He is 5 years old and this was the first time he had a seizure,it was so scary for me,it took ages for him to recover after he had the seizure .He had a head scan and his chest the doctor said nothing is wrong he is allrite might be the fever that cause it coz wen I got home from work at 1am he kept waking me up to go get him water n then 6:30am I woke up coz I felt shaking besides me n turn around saw him Having tonic clonic sizure, first I thought he was dreaming kept saying his name but he wasn't responding so I started screaming n crying and all my sibling n dad ran to the room.I'm praying that this wouldn't happened to him again.
If he has epilepsy, then he will most likely have seizures the rest of his life, as I will. The tonic-clonic seizures are better known as grand mal seizures, which I had ALL THE TIME as a child. It wasn't until 1997 when I was put on Lamictal, that they were finally fully controlled. I still have the petit mal seizures rather often, though.
I would talk to your doctor about this. Ask what meds he should be put on to control the seizures. The next time your son has a seizure, do these steps:
1.) Do NOT scream and cry and get hysterical. You need to stay calm and clear headed.
2.) If there is anything around him that he could get injured on, move it away from him.
3.) Do NOT put anything in his mouth to keep him from swallowing his tongue. It is impossible to swallow your tongue.
4.) Do NOT try to hold him down while he's seizing. Turn him on his side. Shield him from anything he could get hurt on, such as furniture, bedposts, etc.
5.) In most cases, people come out of grand mals after a couple of minutes. If he seizes longer than that, call 911. Prolonged seizures can cause brain damage.
6.) When the seizure is over, comfort him, hold him and tell him God was with him while he had his seizure and that God will watch over him.
Feel free to pm me if you wish.
I know how scary grand mals can be, both for the person having the seizure, AND for the person witnessing it.
