You must be born "anothen" - was Jesus speaking in Greek?

Ehrman is the one who said in the video it meant "a second time". I don't see it. That's a real stretch to give it that definition. Josephus uses the word to describe Abimelech wanting to bring his friendship with Isaac back to where it was in the beginning (from the first), but not become...

You must be born "anothen" - was Jesus speaking in Greek?

Sure it could have. Nicodemus heard the word born and went off in the only direction he knew - worldly things. That's evident from Jesus' response when he admonished N. for thinking worldly things when Jesus was speaking about spiritual things - "You're a teacher of Israel and don't understand...

You must be born "anothen" - was Jesus speaking in Greek?

This doesn't make sense. Greek was the lingua franca of the day. It's more likely that non-Roman soldiers spoke Greek, and the Roman ones spoke Latin. So a centurion would only realistically need to speak two languages.

You must be born "anothen" - was Jesus speaking in Greek?

I don't see "for the second time" in ἄνωθεν. I see from the first (or top).

You must be born "anothen" - was Jesus speaking in Greek?

Every other time John used ἄνωθεν he meant from above (John 3:31; 19:11, 23).

You must be born "anothen" - was Jesus speaking in Greek?

Something that makes me think Jesus spoke Greek was when he read the prophecy of Isaiah from a scroll in Nazareth. The common people of his day (and earlier, possibly all the way back to Ezra) did not know Hebrew. For that reason targumists (interpreters) were used to translate Hebrew into...

Jesus also spoke with a Roman centurion. Very doubtful IMO that an uneducated soldier spoke Aramaic.

You must be born "anothen" - was Jesus speaking in Greek?

I don't think that ambiguity had anything to do with it. Nicodemus was carnal, so he could only see what Jesus said from an earthly perspective.

Is it biblical to attend Church every Sunday?

There weren't that many believers when there was only one church per city. One church per city in certain areas nowadays would be impossible.

While I now believe in the sinful nature again

Aorist means indefinite - no horizon. Origin Late 16th century: from Greek aoristos ‘indefinite’, from a- ‘not’ + horizein ‘define, limit’. https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/aorist https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aorist

While I now believe in the sinful nature again

That certainly has been the conclusion of some in the past, but it is untenable. The general consensus now is that it is indefinite. As an example, abolished below is in the aorist, but death has not been abolished yet. The indefinite would be Christ abolishes death, which is true. But is now...

Is that the power of Holy Spirit?

I saw something like this at my brother's church once. A visiting preacher was pushing on people's foreheads to make them lose balance and fall backwards. One fellow refused to fall and took a step back every time the preacher pushed. This went on so long that one of his helpers placed a chair...

    Could God Speak to Us?

Learn to discern the voice of GOD within you, but always take what others say they've heard with a grain of salt. No, more like a bucket of salt - unless the holy spirit witnesses to you that it is truth. And ignore people who say GOD doesn't speak to us. Jesus said the holy spirit speaks to us...

    Could God Speak to Us?

It doesn't matter what pronoun you use for the holy spirit. Evidence exists in scripture for all three uses (he, she, it).

The Biblical Truth About Hell & How Yeshua (Joshua) Became Jesus (Learn the Hebrew origin of our Lord's teaching & our "Christianity" )

While I now believe in the sinful nature again

It would probably behoove you to research the aorist tense, which is more probably indefinite rather than past/completed action. When you get time - How do you reconcile your view with Paul's when he says that those who are in the flesh cannot please GOD (e.g., Romans 8:8-9)?

BASIS FOR PURGATORY IN THE BIBLE

Some Jew marrying a Moabite certainly doesn't subsume any doctrine, but a faith that obeys grace and mercy above the letter certainly does, because that is what all doctrine points to.

BASIS FOR PURGATORY IN THE BIBLE

I agree about Maccabees. However, Ruth is far more than just an historical record. It is by far one of the most powerful, spiritually edifying messages about GOD's grace in the bible. According to the law, no Moabite was to ever enter the congregation of Israel. Yet Boaz's faith to violate the...

BASIS FOR PURGATORY IN THE BIBLE

That passage is easy to stumble over due to its peculiar and awkward wording. Some think it means what you think it means, others believe it's referring to the spirits of men who Christ proclaimed salvation to through Noah that are now imprisoned awaiting judgment.
