Thanks Jennie!

Also, for anyone who knows a thing or two about spiritual attacks (I know nothing), could you refer me to some resources or provide some information about the subject. I'd like to know whether I've been through a spiritual attack or whether I've just been hardening my heart and drifting. This thing really took off last week after I had lunch with a few of my friends who are unsaved and worldly.

I've always seen this spiritual attack business as people thinking that their lives are a continual struggle for possession between God and satan, but I in apparent contrast have always felt quite secure. I may need to reassess this viewpoint and gain a better understanding of the spiritual realm.

I'm sorry for talking about myself so much, I hate talking about myself, but this hasn't happened to me before.

The very best resource is of course the Bible, and I assume you're familiar with verses like the devil comes to kill, steal, and destroy, and also Paul admitting what he did want to do, he didn't, and what he didn't want to do, he did.

Spiritual attack is not a struggle for possession between God and satan. Demon possession is far more severe than spiritual attacks. We actually talked to our pastor about this last Monday. A born again, Holy Spirit filled Christian can not be possessed by a demon. 1. Samuel 16:13-14 "Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed David in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward. And Samuel arose and went to Ramah. But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord tormented and troubled him." We read that the Spirit of the Lord had to leave before the evil spirit could enter. When a person is possessed by a demon, the demon can control this person completely at will, use the person to talk through (even with more voices simultaneously, if more demons are in this person, examples where the Bible talks about legions, Mark 5:9, Mark 5:15, Luke 8:30).

Spiritual attacks are when the devil knows your weaknesses and uses that against you in order to "kill, steal and destroy". This is when we are tempted, think irrational/ungodly thoughts or have irrational/ungodly feelings. Paul writes to Christians in Colossians, and in chapter 3:5-12 you see examples of spiritual attacks and then tells us to (verse 10) "clothe yourselves with the new [spiritual self], which is [ever in the process of being] renewed and remolded into [fuller and more perfect knowledge upon] knowledge after the image (the likeness) of Him Who created it". He's also saying as Christians, we're continually growing spiritually.
Also great verses here, I really think these sum up what you experience at the moment, and what you should do, and what God will do:
1 Peter 5:8-10 "Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour. Withstand him; be firm in faith [against his onset - rooted, established, strong, immovable, and determined] knowing that the same (identical) suffering are appointed to your brotherhood (the whole body of Christians) throughout the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace [Who imparts all blessing and favor], Who has called you to His [own] eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will Himself complete and make you what you ought to be, establish and ground you securely, and strenghten, and settle you."
Often, you will see that the more active a Christian is, the more spiritual attacks the person can experience. This is a part of the spiritual battle we're in - the devil simply wants to destroy your good work for God's Kingdom. The devil does not want you to reach out to non believers.

I can recommend this two part sermon by James MacDonald from Walk in the Word, Six questions about Satan:

If you like to read fiction, there is a great book by Ted Dekker, he paints the picture of demon possession very well in his book "Adam".

Satan can try to wisper thoughts in your ears...try to get at your heart and try to get you to feel bad. Satan can also send demons to attack you physically...wether by people or spirits i dont know. Pray to God for him to have a change of mind to have a right mindset and attitude about things and seek God. Sometimes its really good to just lay it all down to God, you know like how you feel and what your thinking. Ask for Gods help but remember to be patient!

Remember God loves you sharp i could never explain how deep and how much favor you have in Gods eyes. :D

Sharp, like you I used to think greater is HE who's in me than he who's in this world & didnt acknowledge when things would happen that it may be an attack. Still greater is He who's in me, but also it is no coincidence these things that happen & yes there is spiritual attack... absolutely. I'm also not well versed in spiritual warfare but I do pray against satans evil plots that they bare no fruit & the Lord is faithful in that. I feel oppressed after being with certain people as well. It doesnt mean they are bad people... it just means that we have to pray before we go into the situation and have the armour of God. There is no coincidence that you can pinpoint when this feeling started.

I think that you are on the right track. It sounds like a spiritual attack to me...
