There is no New Testament command to pay tithes

Ya, me too. But thing is, there are too many self-appointed bishops out there who hold their own doctrines to be the only right one. "I am right, you are wrong! I decide what is sound doctrine!" and next fella: "No, I am right and you are wrong and I decide what is sound doctrine!" and so it...

There is no New Testament command to pay tithes

Dunno about that particular case. My general observation is that churches that do tithing are well off financially and have good margins. But here's another angle of the thing: If you do tithing as a kind of demand or must or under some kind of threat, then it might work counter effective...

There is no New Testament command to pay tithes

No and you may include the LDS Church there too. But, that was not the point. The point was that all churches that do tithing are well off financially. Got me?

The Shepherding Movement and Covering Doctrine

Correct me if I am wrong but my guess is that is primarily a problem with arminian and synergistic/charismatic circles, where basically everything is up to you and your efforts.

There is no New Testament command to pay tithes

I am not saying that wealthy churches automatically equals living churches or churches with sound doctrine, not necessarily so. However, as for the solely financial side of things, tithing have been proven being effective to catch up with financial difficulties. And I still have no reply to...

There is no New Testament command to pay tithes

All churches who practice tithing are wealthy. Those who do not often struggle financially. If tithing is "not commanded" in the NT era, it certainly seem to have some positive effect. I guess that effect is not against God's law.

I gave you a whole 'lotta scriptures there in the link, pal. It's really these you gainsay, not me or some other man. Yet for you it have to be you who makes the difference in the equation. Are you by any chance methodist?

As for the Elect, the ones who belong to Him, Jesus says: "no man is able to pluck them out of" His hand (John 10:28-29). Sleep well.

Only in and through Him, and by His power, will it be done. I think you can see that?

Was I addressing you personally at all in that post?

The "we" here are regenerate believers and their ability to repent and forsake sin comes from God, not themselves. Thought I'd clear that up. ;)

WHICH Bible "version" Is Authorized By God?

Thanks for the reply. I am unsure whether Nee actually had any formal credentials or finished courses in hebrew/aramaic or greek at all. Had quiet a few of his books once (also books of Witness Lee) and sometimes visited the LSM book café that they had in my hometown. What can I say? There are...

There's something to it. We are either God-centered or self-centered. Self-centeredness can never motivate works and obedience that pleases God.

Goes without saying in a way. I mean, if no works at all, then what is there other than a mere profession? However, and this is the important matter, a christian does not focus on his own works as for his right standing with God, he focuses on Jesus and His work. Do not put the law where only...
