarding men wearing skinny pants are exactly what you've listed:

1. Many times if men wear skinny pants, it's assumed they're gay (I guess they're kind of seen as the male version of tights, like in ballet? And there seems to be a presumption that men who wear such things do so to show off their physiques to other men.)

2. In the female circles I've been in, men in tight pants are considered to be a bit... obscene. The women I've been around would be afraid of a guy, uh, having a moment of loss of control, and no one wants to see that in public.

But I'm not one to wear tight clothes as a woman, and the women I'm around don't think anyone of either gender should be wearing particularly tight clothes, as they can show off the contours of both the male and female body a bit too much. Some women I know consider tight pants on a man to be an immodest way of dressing.

But, those are just the things I've heard -- sorry I couldn't have a more helpful answer.

I think close-fitting clothes restrict movement for either gender, so for me it's just about being comfortable.

I was horrible, lol! One time my boyfriend at the time and I (this was before I was saved) were at the top of the stairs at a park which had many steps. He was wearing tight jeans. I grabbed his hand and made both of us run down the stairs, lol! He screamed all the way down, lol!:ROFL::LOL::ROFL::LOL:

Merino wool long johns under green jeans today worked well for staying warm on this chilly and very windy day.

If it threatens rain, I've made a pair of light shell, roomy rain waxed pants. They are very breathable and better than gortex IMHO. I should sell various sizes late summer for Fall use. They have just enough stretch for stepping over logs, climbing with tree stands and doing high kicks.

You made some good points about why guys might wear tighter pants and why some reasons people object don't really make sense. It’s good to question things like that.

When the Bible talks about clothes, it usually focuses less on the exact style – because styles always change, right? It talks more about bigger ideas, like dressing suitably and thinking about how our choices might affect other people.

Maybe some folks object because of cultural ideas or what they think someone means by their clothes, even if everything important is covered.

But we really need to remember what God Himself focuses on. There’s a very important verse about this in the Bible, from 1 Samuel 16:7 (KJV). It clearly says:

"...for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart."

So, while people often judge just by how things look on the outside, God cares most about what's really inside us – in our heart.

Doesn't that mean our attitude and who we are inside matters much more than the specific clothes we wear?
Thinking about that verse, how do we best apply those ideas – dressing respectfully and caring for others – with all the different fashion trends we see today?

Are we talking about men who adamantly refuse to wear tights? Or are we talking about men who criticize others for wearing tights?

For myself it doesn't seem very practical. The itching alone! Every time I take my socks off I have to scraaaaaaaatch. If I wore tights I hate to think how much it would itch. And don't get me started on riding my bike or bending over to pick something up...

For other people, I don't care. They can wear what they want. They can also eat McDonald's for three meals a day, chain smoke, watch soap operas and do all kinds of other things I think are not a very good idea. As long as they don't try to say I should do those things, I don't care. (Okay I don't really care if they DO say I should do those things...)

I will observe that in modern culture there is a stigma attached to them, much like the hippie movement gave facial hair a stigma back in my day. If you wear them it will certainly hinder your witness. For that reason alone I think it is a bad idea to wear them. But again, I'm not going to spend a lot of time arguing about something I think is a bad idea if somebody is dead set on doing it.

People criticizing others, As for bending over, that's probably a fitting issue. My main way of wearing them is underneath a pair of breeches, or sometimes a kilt. 0414e021afce3becc244efa060549a9b-2796334690.jpg

I don't have a moral issue with them. I do call them queer pants because it seems that group of males were the original targets of that style of pant. I don't wear them and I'd rather my boys not wear that style of pant either.

I'm a runner and depending upon the temperature I have a couple different types of "tights' that I wear for layering to keep warm while running. I always wear something over the leg tights. I might wear two sets of tights if the temperature warrants.

Yeah, I can understand why men would need tights under kilts. This scene always made me laugh!

amusing, but far less of an issue than one might think.

It's not just men though. When I was a pre-teen, all the girls in my class (perhaps my entire school) would wear shorts under our skirts because during lunch we would play all sorts of very active games like tag, devil's tag or manhunt. And of course sometimes we'd get tackled or fall for whatever reason so wearing shorts under our skirts was a necessity! :giggle:

Needless to say, that habit carried on well into college. Guys were trying to be more mature by that time, but their hormones were still raging. So I wore leggings under my skirts.

Black short leggings over black hose under skirt.
That way, if guys try to sneak a look, they don't see anything! :geek:

Sensible approach.
