You should leave the edit on forever. Or at least an hour.
5 minutes is not enough time to edit a post.

Carefully proofread before you post. Don't get in a hurry, and make sure of what you post before posting it. If you need to clarify or add something, you can make a new post for that.
There's a Christian forum that does not put a time limit on editing.
I proofread my posts.
Then I return to that thread and find typos I never made. Too late to fix what didn't require fixing.
I agree. Five minutes is long enough.
Copying a typiclsiden post and reposting it with corrections isn't helpful.
A longer editing time would be nice. Maybe not forever, but longer than 5 minutes. I'm not perfect, I'll proofread something over and over and think I've gotten it right. Then at some point after it's posted (and after the 5 minutes) I'll reread it and see some errors that I didn't catch even after I thought there were none.
This is interesting.
I almost always make typos in my posts because even when I try to proofread, my brain reads it the way I've been saying it in my head, and doesn't catch the errors.
A longer editing window would be nice, but I think it was still 5 minutes when I joined in 2009, and it's never been expanded. The request for a longer or indefinite time comes up often though.
Your post intrigued me because I've been told the reason they have the 5-minute edit here is to try to cut down on various kinds of trouble.
Unfortunately, there seem to be some people who join this site every now and then just to post shocking pictures to rile people up. Several months ago, someone posted some horrendous pictures involving children. Fortunately, RoboOp was alerted right away and they were taken down. (I just know because it was very early in the morning over here, and I just happened to be one of the few people that saw and reported it.)
We only have a few (volunteer) moderators who work within their own schedules, so they can't always catch everything right away.
The 5-minute editing time exists partially so that someone can't come in, post vulgar things and leave them up for say an hour, then edit their post or remove it, claiming they did nothing wrong, because they change or erase the proof.
This also goes for any out-of-line posts. Way back when, threads were posted automatically without approval. I remember one day one member who obviously disliked another posted a thread with the title, "(Member they disliked) is a (Child Predator.)"
I'm very curious as to whether the site you mentioned with no time limits ever has these kinds of problem, and how they deal with them?

Having dyslexia even compounds the problem. I go to great lengths to try to make my posts readable. That's' sometimes a work in progress.
I always see other things that need fixed later. Like the Scripture that I posted was wrong, but I only notice that after I can set my curser arrow on it and read it. Then I realize its's the wrong passage.
Sometimes the spell checker corrects a word to the wrong word. That's from me assuming that's it's corrected correctly, correct?
My typing has gotten sloppy in my old age. I usually spell correct a lot of words due to this.
I was a mod a long time ago, and understand the problems that go with it. As just a member, I would find old posts written by others in old topics that were ten years old and had been changed to having porn posted in them.

If people actually behaved, the admin could probably be more lenient in allowing a longer editing time.
But as a mod, I'm sure you've seen all kinds of problems that can come up.
We often have people coming here preaching heresies, then deny ever doing so when confronted. Leaving posts up permanently assures there will be a solid track record for the mods to go over.
We've even had people posting very inappropriate things, then try to change it within the 5-minute window.
But if another member quotes their original post before they can repost their edit, it captures the proof of what they originally said.
Unfortunately, some people will never behave, which makes these restrictions necessary.

I can relate to spell checker correcting words to the wrong word. It can totally change what I'm trying to say. I've had this happen often when texting and sometimes I send the text before I realize that it changed the word. Sometimes what it changes the word to can sound rather embarrassing. Very annoying.

A few months back, my brother got a text from my cousin, who is also a man. My cousin said in the text that he had to go because he had to do his hay. Farm boy. The text was self corrected to 'I have to do my hair'. lol My brother pointed that out and they both got a good laugh.

It would be nice if we had a couple of hours, but unlimited can bring other issues so it is wise that the Board has a limit. Five minutes though... is just way to short.

I have fat fingers.
Fat Finger Syndrome is definitely rampant 'round these parts...
Especially if I'm trying to type on my phone.
I'm also prone to fingernails being a little too long to just hit one button at a time!
I'm a big guy, I have far fingers myself. I'm always making mystakes.
I asked about the possibility of lengthening the editing time shortly after I joined here about 8 years ago. I was told (by several of the longtime members) that even though MANY members continue to request a longer editing time, year after year, it will never happen. IOW, the 5-minute editing window will continue to be all that we have to work with, both now and going forward.

There's only, post reply. Then if we can edit there's, cancel or save.

I'm used to typing on my laptop so I do use preview there.

It isn't an option on the Desktop setting ,if you change to that option on your phone.
A preview button does not exist here.
It would be a great option if it did.
