There isn't one. Seems a pretty obvious answer. But i've observed from your posts, obvious is not your strong point.
I've been on various Christian forum sites. Mens forums are among the Least used. Typically there are about 5 threads in it. One on cars, one on sex, and a few covering spiritual matters. Usually the car and sex ones have the most responses, maybe two pages worth. And typically the last post on any thread is 6 months to a year old.
Forum areas are created based on demand. Not on individual personal preferences.
Not even one on beer?

Granted I have not been here for very long... but if I could just suggest one thing...

Can we PLEASE do better greeting new members? They have no clue, as most of us didn't, as to how this site works and the very different personalities they will encounter... most if not ALL, have good intentions, need guidance and understanding..

Beating them up on their first post for not putting it in the "right" place is a huge turn off... as are sarcastic remarks as to one's first posts... can we let them get comfortable first before ramming the rules down their throat?

Okay, that's all I had.

God bless us all...:)

I agree with you. In the same way, the people who respond to new members telling them what's right and wrong, their intentions are also good. In all honesty, I don't think they mean any harm. But I get your point. We get all sorts of new members, so it's better to be more careful with how we welcome them. You're fine. :)

Thanks! Like many threads the original intent gets lost the further we go... I know they mean no harm...:) It's all about perception as they say...:) I've come up with a little blurb I send if I catch them relatively quick on the Intro board. It's below. Maybe a Mod could adopt something to this affect?

Hi,

Welcome to Christian Chat!

As most of us when we first joined, you probably have questions, need advice, need someone just to listen or just want to connect with fellow Christians. This IS the place for all of those I assure you.

After your introduction, please take some time to roam around the site and see what people are talking about!
As you will see there are different forums for different discussions – this is to avoid confusion and to make sure YOU receive what it is you are looking for. This routinely confuses new members that are eager to get going - so please don’t stress if someone tells you that you posted in the wrong place. We have ALL done it…:) A moderator will move it for you if needed.

Feel free to ask any of us for help (seriously) ! You can do this openly through a post or by clicking on a person’s screen name on the left and sending a private message.

May Jesus bless you!

That is a great idea! Not to be negative, I doubt mods will be able to do that. For one, mods and admins rarely post in the forums with the exception of a few. So we're all like... on our own out here lol. In an ideal setting, it would be great if everyone would do that for every new member. But then again, everyone has his own way of doing things.

I would suggest you keep doing what you've started. It would be encouraging for the rest of us.

I have noticed a few members here, change their signatures with helpful links for newbies. I know for one, wwjd_kilden has a helpful signature for newbies. That was a great idea too. I wouldn't hope on getting the rest to do the same though, you know how different people are in here :) But you've learned to love us anyway. So I guess we can just trust that the newbs find their way lol! Of course, we can help out as much as we can, and threads like this that pop out every once in a while, is a good reminder. :)

Yes, Sir Launcelot, Gallahad, and I,
wait until nightfall...
then we leap out of the rabbit,
taking the French completely by surprise

Umm...on my head?
(And that's no easy task,
seeing how pointed they both are ;) )
I'll join your posse and wait in the shadows with a baseball bat to pounce on new users.....who troll....muhuhahhhaha

Firstly it is definitely not 'all' that have good intentions. There are, in fact, a lot more people on here with bad intentions than you realize.

Secondly, informing people early on of the right way to do things isn't 'beating them up'. It's giving them information that will A) make their time here easier and B) keep them from looking bad to others early on.

In the New Users forum there is a sticky thread that has a lot of visual help on how to navigate many areas of the site. In the Music forum is a sticky on how to post videos. And other sticky's scattered about.

On the more valid points you have, things won't change. There have been countless posts on the behaviors that take place on this site. Guess how effective they are? Not at all. Doesn't so much as dent the behavior that takes place here. And this thread won't either. In fact there's a high probability an argument will bust out in here.
Hey welcome so and so....by the way, you're wrong in your first post. You should do this that or the other thing. I'm important here and you're not yet and until you prove to me your intentions are in line with mine I'll have to assume that you're here for nefarious reasons. Btw...welcome and may the Lord of peace and grace bless you.

How did you first find out about this site? I found it by looking up a word in original Hebrew I didn't realize it's true meaning. And, in doing so, I found a discussion on the word. Some of it did just what I wanted -- taught me more about the word. Some of it was the unagreeable type. Some was debate. Some was horsing around. So, poof! I got a microcosmic view of CC that got me to join.

And being one of those people who just has to read the directions first, I immediately went for the Directions post -- those spiffy guideline pinned posts. Not only did I get directions for stuff I needed to get, but a reinforcement of what I already knew -- this is as it appears to be. It's a bunch of people coming for a multitude of reasons interacting on occasion. (And on other occasion, they just sermonize and assume everyone is enthralled.)

It's a Christian site, so I got as low an expectation as I could muster and then joined in. Sometimes I've learn there are higher expectations, and then sometimes I come back to "I'm too much of an optimist" and should have come up with even less expectations.

That's life, particularly on a Christian site.

Depends on your definition of new people. Many brand new leave after one post. The ones who stick around may last up to five months, and then leave. And then return. And then become one of "the old people." Or, they never return. And then there are trolls, who keep coming back like athlete's foot.

So are you saying I should not send this out? Confused...

You have to realize younger and esp. anxious people don't read directions - they want help as fast as possible.

It's like the Terms of Agreement when you install software... not too many people read through all of it...

Sarcastic people are actually more intelligent than those who aren't. And not just intelligence intelligence but emotional intelligence too. Which means they are better at receiving it. True story....scientific study. #sarcastlivesmatter#don'thatemecuzi'msmart#ican'thelpit
