Lord Jesus thank you for HealthandHappiness bringing this matter for prayer. May this woman's stomach be healed so she can eat food without any issue, may all the problems with the digestion be removed now. We also command in the name of Jesus Christ that her ability to speak would be fully restored without any issue so that she can communicate fully and clearly. Finally, any sickness with her lungs be removed and fully healed so that the oxygen level in her blood returns to normal and all secretions in her lung cease and are removed. May this happen immediately in the name of Jesus Christ, the great physician. Amen.
Thank you dear friend.

We had a close call this evening.
Her O2 saturation dropped from upper 90s to 51% within a few minutes.

A respiratory therapist noticed that the tube was knocked off the machine. Once she discovered it, it went back to normal when she replaced it. I can't believe how easily those press fits can become dislodged.
I kept telling the nurse that it seems related to her bed adjustment. When she replaced a pillow and raised the bed, the Oxygen suddenly dropped off. She denied that it had anything to do with the issue in spite of my frequent protest that it was more than coincidence. Glad she had sense to call the respiratory therapist who happened to discover that was what happened. The nurse accidentally knocked the tube loose.

Mom is exhausted and gurgling lots.
She had 3 lung suctions in about 2 hours.
They are getting blood with the secretions, so they don't want to do that more than necessary.

Thank you for your prayers.
Any suggestions are always welcome.

Continuing to pray for God's will and his peace in this matter.

Another close call this morning!

Mom's in step down unit and I'm awaiting a physician approval for my choice of meal replacement. She just vomited up and aspirated The canola, corn oil, soy and corn sugar. She bent over the edge of the bed to throw up again and the staff kept trying to shove her back and tell her to calm down. I sternly told her nurse she's vomiting and it's going into her lungs! She needs help now!

We got her the best quality protein powder, liquid vitamin/ mineral supplements available locally plus MCT oil. There's a Stat request to the Dr read the x-ray and talk with me. I would have a blender for calf liver, etc in her room, but will be happy for now if the dr will approve our quality organic protein powder, etc.

Please pray that the Lord will convince her, the weekend duty doc, to eliminate theirs and approve mine.
Also pray for exceptional healing, strength from it.
Safety from the meds, etc.
She shows signs of med toxicity.

Instead of blaming another employee for the aspiration of their sorry "perfect nutrition", they said she has fluid on her lungs from getting too much water , 50 ml / hour water.
They are starving her of nutrition and water with an additional diuretic. I plan on being there at the hospital before the doctor, so I am sure to talk to him.

The last one passed the buck and doesn't want to take red for allowing something the patient requests that won't make them vomit into their own lungs. In spite of some of the friendly helpful staff that has my gratitude, I'm now sick of this hospital.

Please pray for Mom to get what she needs for recovery.
I think the exceptionally good respiratory therapist is supposed to be there Sunday evening. He taught me his simple technique of using the suction tube that is very gentle and doesn't damage lung tissue like some of the staff have.

i'm not a math whiz. just a dumb American who's not overly familiar with the metric system.

but i worked in a pharmacy, and by my calculations, 50 ml is about an ounce and a half. that's too much?

sorry, brother, i don't mean to add to your problems. this is a bit inconceivable to my mind.

We all have some answers to prayer that I plan to share ASAP.
The gospel got out to some folks on that floor and saw someone saved this morning.
She was a visitor who worked there from housekeeping.
Later I ran into a group of preachers from other states who preached the gospel with me in front of the nurses station. By preached, I mean I asked key questions and there were a lot of verses quoted in the hallway as they tried to get me saved. 😉
That was awesome because the nurses and CNAs listened. I was surprised that they were good Bible believing preachers who proclaimed the true gospel. Had we missed each other by 30 seconds, we would have missed each other. It's a longer story that I'll save for later because im tired as I got little to no sleep last night, so I'll sign off for now.
God is answering our prayers my brothers, sisters and friends. 😊

I will pray for your Mom. What hospital is this??? The staff doesn't seem to know what to do properly and tries to blame the patient! If your mom ever needs to go to the hospital again, she needs to go to a better one somewhere else!

PS -- Your Mom obviously has problems with pills going down for example. Her nurse should have grounded any pills and opened up capsules and put them in apple sauce or pudding. That helps the meds go down without it going the wrong way....

You are absolutely right.

It wasn't my idea to take her to the hospital. . Mom was independent before this.
She had a lucid dream and fell off her couch and her forehead got cut on the coffee table. Her friend took her to the ER instead of calling me. I would have cleaned her cut, first aid and used butterfly suture bandages. I've dressed many injuries and had nearly 100% success.
I would have evaluated her and kept a close eye on her to make sure she was ok. She probably would have been fine.

Instead,
The doctor threatened her and told her she'd die if she were not admitted immediately.
My brother found out and would not call me until a couple weeks went by and she declined from being confined to the hospital bed. It's a long sad story.
Not until they damaged her health to the beginning of this prayer would he contact me .

Now the Lord has answered the prayers of my brothers and sisters here. She's in a special respiratory hospital not affiliated with the other. 😥 Our Father is so very kind. He directly answered and saved her life time and again from the evil hospice doc at the other place and more than one close call like intubation.

She has improved a little each time, but had a recent setback.
I'm talking to a weekend doctor tomorrow to get her off non life sustaining meds. The nurse would not print them out today. I'm spending the night in the chair next to her bed tonight because I didn't feel comfortable with her unattended in her non-lucid state .

She had a respiratory challenge tonight and needed immediate attention from the respiratory therapist.
She started gasping and O2 dropped quickly.
I ran to the nurses station and requested respiratory stat. A few minutes later the O2 dropped to the 50s% blood saturation.
As the therapist was getting started, it looked like Mom stopped breathing. Her eyes were wide open and not blinking. No breathing. The O2 was set at 100% and the CPR bulb was then used. She started breathing and suction was then applied over and over again to remove thick mucus. She's unable to cough since the tracheostomy, so she requires round the clock care.

Will continue to pray for your Mom. I don't fully understand - she started out with a cut on her forehead, got admitted and now has a serious respiratory condition?

I see that she had a tracheostomy (when did she get this?). If she has thick mucus then that means she needs humidification or should take in more fluids to loosen and thin out that mucus. When a person gets a tracheostomy, she takes in air that is not warm or humidified and less clean. That's why mucus builds up. Make sure that the staff monitors your Mom for mucus buildup - especially if it's thick. Ask them to find a way to thin out that mucus - there are several methods to do that through mechanical means or medication, such as a humidifying apparatus or IV fluids (if your Mom has trouble drinking fluids).

The initial Dr threatened her according to her friend. He said she had partial occlusion of one lung. That's been a common theme with COPD and her gluten allergy. The CT Scan didn't look bad to me. After the long stay, she was given a hospital born MRSA directly following tablets they claimed went down the wrong way. I was next to her when they gave them, asking why they were if she's aspirating mucus. They looked at each other as to agree on that. When the one nurse said "she heard it go down the wind pipe." The looks on their faces and non verbals indicated that one was looking to the other for affirmation while the other one and I didn't hear a thing. It was clearly staged the manner in which it was done. It was highly suspect and afterwards she was given a lot of meds and no longer lucid, in Medical ICU.
There were several doctors who were also choreographed and kept insisting intubation/ Hospice and gave a canned shpiel. One was creepier than a horror movie I shouldn't have seen as a kid, Silence of the Lambs. Most of the support staff were nice and helpful, although I reported the challenges here for prayer. It was a teaching hospital affiliated with WVU so there were some students who were given access like one who was a nursing student practicing his first deep lung suction with Mom. I put a stop to those and asked that no more students participate with her case.

Thank you for your prayers and informative comments on respiratory care.
At 4:30 AM, I got up when I heard what sounded like an actual cough. She actually spoke softly and was lucid in the first time in several days. I asked questions and she responded quickly with nods, etc. Her eyes were tracking me too! The day before yesterday, she experienced nystagmus for the first time in her life. Her eyes were looking far left and right, no blinking whatsoever, pupils contracted. I reported it immediately and got no response. I said that it is sometimes from a stroke, but thought it may be a side effect of a too long list of meds.

I asked for contact information for the weekend physician. That wasn't provided, so that's one reason I'm spending the night at this rehab facility. He's supposed to come in sometime this morning. Glad I'm here tonight because I don't think she would have survived that episode where she quit breathing. The aid was friendly, but only responded when I personally demanded quick attention. The oxpulsometer contacts have been sending false alerts, so I'm thinking that she went ignored for that reason. This last time was definitely serious.

I agree that she needs more fluids.
She's dehydrated and on Lasik/ diuretic.
She has a weak Atrial Valve and a little CHF.
I've been asking for increased fluids since I learned of her hospitalization.

I was just told that yesterday she pulled out an IV tube in spite of mitts on her hands. I did not see any evidence of that, but open to someone showing me. I was told at the same conversation that she was lying on her IV and helped assist turning her over. There was no IV line on that arm. I will look more closely when it's sun up, but think there's a possible mistake since the nurse didn't know that there was no IV on that side.

Anyhow she said Mom is scheduled for a Mid Line Catheter and described it as insertion point at the inner bicep up through the collar and descending to just above the heart.
When I asked why, was told that she had to finish an antibiotic that I was not informed about. I just looked at the vial hanging and there's less than 1/ ONE cc left.
She said she must finish the antibiotic. When I speak to the Dr, I will ask why he doesn't just inject that little fraction of a cc with a syringe? I can only guess that insurance covers it and will pad the $, but I'm the cynic at these hospitals.

Midline Catheterization Risks:
  • Catheter occlusion: The catheter may become blocked, making it difficult or impossible to administer medications or fluids.
  • Infection: Midline catheters can increase the risk of infection, including central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI).
  • Infiltration or extravasation: The catheter may become dislodged or damaged, leading to bleeding, swelling, or tissue damage.
  • Skin injury: The insertion site may become irritated or infected, leading to skin lesions or abscesses.
  • Phlebitis: The catheter may cause inflammation or irritation of the vein, leading to pain, swelling, or redness.
  • Blood clotting: The catheter may cause blood clots to form, which can travel to the lungs or other parts of the body.
  • Pneumothorax: The catheter may puncture the lung, leading to a collapsed lung.
  • DVT: The catheter may cause blood clots to form in the deep veins, leading to a condition known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Please pray for my meetings with the doctors today and another ASAP with the head of this unit/ respiratory hospital when he will talk. I need to get Mom off all unnecessary meds, hydrated properly and actual healthy food. Since a syringe can be used here, I want to talk the dietician into puree calf liver. She needs the cholesterol and minerals. The statin must stop today with some other harmful drugs.
Thank you so much! I got less than an hour sleep, and absolutely need His grace every step of the way.

Yeah, I'm not keen on long lists of meds. I keep thinking this hospital is trying to find as many ways to skim off your Mom's health insurance. And do you know it is entirely up to the doctor in charge? Some are really gung-ho on meds, while others are a lot more cautious, so just because you have a doctor that is putting tons of meds on order does not mean that that's actually the best plan.

Has your family set up a schedule to have a family member be with your Mom at all times. I'm REALLY surprised that the doctor didn't give you a contact number. Even a number to the ward where your Mom is staying would have been good. But if you did get a number, would they have answered anyway? They've been neglectful about other stuff, so might as well have a family member there at all times anyway.

I recall you mentioned your Mom had MRSA? Does she still have it?

So the docs think the infection is in her lungs that your Mom needs a midline catheter to direct the antibiotic to it? Yeah, okay. But I'll pray that God protects her through this whole thing. We've already seen that the hospital is a bit careless.

Certain antibiotics can't be administered quickly through injection. They have to be slowly released into the blood system because those small amounts are really strong. So they are fed through the IV at a controlled rate.

I'll check back later in the afternoon. Will keep your Mom in prayer!

I am very concerned about your mom's future quality of life. We are praying that God give you and your family the strength to accept His will in her life.

James 5:13-15 comes to my mind.

I'm talking from my own experience: I've NEVER heard meds go down a wind pipe.

Thank you for that.
You are the first person to state what I questioned. I was closer than anyone and didn't hear an inhalation or anything. Her comment was strange. Mom didn't gag, so I should not have assumed that was the truth at that time. The entire situation was just plain weird. When I spoke to the physician at the time, he was frightened and acted like a teenager caught stealing and in trouble. Now I think it was staged to get her into the ICU for the insurance. At that point, the heavy sedation, other meds and dehydration wiped her out IMHO. Then there were the high pressure sales pitches. I should have been brought into the case from the beginning so I could get the bigger picture.

Very good points.

I have the number of the ward, but the admin or person taking my calls is the go between and I have not been able to get a call back from a physician. I asked for email or some other way to get in touch and was told she'd leave the weekend doctor a paper note. He made his rounds 3 hours before the time I was told.

So far, the first communication has been to be here when he made his rounds yesterday.
The insistance on fluids is the key factor for saving her life right now. I am going to try to get some sleep now so I can think clearly when I go to see the dietician today. My brother's wife and kids are left out of the picture and he is working today. I'm taking this a day at a time. I have 3 meetings today with different hospital staff.

Thank you for taking such interest in helping and praying. ❤️
