I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen,
will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Matthew 5:18

If you grew up reading the King James Version of the Bible, you would have read the passage above with
the words "one jot or one tittle." Perhaps you learned that this was some type of punctuation mark
equivalent to our English apostrophe. The "jot" that Jesus was referring to was the Hebrew letter yod.
It is the smallest letter in the Hebrew alphabet. Just half a line long.
The Yod is often written with a small line at the top - like a little capital "L" rotated 180 deg. What we translate
as "tittle" or "stroke of a pen" is just the small curve at the top of the letter the slight embellishment on the yod.
It was called the thorn of the yod.
So what Jesus was saying was, "Not the smallest letter or even a decoration on the smallest letter will disappear."
This is actually a well-known Hebrew expression, "lo yod v'lo kotso shel yod." "It means not a yod or a thorn of a yod,"
or "not the most insignificant or unimportant thing."

A story was told by another rabbi after Jesus' time that appears to illustrate what this means:
When God gave the Torah, he said. "the king moreover must not acquire great numbers of horses for himself...
He must not take many wives, or his heart will be lead astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver
and gold" (Deuteronomy 17:16-17). But instead, King Solomon had many wives and horses, and much gold.
When that happened, the letter yod ascended to God's throne and humbly said to the Lord, "Didn't you say
that no letter should ever be abolished from the Torah? Today Solomon has abolished the word "not" from
this law, and perhaps tomorrow he will abolish the whole thing! God responded, "Solomon and a thousand
like him will pass away, but the smallest tittle will not be canceled from you."

This parable gives us some insight into Jesus' words. Solomon was living as if Deuteronomy 17 didn't have
the word "not" in it., and as if God had commanded the opposite --- that the king should acquire many wives
and as much wealth as possible! But no matter as much Solomon ignored the law. God's commands could
not be canceled.
Many people in our world today believe that we can live our lives as if God doesn't exist and that the rules are
ours to make. But this lesson tells us that the final standard by which we must live is God's Word, not our own.

From Matthew 4 verse 4 Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

for me, from God to me, I see I need God to lead over me and over everyone else as well
Since all have sinned. Not born in sin, Born to know sin, each person after Adam the first, in need of Adam the second, the only perfect flesh to ever walk this earth in flesh.
Regardless, Solomon got all Solomon got, by his not wanting any riches or to control others.
God said to Solomon I God have offered you anything and everything you could want.
And you chose wisdom to guide the people, so God gave it all to him, riches in grace, wow, woe is me, anyone else?
Wow! and he said to those two women okay, let's cut the baby in half and give half to both of you!
The true Mother spoke up nd said give the baby to her. That is sacrifice in love to people from people.
Solomon immediately knew who is who, right then and there
And Solomon built the temple, that his Dad was to build, being King David, who also sinned too, and since he repented, knew he was wrong and asked for forgiveness he was approved, by God and is called a person after Daddy's own heart. The same as I see in Luke 18:9-14 the person approved being accountable to their need, includes all people can be approved by God over self or anyone else you think? If you, we each be accountable and not a person better than others ever again, thanks
Welcome to Christian chat and thank you for the info, I appreciate this

“For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

notice after he was raised up to life he clarifies what he was saying beforehand there

“And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭24:44‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭3:18

From the law and prophets Till all be fulfilled …..

“For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:13‬ ‭

We sometimes forget that Jesus had came to fulfill the ot prophets

“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Then he says nothing will change until all is fulfilled , later he clarified that all that was written about him needed to be fulfilled .

So now after he died and rose and it was fulfilled

“But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭3:21‬

witnessed by the law and prophets and fulfilled by Christ

“For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭11:13‬ ‭

“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭6:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭7:4-6‬ ‭

the jots and tittles were the letters , the gospel is the spirit

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:63‬ ‭

This is what happened when Moses descended the Mountain with the 10 commandments of God and the people were sinning.

Exodus 32:28
The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people died.

This is what happened when Peter began preaching after the Holy Spirit came upon them at Pentacost....(Luke recorded this)

Acts 2:41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day

so, Later Paul writes to the Corinthians and explains the difference....

2Cor 3:6 who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life

The Laws of God (colloquially referred to as "the Letter" are never going to expire....they are written into the Universe itself. But unless you accept the Salvation and Grace afforded to you by Jesus you shall be condemned according to the Law of the World. Your Salvation is up to your own power and not God's. G.L.T.Y.

The righteousness of Christ is imputed to us believers

Because He kept the Law perfectly, He can look at us as if we did/are doing/will do the same.

Jesus also said (to the Jews) that unless their righteousness exceeded that of the scribes and Pharisees, they would never enter the Kingdom of Heaven. He was trying to show them (and us Gentiles by extension) that we need Him as our Savior.

cf. Matthew 5:20, John 14:6

It is done taken care of under Law by Son for us to be new in Daddy's Spirit and Truth leading us in Love and mercy to all, thanks Father and Son as Won one for us all.
1 John 2, seeing verse 27 in accordance with the new birth given each of us, to just love all over what we all have done from first birth (Not 100% loved all) and that be not love to all,
I am accountable to me, therefore thankful for the risen Son that first in the willing death for us all. First, took away sin and death for us all in reconciliation to save anyone who sincerely believes God in risen Son sees and if not yet, will by not quitting as said in Col 1, then 2 floors me, no longer under have to do, we just do, taking no credit in doing it as do, try to do under Law, now upholding law at least me
Guilt and pride are dead, doing my best to remember that daily, thanks
