1 Samuel 18:27 “Wherefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men; and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them in full tale to the king, that he might be the king's son in law. And Saul gave him Michal his daughter to wife.”

When I first read this scripture years ago, two immediate thoughts crossed my mind:

1. Ewww! Foreskins were an actual, heavily traded commodity in the Old Testament?!? How to keep cash without getting a disease?
2. Efficient! Honestly, going out and collecting 200 obnoxious "scalps" seems way faster than modern online dating, swiping through endless profiles, and pretending to care about someone's crypto portfolio.

We’ve all seen plenty of threads about arranged marriages, bride prices, and modern dating exhaustion. But remarkably, there is a distinct lack of discourse on foreskin-based economics.

So let’s break down the market:

For the gals:
1) Would you accept a marriage proposal from a mysterious stranger (or a guy you sort of like from the coffee shop) if he showed up with "the goods" in a velvet-lined jewelry box?
2) What is your magic number? (Inflation adjusted, is 200 still standard, or does a college degree drive the price up?
3) Sourcing check: Given that uncircumcised Philistines are a dying breed in our current real estate market, where would you expect him to ethically (or unethically) source them?

For the guys:
1) What do you realistically think is a fair market value for Miss Right?
2) Are
you willing to risk disease, blindness - yea - even untimely death to collect it?

Here are some guidelines to begin. What do y'all think?
1: If a guy can’t even secure more than a single sketchy trophy from the local gym to prove his love, he’s probably not going to help with the dishes anyway.
2: At this level, you aren't marrying a king's daughter; you're marrying the assistant manager of a slightly suspect local storefront.
3: Look, if he only brings you three, he clearly stopped at the first minor inconvenience and just wanted to go home and play video games.
4: Four units feels less like a bride price and more like someone emptied their pockets at a very weird yard sale.
5: A meager handful is fine for a casual dating app meetup, but it’s definitely not royal wedding material.
5 - 10: A handful feels like a fair starter package for a casual engagement, assuming they're gift-wrapped in nice velvet.
20 - 50: Twenty to fifty units is basically the equivalent of getting her a nice promise ring and a moderately priced dinner at Applebee's.
50 - 75: From fifty to seventy-five, you're looking at a solid mid-tier romance—enough to secure a modest cottage, but definitely no royal princess.
75 - 80: Seventy five to eighty units screams "I tried really hard on the weekend project, but I got lazy by Sunday afternoon."
80 - 90: If he rolls up with between eighty to ninety, he's basically the guy who brings a generic grocery store cake to a birthday party and calls it a gift.
90 - 100: One hundred was Saul's magic number, but let's be real—today that probably only gets you a sponsored Instagram influencer with three thousand followers.
100 - 200: At 200 units, we’re firmly in biblical royalty territory, though honestly, it still sounds cheaper than a modern destination wedding in Tuscany.
200 - 300: Let's face it, three hundred units is the point where your friends start staging an intervention and asking where you met this guy.
300 - 350: Three-fifty gets you a royal princess, a lifetime supply of awkward family dinners, and zero questions asked about your weekend itinerary.
350 - 450: At 450, you aren't just joining a family; you're orchestrating a hostile corporate takeover of the local kingdom.
450 - 500: Once you get to 500, the wedding planner doesn't ask about floral arrangements—she asks what kind of hazard pay she needs.
500 - 600: Bringing home a grand total of these 'goods' doesn't get you a wife anymore; it gets you an immediate FBI watchlist entry and a special episode of Dateline.
600 - 700: At seven hundred units, it stops being a sweet proposal and starts looking like an extremely aggressive loyalty program reward.
700 - 800: Pushing past 800 means you're either marrying a tech CEO's daughter or running a deeply concerning black-market startup.
800 - 900: At over 900 units, you aren't looking for a bride—you're trying to launch a publicly traded biotech conglomerate.
900 - 1000: If a guy drops a thousand on your doorstep, run—because he didn't just clear out the local Philistines, he depopulated an entire geographic region.

I'm willing to accept right hands or left feet instead. I mean I'm going to want a man to give me a hand with things every once in a while, and there's a better chance that I'm not marrying a mass murderer that way. Though I imagine the local morgue would have plenty of donors for either.

You should get an abundance of foreskin credits for this hilarious and clever thread 🤣

I wasn't quite sure until I got to the end and read, "If a guy drops a thousand on your doorstep, run—because he didn't just clear out the local Philistines, he depopulated an entire geographic region."
Just speaking as a Chieftess, I would expect no less than if the guy depopulated an entire region! I mean this can't be something placed in a velvet-lined jewelry box. I expect at least a dump truck full! How can I expect him to meet or even surpass my Chieftess' capabilities? How can I expect him to hold up if bleep hits the fan? Yes, depopulating an entire region is absolutely necessary! This is about 2 strong people going forth. The road ahead isn't for the weak! ⚔️

LAND SAKES ALIVE!!!!

I have to admit, @Charlesiii, you've done something not many people can do -- you've stunned me into NEAR SILENCE and rendered my petulant peculiarities for prose just about IMPOTENT (I assure you, that has NOTHING to do with the fact that we're talking about foreskins, honest...)

I am so overtly overwhelmed by your unparalleled expertise, I'm not sure I could ever possibly think of a suitable answer!!!

After 17 years and writing over 1,100 threads on this forum, I've finally seen someone who can COMPLETELY WIPE ME OFF THE MAP -- WITH ONE THREAD.

Seoulsearch shall now exit left in complete and utter awe of THE KING, no doubt about it!

You, Good Sir, have topped any and everything I have ever written on this forum -- combined -- with a thread of which the likes we've never seen, and that which we will likely never see again. Everything I write from henceforth shall be seen as chicken scratch by comparison.

First of all, I'm utterly stunned that you got this thread approved, as it unanimously blows ANYTHING I've EVER tried to get away with OUT OF THE WATER!!!

I will forever bow to you in ENDLESS ADMIRATION.

In an attempt to blubber out a hollow shell of, in the infamous words of Gwen Stefani, "I Ain't No Holla Back Girl," and so I must therefore demand fierce action for a chance to win my hand.

While I can't quite say HOW MANY foreskins I would be worth, I CAN say one thing:

600 - 700: At seven hundred units, it stops being a sweet proposal and starts looking like an extremely aggressive loyalty program reward.

I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow -- and I will NEVER, EVER look at Loyalty Program Rewards EVER THE SAME -- again!!! (What do you MEAN you're only offering me a measly free jar of peanut butter?? Do you KNOW how many foreskins were dropped at my door just yesterday??!!)

I would imagine NOTHING in the world would ever be seen as being quite as satisfactory after that.

In contemplation, the ponderings of famous barbarian come to mind:

Since every good movie hero from the 80's now has his own female counterpart, I can easily imagine the modern-day equivalent, CONNIE The Barbarian,

Being asked, "What is best in life?"

And her calmly replying: "To see an endless pile of foreskins before me -- as the price one is willing to pay for mine hand!!"

All in a velvet-lined box, and all ethically, locally, and environmentally responsibly sourced (without harming any animals!!), of course.

Forget the Wrath of Khan.

When hunting foreskins, everyone knows it's best not to ignite the Wrath of PETA.

(Can you imagine Elmer Fudd saying, "Be vewwy vewwy kwwiii-ettte... We're Hunting Foreskins!")

As @RodB651 would say:

"As an aside..." (He would say, "As an aside" -- he certainly would NOT say what I'm about to say, starting now) --

Do you think my suitor would be offended...

If I took my TRUCKLOAD of foreskins to a local shop -- to have them appraised?

Er... Just curious.

I mean, isn't the WHOLE POINT of this to see HOW MUCH a girl is worth??!!

Also, you know how the Pawn Stars guys are always saying, "Well ok, but I'd like to have my guy come down to the shop to look this over..."

And they always seem to "know a guy" who's an absolute expert in anything they're trying to value.

Is it just me, but I can't help wondering who, exactly, they're going to "call down to the shop" -- who is an "absolute expert" in FORESKINS... 😐

No deal.

The very first question for the ladies was going to a coffee shop.

NO! That is not the way to court someone or win their affections.

Maybe some American Starbucks-going Christians think coffee is the aphrodisiac of choice but I am telling you right now that it is not.

Lanolin has a good point.

A man does not simply walk into Starbucks -- with a pile of foreskins -- and expect to propose to a lady...

As for mysterious stranger, it depends on what the mystery to be solved is.

It it's a guy in a trench coat going pssst I have something for you...RUN don't walk to the nearest Police Station.
Nobody just has jewels they willing to hand over unless they have stolen them from...IDK, Michael Hill Jewellers. Or a pawn shop.

I would call those guys 'flashers'

We ladies are not impressed. With either your jewellery or flash lifestyle of coffee drinking Starbucking.

Hmph and harumph...

30 pieces of silver,
14 years of labour
200 foreskins
many towns conquered..
above rubies
two turtle doves
1 pair of sandals

100 fold fruits
2 widow's mites
a pearl of great price
1 sacrificed sheep
1 jar of anointing oil in an alabaster box worth a whole years wages
2 loaves and 3 fishes
1 bar of gold, 2 jars frankincense and 3 pounds of myrrh
153 fish

I'm going with the fish...but not just the fish, cos you'll only feed someone for a day (or 153 days) you need to teach someone to fish and they can feed someone for life.
