I came back to God in 2011 after backsliding for many years. Not long after my return several things began happening and it became evident to me that He was helping me to sort out my life, and get me on the right track.

Prior to the vision I was having problems with my father-in-law. He's strict, very old school, controlling, a devout catholic, and he interferes a lot in his sons' marriages. I was beginning to feel inferior to him, yet I really made an effort with him, welcoming him into our home for the holidays even.

At the time I had not really read much of the word, and so God chose to communicate with me through a vision, which became a very valuable lesson for me. Difficult to explain and make sense of, but I was in my home office one day when suddenly I spaced out. I wasn't sleeping, I was completely awake, but it was like God froze me in time to where nothing else existed but this vision. I don't even know how long it lasted for or how I came out of the vision either. It was literally like time had stopped.

In this vision, God showed me my FIL on his knees, looking upwards and crying out to God to have mercy on him. It was made known to me that he was in hell, even though I didn't see any flames (I was spared scary imagery) but he was on the floor and isolated in a pit, and though he was in darkness in the vision I was able to see him through like a spotlight.

God wanted me to see my father-in-law as a weak man. It really humbled me and actually made me feel sorry for him. It completely changed the way I looked at him, and I felt such peace knowing that God is in control and much more powerful than any created being. While I had previously been praying for God to humble him I learnt a big lesson myself, that I needed to be humbled!! What a twist!!

Since the vision, my relationship with my FIL has forever changed. This vision really humbled me and showed me how he's another sinner who is weak and in desperate need of God's mercy also.

Again, I hadn't read much of the word at that point, so it's amazing looking back now and seeing how this vision aligns with the scriptures.

I hope all who read this find it encouraging! Please feel free to share any scriptures that relate to this..... any on humility, God's power, etc, etc. Would love to see them :)

Do you believe that God showed you your father-in-law's certain destiny, or that God was trying to improve your relationship with him to the point that he would use you to trust Jesus ALONE for salvation, or something else?

here is a verse.

Matthew 23:12 For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
15 And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein. - Luke 18:9-17 (KJV)

Thank you for sharing your vision. I think that is something very special and to know that God loves and cares so much for you to take the time to teach you. What an amazing God we have!
:D

Being humble is something God looks for in His people, for there are many scriptures that bring forth the importance of being humble. It is one of the characteristic's He wants us to have and learn. For even Christ humbled Himself and came as a servant and was obedient to death, for our salvation.

Here are just some scriptures on being humble:

1 Peter 5:5
- Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all [of you] be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

1 Peter 5:6
- Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

James 4:6 - But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Ephesians 4:2 - With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

Proverbs 16:18 - Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Proverbs 15:1 - A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

James 4:10
- Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Colossians 3:12 - Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

Take Care and God Bless!

I believe God used the vision to humble me and change the way I looked at this whole situation. I had been looking on my father-in-law as being strong when he's actually very weak before God. The vision put things into perspective.

Someone once said that they fear God enough that they fear no man in the world or what any man might do to them.

He's not saved, he still lives in darkness and needs Jesus like everyone else. Before I was saved I was lost like him, but God had mercy on me.

In the last year I've shared some thoughts with him and I've noticed he's becoming softer. It's difficult when someone has been indoctrinated with Catholicism their whole life, they just won't let go of their religion that holds them in bondage with a false system of works. It's even more difficult for those who embrace it as part of their culture, it becomes their identity and something they do as a family, a way they all connect and come together, especially during the holidays.

Next time I see him I'll encourage him to read the word (something Catholics don't do).

This is a great lesson for all, and a true reference for any of the children of the Most High God to learn in regarding people who come into their lives wanting to run roughshod over them and intimidating. People who pactice such tactics are to be pitied, for it is true, they are very weak.

Thank you for sharing this vision. I believe it is inspired, and a good reference for anyone in a similar situation. All blessings in Yeshua, amen. (Because I am not familiar with this option in CC, I think I posted my own "blog" which will make absolutely no sense to anyone because I thought I was here replying.........)

Amen. We all, every human on Earth, are utter failures, we all brought Christ to the cross, NOT one of us is without blame, but, God took our blame, our shame, and, put it right up on that cross with His Son and He forgave us throught that 'great' act.
And your father-in-law, Kaytdid, is someone whom God has complete control of and He has already helped you see how human your father-in-law truly is, like we all are, and, just stepping back and looking at things with the eyes of faith going forward WILL make such a difference in our lives, through His work in us, His workmanship :)
Thank you for sharing this, milady, God bless you for seeing through His eyes of faith for you regarding your father-in-law, what an awesome, special decision you made, God wil use that situation mightily in the future to help others like all us on here, you have blessed me today, too, I'm dealing with a sister who can use a word like you've shown today.
Blessings, to you, and, your life, I know you've struggled in the past with things of life you've shared on c.c. and, I just keep praying that God continues to show you all who are in your life through the eyes of faith and submission to Christ and submission to he whom God has put in charge to guard and protect and cherish you in your life. Treat your father-in-law, always, with God's Love which is imbued inside you, katymilady, and, all will be good and perfect and blessed for your life and according to His will, which is really what we all want in our lives. :)
