My guess is that He doesn't want people delving into a realm they're not supposed to... I know some people think that when Saul went to the witch it wasn't really Samuel he talked to. But when I studied it I noticed it calls him Samuel and it doesn't really hint it wasn't him? I'm not sure.
I don't think it's a "blithe" belief. In fact, annihilation is much more tempting to believe. Who wants to believe some of their loved ones may suffer for eternity? It just comes down to honesty with the scriptures why I can't believe it.
Don't most annihilationists believe the soul sleeps until after the millennium, then are cast into the Lake of Fire where they are allegedly annihilated? As opposed to being annihilated at death?
I have known many people, Adventists in particular, that believe in annihilationism and have heard probably all their explanations. I came pretty close to believing it but couldn't get past certain passages. I had never noticed the one I quoted until someone recently pointed it out to me.
Someone shared this point with me that sealed the deal against annihilationism for me. Rev. 20:10: "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever." The beast and the...
Yeah I know it is wisdom. I usually lump Job through Song of Solomon into the "books of poetry" category. My point is that it's not so much a book to get doctrine from and there may be more figurative language there, and I'd venture to say exaggeration? Correct me if I'm wrong. I do believe it's...
I have thought about that verse but I think you have to consider that it is in Ecclesiastes, a book of poetry, and look at the context. When I look at the many of the other passages that deal with the state of the dead I can't come away with soul sleep if I honestly look at them.
This doesn't seem to be a very popular thread! Oh well.
I planted some early stuff (spinach, kale, lettuce) last week. Now the weather has been warmer and rainy so I'm hoping they'll germ soon!
I agree and don't wanna come across as condemning. My brother acually goes to a Mennonite church and one of my closest friends is a Mennonite. There are induviduals everywhere that are fakes; it's not limited to a certain group for sure. Just like there are sincere people in many groups.
