/watches this thread deteriorate in the typical nasty, name calling, accusatory thread that is representative of the very kinds of posts the thread is about stopping
/also watches people who complain how nasty others are bicker back and forth like children while talking down to others

It has been clearly stated, over and over, that there are no intentions of changing the standards of the site. The reason these people are here is not because the mods are unaware, but rather because the mods allow it. The standards set for the site have been determined through trial and error (this site being over 15 years old) and the admins have made it clear that this standard is the ideal standard. Don't expect things to change. I've seen many people complain over the years. I've seen large scale complaints at times. The answer is always the same 'we are not changing our standards'.
The BDF is the most active forum on the site. So i doubt they will be willing to slow down the busiest section by removing the people that help keep it busy.

I have trust issues. Let's say you're correct. Why would they allow you to say this without a warning to you?

If I get your last statement, you're saying they want them there on purpose for that purpose. Am I reading you correctly?

Assuming it is the truth, why would they warn him for speaking the truth?

No - that is not what he is saying. He is saying that - in their experience - they have found what they consider to be the best 'balance' between toleration of a certain amount of "free-spirited" argument / disagreement expressed by members in threads - and - detriment to the site due to a "swift-removal" policy that bans members who engage in said activity. ( resulting in a 'general' fear-of-being-banned that would 'stifle' site traffic ) He is not saying that they want the argumentive activity; rather, that they are willing to tolerate a certain amount of it.

1. They might not want everyone to know that fact, causing even more people to leave.

2. They are actually tolerating itall, with exception to the trolls. This could be because:
A. gotta have somebody to pay the bills. B. This is their original intention, to feel the pulse of the church & gauge their toleration. This information would be valuable to those who desire to change the church plus it shows their success rate. They ban trolls because everyone's against them, & they hurt the results data.

If I'm wrong, I will be tolerated. If I'm right, I will be banned.
:)

For those too lazy to click links

Pardon me while I vent here for a minute.

I've been a moderator and then administrator on this site now for five and a half of my six years on this site and it seems to me that in the past year or so the BDF has degraded to a low point that I've never seen before. This thread by itself is proof of how badly it has degraded when the thread completely becomes about the original poster and his motives rather that the original post not within a couple of pages, but within the very first page.

Unfortunately because CC is primarily staffed by volunteers in is an absolute impossibility to monitor every thread in every forum. I personally read just about every post in 5 forums on a daily basis and between that and dealing with a mound of reports filed daily pretty much ties up the bulk majority of every evening. Needless to say, the BDF is NOT one of the forums that I read daily since it is such a high traffic forum it is nearly impossible to keep up with.

All I can say at this point is that if this type of behavior continues this forum will end up losing a handful of users that continuously are at the center of every thread that has blown up and the short list involves persons on both sides of the non-stop law vs grace vs "hyper-grace" debate that has permeated this forum for darn near to a year.

I went into a thread I left hoping folks would be smart enough to stop posting in the BDF today.

If you don't give the guy an audience, the thread will die down.

Why oh why do people keep posting such hateful things?

So what if he calls you a liar and child of Satan.

You know your not.

Give it to God in Prayer people.
.arguing with him will not change his mind.

You are just helping everyone read his Op and question if they are saved enough.

Do you want to help him preach to the masses?

Cuz that is what you do when you engage in his threads or try and defend yourself by meeting him in his level and calling him a Pharisee.

At this point if my kids argue like this I would ground them both.

I am going to listen to some music and pray more.

As at least one other has already said, the madhouse that BDF has become in the past year is not the fault of just a couple of posters, literally dozens of persons have contributed to it over time. Sure, there are a few that are more guilty than others but that doesn't absolve the rest.

Invariably one person posts something that someone else perceives to be inflammatory and rather than just ignoring the post and moving on that person lashes back. Then the persons who happen to agree with person #1's particular doctrinal views jump on the bandwagon defending their friend (usually by lashing back at user #2) and then user #2's friends jump in lashing back at user #1's friends.

When push comes to shove, if persons would make some simple choices every time they logged into CC, the BDF could be transformed overnight.

Choose to not be easily offended.

Choose to not post in threads that have degraded to mudslinging.

Choose to debate the post, not the poster.

I could continue, but I think the point has been made.

Was the BDF ever not a "madhouse"? It's no fun getting yelled at, but when someone yells at you, they've pretty much conceded the debate.

It's always been a bit of a free for all, just that past year it has gotten exceptionally bad. It's just extremely difficult to keep it in check with the sheer volume of posts per day.

The good news would be that there is such a large volume of posts. If people didn't like it here, they'd stop coming.

I know the Mods are very busy, but just a thought on how to stop these threads that get out of hand.
Take a very close look at the one who starts the thread. Many are started by the same person/persons and it seem the intent is to cause discourse, anger, and name calling.
Maybe it is not the thread that is the problem, but the one who originated it.

Just a thought.
I see what you mean,I know sometimes when It comes to striking back,I can't resist,my bad.
Sometimes posting Is a persons way of relieving stress.
I'm just keeping It 100.
