Lately there has been some talk about losing salvation, it can have a crippling
effect. I took a page from a simple piece of John,s book to float out there.
While i pray and ask to do some future threads on this very important subject.
this may be moved by admin. since i cant see this becoming a
discussion. but as there should be no false peace to the unbeliever, there should
be assurance to the believer.

If you're lacking assurance--if you're plagued withdoubts and have lost your joy, become useless in Christian service, empty in worship, cold in praise, passionless in prayer, and vulnerable to false teachers--whatever the problem, know there is a cure: obeying God's Word in the power of the Spirit.

Let's take the first step toward doing that by applying an ancient technique--a question-and-answer process known as a catechism--to help us think through what God's Word teaches about assurance. The Greek word katacheo means "to echo back." So echo back God's truth as you slowly and thoughtfully read the following:

Question: What is the essential duty a person has in this world? Consummating a saving relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, which is to recognize His work on the cross and His resurrection from the dead as the satisfying atonement for sin, and to walk in accordance with that relationship.

Question: Don't all members of the church have a saving relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ? No, only those who are truly saved.

Question: How can I be certain I have that saving relationship? The Lord will have done in your soul His own sovereign will--that of calling you to Himself through a work of conviction and humiliation so you will have discovered your sin and misery, and, being so seriously agitated and threatened by it, you long for the Savior.

Question: How can I know if I've made sufficient discovery and admission of my sin? By taking salvation to your heart above any other pursuit in life. It will make Christ, your Redeemer, very precious to your soul. It will make you fear sin, repent, and seek to be saved on God's terms.

Question: What's another way of discerning a saving relationship to Christ? A strong and serious affection that reaches toward Christ as He is progressively revealed to you in the gospel. Such love is the product of saving belief.

Question: Are there other marks of a relationship with Christ? You are truly saved when you have been made a whole new person, graciously changed and renewed. That is best evidenced by a desire to shun sin and pattern your life in obedience toward God's righteous demands.

Question: What if I find sin prevailing over me? Although every sin deserves eternal vengeance, if you regularly confess your sins with unhypocritical repentance and shame before God--fleeing to Christ for forgiveness for all known and unknown iniquities--He will grant you mercy and pardon because you stand in grace, and your salvation is forever secure.

Question: What if my sins are serious and repeated? Whatever they are, Jesus Christ has paid the price for them so that if you sincerely and earnestly have turned to Him in repentant faith, you will never enter into condemnation. Moreover, His gracious provision for those who believe includes power to overcome sin and live righteously.

Question: Is faith alone the requirement for salvation? Yes, it is the only basis upon which God offers peace and pardon to mankind. However, faith--if it is genuine--will not be alone in the soul, but will always be accompanied by true repentance and an eager desire to conform to God's will and way.

Question: How can I be sure I've settled my eternal destiny with the Lord? Express with your mouth to God what the Holy Spirit through Scripture has led you to believe in your heart.

Question: What are the results of a relationship with Christ? Union and communion with God here, and blessed fellowship and glory hereafter.

Question: How can I come to full assurance that I have such a relationship? By affirming the promises of God as revealed in Scripture by the internal witness of the Spirit, and by manifesting real and righteous fruit born out of love for the Person of Christ and the desire to bring Him honor and glory.
Don't continue to live with doubts about your eternal salvation. Rather, live with the blessed assurance God wants you to enjoy as His child.

Excerp from John MacArthur A Believer's Assurance: A Practical Guide to Victory over Doubt

Wrong teaching suggests that our sin does not effect our position with God however, the Bible teaches that our sin actually REFLECTS our position with God. Wrong teaching would lead us to believe that no sin can separate us from God however, scripture states that sin is the evidence of a heart that has already gone astray.

Galatians 5: 13 - 16

13 For you, brethren, were [indeed] called to freedom; only [do not let your] freedom be an incentive to your flesh and an opportunity or excuse [for selfishness], but through love you should serve one another.

14 For the whole Law [concerning human relationships] is complied with in the one precept, You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself.

15 But if you bite and devour one another [in partisan strife], be careful that you [and your whole fellowship] are not consumed by one another.

16 But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).

Ezekiel 18 speaks of the rigtheous man walking away, see verse 24.if the righteous man turns from his right living...and commits iniquity..and does that which the sinner does, can he live(paraphrasing here)..the believer is secure if he remains in his walk...what OSAS proponents push for is an easy nelievism aka what I like to call..God's got you mentality..if thats the case, sin wouldnt matter, uy etvwe know we surely cannot sin for grace to abound, and what does 1thessalonians 4:7 say? we are called not uncleanliness..but unto holiness..if Jesus said be ye holy.., why not take him at his word and believe it? The christian needs more than good theology, you had better have more than just a belief system...true religion requires faith in action...

Possible semantic error:

Our standing or position before God is on Christs merits.
Else we couldnt confess our sins and ask for grace and petitions.

Our state or relationship surely is effected by our walk.
Unconfessed sin can lead to ruin.

True believers wont listen to teachers who teach that sin is ok.
That job is left to the make-believers.

True believers wont and cant practice sin 1John 5:18
Also their conscience wouldnt let them if they wanted to.

1 corinthians 8 talks about causing a weak brother to stumble and possibly destroy him because you are inconsiderate to their weakness in faith..see verse 11...your weak brother can perish through your knowledge aka freedom..for whom.Christ died(emphasis on the for whom christ died)..that means you can possibly perish who. are in the faith...1timothy4:1, ib the kast days some wil depart from the faith..my questiin is this, how could you depart from something you never were in? it says depart, meaning leaving the faith altogether...

Do you think the devil would leave the security of the believer alone?
Do you think he would want the child of God to have peace and assurance?

You for instance come into a thread(assurance) that has nothing to do with OSAS and
start a rant. A well practiced one i might add...while a younger believer in want
of warmth may be looking for some assurance. You give worse case apostasy
as a remedy for the heart. This thread was for those who may want to examine themselves.
and see if they are in the faith, and secure.

Do you think the devil will bring Gods finest to sow his doing into the hearts of men.
Or maybe reprobates to make mockery of salvation to dishonor God and rob His
people from the blessed Hope? By living like the sinful infidels they are while teaching
truth mixed with lies. However many unregenerates teach lies, it doesnt
tell us to remove sound doctrine.

I spose thats why we call it the bible discussion forums

p.s. any reason you didnt read on some to where the unrighteous
man that turned from his ways and lived?

Your a perfect example for who can stumble a weak brother.
Noone here is teaching osas or about living a open and sinful life..
please move to a thread that has anything whatsoever to do with

I have a three page thought in my mind but Jesus said it better
and clearer in the beatitudes: Which i will claim to be a work of God,
and the process of conversion outlined.

Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to Him, 2and He began to teach them, saying:

3Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

5Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness,

for they will be filled.

7Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy.

8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God.

10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Although this shows a cause and effect..its more like a double cause that effects.
The person starts out blessed(Work of God) then gets blessed for it.(More blessing from God)
Sorta like i hear blessed going in and blessed going out.

One of the many problems with free will thinking is that noones will can will without a former cause to
give the will any information to help it decide what pleasure or desire it wants. In otherwards the natural
man cannot receive the things of God, neither can he know them.

God is the cause for a mans will to choose. Free will for the most part is a myth and philosophical or logical absurdity.
It leads to worldview thats unscriptural. And at times dishonoring to God.

Question 1 : in my opinion, to fulfil God's plan for our lives. we need to find out ourselves what they are. However, 2Timothy 2:21-22 gives us some general duties as christians.

Question 2 : the bible tells us that as long as we confess that we are sinners and believed that God has raisen Jesus from death, WE ARE SAVED. in my opinion, as long as anyone have done this, you have the saving relationship.

Question 3 : the bible tells us that God has given us His spirit (Holy Spirit) as mark of ownership on us. in my opinion, by having this Holy Spirit you can be certain that you have the saving relationship.

Question 4 : in my opinion, eventhough we've became a christian, we will still fally into SIN because Satan has not been fully 'destroyed' yet. However, what we need to do is as stated on 1John 1: 8-10-Confess our sins to the lord the very moment it happens.

Question 5: sorry, don't understand your question.

Question 6 : in my opinion, there is NO other marks of relationship with Christ OTHER THAN THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Question 7 : refer to question 4 answers.

Question 8 : confess them to the lord immediately. Let God know that you are TRULY sorry but is weak to resist the sin and ask for His deliverance.

Question 9 : the bible tells us that we are saved by FAITH through JESUS CHRIST.

Question 10 : the bile tells us that as long as we confess our sins and acknowledge that God has raisen Chrsit from death, we are saved. in my opinion, all of us be it christian or not would have to go to heaven during judgement day. Those whom God delights in, remain in heaven, those whom God despises, be thrown into fire just like SATAN and HIS COMPANIONS.

Question 11 : in my opinion, by having a relationship with Christ, we would have a) the authority to become God's children, enjoy eternal paradise with God-AFTER PASSING DURING JUDGEMENT DAY. b) forgiveness of sins-UNTIL JUDGEMENT DAY. c) Be assured that God would be our refuge and stronghold in times of trials, tribulations etc....-UNTIL JUDGEMENT DAY. There are many more, which iam lazy to type sorry.

Question 12 : refer to question 3 answers.

GOD BLESS.

A unsaved/unregenerate man has no spiritual poverty...he doesnt have a feeling
of emptyness and lack of uprightness...generally lives right for peer reasons or to get out of trouble
or gain something.

If a persons heart is in agony over sin and feels unworthy and out far from God
Understand this is a proof that you are in His hands. And being changed.

If you try and fail and cant seem to do anything right and weep over it...you need
to know you are in His hands and you will be comforted.

If you feel low and have no stature and think God sees nothing in you..understand
You are growing humble and He is working on you...be glad

If you feel stupid and havnt a clue how to live right now and it has you almost
stressed....He is openning you up to fill and teach you..so be happy

Growing takes time..but the Lord will continue His work in you and Keep you.

Blessed insurance, Jesus is mine, oh what a foretaste of (His) glory divine.

Oh, wait, that's not how the song goes...

Blessed ensurance, Jesus is mine.
OH, what a foretaste....

Oh, wait, that's not how the song goes either.

Hmmm

Blessed assurance, hmmm, how 'certain' is this word's meaning as compared to 'insurance' and endurance.'
We-eeel, let's us all have a look :)

Insurance = 1. A practice by which a company provides a guarantee of compensation for specified loss, damage, illness, or death in return for payment.

Ensured = 1. Make certain that (something) shall occur or be the case. 2. Make certain of obtaining or providing (something).

-----(%----%-----)

Now, to play fair, ensurance is a made up word, but 'ensured' is not and NOWHERE does Scripture say we are ASSURED of our blessed assurance by mere grace . Nope. No 'where.' Or, prove me wrong, love to see where..

And, that is right, abiding, 'God's ways are different than our ways and His thoughts different from our thoughts.' But, that is old testament Isaiah prophecy, and, not to disclude the OT , and, the New Testament states that the Spirit of truth shows us things , that is, those who live out a life of FAITH, walking steps of faith that He leads. :)

<< 1 Corinthians 2 >> King James Version

1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: 7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: 8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

And, here is the definition of 'assurance,' it seems well fitted put in it's own.post, abideringsquirrel :)

as·sur·ance /əˈSHoorəns/Noun: 1. A positive declaration intended to give confidence; a promise: "he gave an assurance that work would not recommence until Wednesday". 2. Confidence or certainty in one's own abilities: "she drove with assurance".

This garbage sounds just like "did God say?"

Romans 5:21, "That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord."

what part of the OP are you talking to?

How secure of salvation is this ^
"Did not say?"
read a simple verse like john 3:16 on your way out.

There are people who live to let every christian know daily if possible that you can lose your salvation.
And as Apostasy is a real threat. To leave Christ and to renounce His work and salvation ,will, forfeit your salvation.

But aside from that there also is the option as many take to say they will not be saved or claim salvation till heaven.
The logic as ive heard it is that any asurrance will lead to a life of sin and debauchary or pride and arrogance.

I can assure you that this is just bad logic, most live by faith with blessed assurance.
And say with the Word of God, "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer there in?" (Rom. 6:1-2)

The bible brings assurance:

1 John 5:13, "These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. "

God keeps you:

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." (Ephesians 2:8-10)

If, in order to be saved, you believe you have to live a faithful life and not sin to keep your salvation then you are trusting in your good work of faithful living to keep you saved. Surely every true child of God wants to live for the Lord and live a faithful life. The majority of Christians will live in varying degrees a faithful life. But their faithfulness is not keeping them saved as that is the work of God. This truth is clearly stated in 1 Peter 1:3-5 which says a believer is not kept by our good works, but by the power of God Himself:

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."

Also their conscience wouldnt let them if they wanted to.

I do not believe for one people intentionally seek to downgrade sin, I have known people who seem.to truly seek after God or desire to live for him attend one of the more grace oriented churches....secomd, how am I being a stumbling block...if I am mistaken about the subject matter simply say that sans your arrogant reply..like I saod before I truly think you have somethong against me from your prior threads like I said, im a pm away if I did something to offend you..outside of that I dunno what eksevto say except act a lil more chriatian and a smidge less arrogant, as im not out to get you.

I didnt think you were out to get "me" at all.
I think your out against an idea...a doctrine
Ive seen you in other threads...its a hobbyhorse
thats not needed here.k? no arrogance needed or given to you..

I dont know how to agree or disagree with your findings.
Im sure its true...since the very beginning of the church it has
been this way...thats why Paul wrote so much and so clearly
about folks teaching a false grace teaching that led to a false salvation,
or at least would destroy the believers life to one degree or another.

But...back at the ranch we have real grace...and a real salvation.
And assurance for our heart and a hope. From scripture
That the Lord gave us and wants us to obtain and retain.
Thats what i had in mind with the OP.
Any ideas on that?

True, most will, hmm, does 'most' mean entering through 'a narrow gate? ' I dunno, just asking. I mean, why not, let's just say most don't turn from God. Works for me. Let'em all in single file for all I care.
Just saying Scripture, squirrel, speaking the Truth, as I am led to speak :)

Speaking what truth?
I dont even understand what your saying!
You didnt speak any scripture...what are you even rambling on about?

your being "led" by what?
Whatever it is you should let go and get a grip.

Nothing may add to nor take away from the assurance of the Holy Spirit. Yahweh is so good all of the time, but everyone in Yeshua knows this already..........praise our perfect God, amen
